Title of Invention

"A PROCESS FOR THE OXIDATION OF CYCLOHEXANE TO CYCLOHEXANOL AND CYCLOHEXANONE"

Abstract The present invention relates to a process for the oxidation of cyclohexane to cyclohexanol and cyclohexanone in the liquid phase using oxygen-containing gases in temperatures 140 - 190°C under the pressure of 0.5 to 5 MPa in the presence of a catalyst is disclosed. Said catalyst is a mixture of two compounds: (1) cobalt organic salt, preferably cobalt isooctanate or naphtenate and (2) cobalt porphyrin without any substituents in the porphyrin ring, especially tetra-phenyl-porphyrin (TPP), or containing in its rings substituents donating electrons in the porphyrin ring, especially tetra-tolyl-porphyrin (TTP), while oxidation of cyclohexane takes place at cobalt porphyrin concentration from 0.001 to 0.005 ppm. The ratio of the second component to the first component of the mixture forming the catalyst is 1 or less than 1 in terms of metal.

We claim:-
1. A process for the oxidation of cyclohexane to cyclohexanol and cyclohexanone in the liquid
phase using oxygen-containing gases in temperatures ranging between 140 - 190°C under the
pressure of 0.5 to 5 MPa in the presence of a catalyst containing cobalt porphyrin,
characterized in that clause the said catalyst is a mixture of two compounds: (1) cobalt organic
salt such as cobalt isooctanate or naphtenate and (2) cobalt porphyrin without any substituents
in the porphyrin ring, especially tetra-phenyl-porphyrin (TPP), or containing in its rings
substituents donating electrons in the porphyrin ring, especially tetra-tolyl-porphyrin (TTP),
while oxidation of cyclohexane takes place at cobalt porphyrin concentration from 0.001 to
0.005 ppm.
2. The process as claimed in claim 1 wherein the ratio of the second compound to the first
compound forming the mixture of the catalyst is 1 or less than 1 in terms of metal.
