| Abstract | An active ternary catalyst system for dimerization of ethylene comprising a transition metal salt, an oxygenated compound and a phosphorous modifier. The molar ratios of the transition metal salt to the oxygenated compound to the phosphorous modifier are 1:2 to 1:4 and 1:0.05 to 1:1, respectively.Also a process for the preparation of the active ternary catalyst system comprising reacting the transition metal salt, oxygenated compound and phosphorus modifier at 20-40C in an inert atmosphere. Also a process for the dimerization of ethylene to 1-butene by reacting ethylene in a hydrocarbon solvent at 35-60C and at ethylene pressure of 10kg/cm to 35kg/cm in the pressure of the active ternary catalyst system. |
