Title of Invention

A ZIP FASTENER

Abstract The invention provides a zip fastener comprising a tape with a symmetrical chain having teeth meshing with one another through a slider, a pair of top stopers and a bottom stopper. The slider comprises a body with a bail and a center bridge, a puller rotatably attached to said center bridge and a flat spring member located in said body pressing said puller against said body for automatic locking of the slider.
Full Text The invention relates to a zip fastener of dual polyester coil type. This type of zip fasteners have interchangeability, high fold over strength, high abrasion resistance, high breaking strength, resilience and longer life.
Fasteners of this type, known in the art have the following disadvantages.
The sliders used are either pinlock type or autolock with cap type. The pinlock sliders have sharp pins, which sits firmly on the protective tape, for locking action. This reduces the life of the zip fastener, by damaging the chain, and also blunt the locking pin. It also injures the wearer, while in unlock position and during washing the garments. The autolock slider has a diecast cap within which a spring and lock pin are seated, which makes it bulky and protruding, thus making a mark on the garments, when it is ironed. Such autolock sliders are not having good pull strength as it is just supported by notching operation done in assembly. The bottom stopper and top stopper components in closed end zippers are having metal strip cut and folded. These components have sharp edges which can pierce fingers, while operating the zip fasteners or while washing the garments. The bottom open end components are normally of die cast type, which is heavy and their strength depends upon the notching and hence unreliable.

The zip fastener according to the invention overcome the above defects.
Thus the invention provides a zip fastener comprising a tape with a symmetrical chain having teeth meshing with one another through a slider, a pair of top stopers and a bottom stopper, said slider comprising a body with a bail and a center bridge, a puller rotatably attached to said center bridge and a flat spring member located in said body pressing said puller against said body for automatic locking of the slider.
Preferably the top stoppers and bottom stopper are parts molded in plastic. One embodiment of the bottom stopper has preferably a symmetncal "H" shape which provides good strength and good appearance. Another embodiment of the bottom stopper is an open ended type with a box and pin.
With reference to the accompanying drawings :
Figure I shows a zip fastener according to the invention.
Figure II shows a sectional view along AA in figure 1.
Figure III shows a sectional view of along BB in figure 1.

Figure IV shows a zip fastener according to the invention with an open ended bottom stopper.
The zip fastener according to the invention comprises a tape (1) with a symmetrical chain (2) having teeth meshing with one another through a slider (3). A pair of top stoppers (4, 5) and a bottom stopper (6) are provided along the chain (2).
The slider (3) comprises a body (7) with a bail (8) and a center bridge (9). A puller (10) is rotatably attached to said center bridge (9). A flat spring member (11) is located in said body (7) pressing said puller (10) against the body (7) and automatically locking the slider (3). Since the spring is seated flat on the body it reduces the overall height and bulkiness of the slider. The top stoppers (4, 5) and the bottom stopper (6) are preferably made with rectangular shape covering front and back of the teeth in the chain. The bottom stopper preferably has a symmetrical "H" shape and gets into the slider while closing. This gives improved strength and good appearance for the zip fastener. Another embodiment of the bottom stopper (6) is an open-ended type with a box (12) and pin (13) made of plastic.

I CLAIM :
1. A zip fastener comprising a tape (1) with a symmetrical chain (2) having teeth meshing with one another through a slider (3), a pair of top stoppers (4, 5) and a bottom stopper (6), said slider (3) comprising a body (7) with a bail (8) and a center bridge (9), a puller (10) rotatably attached to said center bridge (9) and a flat spring member (11) located in said body (7) pressing said puller (10) against said body for automatic locking of the slider.
2. The zip fastener as claimed in claim 1, wherein the top stoppers (4, 5) and the bottom stopper (6) are molded plastic parts.
3. The zip fastener as claimed in claim 2, wherein the bottom stopper (6) has a symmetrical H-shape.
4. The zip fastener as claimed in claim 2, wherein the bottom stopper (6) is an open ended type with a box and nin.

5.. A zip fastener, substantially as hereinabove described and illustrated with reference to the accompanying drawings.
