Title of Invention

A DUAL PLATE CHECK VALVE

Abstract A dual plate check valve comprising a pair of D-shaped spring-loaded closure plates hinged on a central hinge-pin; a stop pin provided above the hinge-pin for limiting the opening of the smd plates to a predetermined value; a pair of brackets mounted on the interior of the body of the said valve, tor supporting the said plates, hinge pin and stop pin; a pair of lugs mounted on the interior of the body, above the brackets, such that the said plates, hinge-pin, stop pin and brackets constitute a single assembly enabling the same to be lifted out o^ and lowered into, the housing of the said valve, the brackets being fastenable to the lugs, whenever the said assembly is lowered into the housing, for retaining the said assembly in place, during operation of the said valve.

This invention relates to a dual plate check valve.
In the dual plate check valves known to the art, the internal parts thereof^ such as, the hinge-pin and stop pin are retained in place within the valve housing by means outside the housing, such as, screws entering the said housing from outside. These "invasive" means of retention creates problems, of which a few are given below:
Due to thermal expansion and contraction, screw joints tend to loosen,
Leakage of fluids handled by the valve is likely to take place at the screw joints on passage of time.
Corrosion is also likely to take place by reason of the foregoing occurrence.
Fugitive emission of to»ic gases, handled by the valve, can result at leakage spots.
By and large the construction of the known valve whereby the retention of components inside the valve is attempted by drilling through-holes in the valve body is not desirable.
This invention, therefore, proposes a dual plate check valve which * eliminates the above mentioned drawbacks.

The dual plate check valve, according to this invention, comprising a pair of D-shaped spring-loaded closure plates hinged on a central hinge-pin; a stop pin provided above the hinge-pin for limiting the opening of the said plates to a predetermined value; a pair of brackets mounted on the interior of the body of the said valve, for supporting the said plates, hinge pin and stop pin; a pair of lugs mounted on the interior of the body, above the brackets, such that the said plates, hinge-pin, stop pin and brackets constitute a single assembly enabling the same to be lifted out of^ and lowered into, the housing of the said valve, the brackets being fastenable to the lugs, whenever the said assembly is lowered into the housing, for retaining the said assembly in place, during operation of the said valve.
This invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings, the single Figure in which illustrates, by way of example, and not by way of limitation, one of various possible embodiments of the dual plate check valve proposed herein.
A pair of D-shaped spring-loaded closure plates 2 are hinged on a central hinge-pin 3 whereby the said plates are capable of swivelling open and close to provide one way passage of fluid therethrough. In the embodiment illustrated the spring loading is carried out by the torsion spring 5. Bearing washers 8 are provided in between the plates for smooth swivelling action. Spring bearings 9 are also provided to contain the movement of the spring. The bottom rib of the body 1 is indicated by la.

A stop pin 4 is provided above the hinge-pin 3 for for hmiting the opening of the plates 2 to a predetermined vahie.
A pair of brackets 6 are mounted on the interior of the body I of the said valve, for supporting the said plates, hinge pin and stop pin.
A pair of lugs lb are mounted on the interior of the body 1 of the valve, above the brackets 6, such that the said plates, hinge-pin, stop pin and brackets constitute a single assembly enabling the same to be lifted out of, and lowered into, the housing of the said valve,. In order to prevent fouling between the brackets and the lugs, the said assembly is first lowered into the housing to clear the brackets and lugs; and tliereajfter, the said assembly is rotated such that the brackets come under the lugs. In such position, the brackets are fastened to the lugs by any convenient means e.g. screws 7, to locate the said assembly in position, during operation of the said valve.
It will be observed that the mechanism for retaining the components of the valve in position within the valve body is entirely disposed within the body and there are no "invasive" means adopted for piercing the body of the valve for the purpose, as in the case of the known valves,
The tcra\s and expressions herein are of description, and not of limitation, since it will be appreciated that various other embodiments of the dual plate check valve are possible without departing from the ' scope and ambit of this invention.

We Claim:
1. A dual plate check valve comprising a pairof D-shaped
spring-loaded closure plates hinged on a central hinge-pin; a
stop pin provided above the hinge-pin for Umiting the opening
of the said plates to a predetermined value; a pair of brackets
mounted on the interior of the body of the said valve, for
supporting the said plates, hinge pin and stop pin; a pair of lugs
mounted on the interior of the body, above the brackets, such
that the said plates, hinge-pin, stop pin and brackets constitute
a single assembly enabling the same to be lifted out of) and
lowered into, the housing of the said valve, the brackets being
fastenable to the lugs, whenever the said assembly is lowered
into the housing, for retaining the said assembly in place,
during operation of the said valve.
2. A. dual plate check valve as claimed in Claim I wherein the
brackets are threadedly fastenable to the lugs.
3. A dual plate check valve substantially as herein described with
reference to, and as iUustrated in, the accompanying dravvings.
