Abstract	The present invention relates to a bi-directional promoter comprising a minimal promoter operably linked to a CaMV 358 promoter, wherein the minimal-promoter being: a) in opposite orientation to the CaMV 358 promoter; b) at the 3'end of the CaMV 358 promoter; and c) bearing 8EQ ill NO.1; a vector carrying the bi- directional promoter; a method to obtain a vector carrying bi-directional promoter, wherein the method comprises steps of: a) digesting pMH95 with XbaI-BamHI to release a cassette wherein hptII gene is flanked by two elements 0358 and 3583'; b) cloning the cassette as XbaI-BamHI fragment into pMH49 to obtain the plasmid pMH96; and c) cloning SpeI-Hindlll fragment excised from pMH229 into XbaI- Hindlll sites of pMH96 to obtain pMH234 vector carrying bi-directional promoter; and a method for expressing genes in plants using bi-directional promoter.
