AN IMPROVED HOLDING DEVICE WITH BRAKE ATTACHMENT TO RESTRICT AN ANTI-DIRECTIONAL MOVEMENT OF INCLINED CONVEYOR BELT

Abstract Accordingly, there is provided an improved holding device comprising a circular chuck inserted into an off side of an input shaft of the reduction gear box of the conveyor belt unit. The chuck having a plurality of holes to firmly hold a corresponding number of locking pins. The locking pins each are cylindrical in shape having a head hemispherically configured. The rear end of the pin is allowed to rest on the socket and preloaded with a screw on the chuck. The locking pins are additionally provided with a spring in the socket of the chuck such that the locking pin can play to and from perpendicular to the chuck face. The device is having a fixed plate, rigidly fixed with a fastening means to a frame fixed at the bottom. The chuck plate has a plurality of grooves. The groves are configured at different depths such that the locking pins smoothly enter the grooves. The position of the grooves on the fixed plate are located to match the position of the locking pins. The assembly of the chuck and the fixed plate in combination with the locking means together constitutes a locking device which prevents the anti direction movement of the loaded inclined elevated conveyor belt during power failure. The fixed plate has a plurality of undercuts.
Full Text 2 FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to an improved holding device with brake attachment to restrict anti-direction movement of a high-speed rotating member during sudden failure of power supply. More particularly, the present invention relates to an improved holding device with brake attachment to control anti-direction movement of a loaded inclined elevated conveyor during power failure so as to place the conveyor in a complete static condition.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
In typical steel plant, the raw material like lumps or iron ore, flux like large shape of calcium oxide and calcium carbonate, flespher, lime are generally transported by a conveyor, preferably by an elevated conveyor, from the storage bin to the furnace area. During the transportation of such raw materials through such a conveyor, if sudden power failure occurs, some practical problems generally arise for example, spillage of materials from the conveyor due to rolling, back of the raw materials from the tail end of the conveyor owing to anti-direction movement of the belt. Besides that,, snapping of the elevated conveyor belt occurs due to friction of the raw material slipping from the flat surface of the belt. The conveyor belt also gets over-strained for holding a huge load of materials, particularly during the prolonged period of shut-down. The net result is the loss of production and polluted environment. Further, when the power is restored, the rolling back of belt movement takes place and the fluid coupling and the reduction gear box of the conveyor get damaged due to high torque generation and there is every possibility of snapping the belt needed for

movement of the loaded conveyor, which is generally configured of longer size, after the pause period.
To overcome the practical adversity with regards to productivity, the prior art manufacturing plants and machineries are generally provided with an in built hold back system embodied inside the gear box which comprises a ratchet unit with ratchet pin to control and restrict the anti-direction movement of the inclined elevated belt. However, such systems start malfunctioning in course of usage within a very short period. Additionally, the replacement of the ratchet pin necessitates atleast 15 to 30 days time, resulting in loss of production apart from extra expenditure.
A further effort was made to overcome the first prior art by providing electro pneumatic parking brake. The demerits observed constitute that due to high reverse load and inertia, life of the brake shoe decreases and the sleeves of the brake shoe drum fail leading to failure of the locking arrangement.
A still further effort was made by arranging a turn buckle arrangement with a leap spring and brake shoe for development of the existing locking arrangement but such improvement fail to yield any significant result.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
It is therefore, an object of the present invention to propose an improved holding device with brake attachment which eliminates the difficulties of prior art.

Another object of the present invention is to propose an improved holding device with brake attachment which restricts the anti-direction movement of an inclined elevated loaded conveyor belt during power failure.
An yet another object of the present invention is to propose an improved holding device with brake attachment which is capable of firmly holding the inclined elevated conveyor belt during power failure so as to prevent rolling back of raw materials.
A further object of the present invention is to propose an improved holding device with brake attachment which eliminates spillage of raw materials and fluxes at tail end of an inclined elevated conveyor belt during power failure and also eliminates the wastage of spillage lime which degrades the environment.
A still further object of the present invention is to propose an improved holding device with brake attachment that substantially ensures continuous production which is turn reduces production cost.
An yet further object of the present invention is to propose an improved holding device with brake attachment which contributes in conserving natural resources including creation of an environment friendly atmosphere.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
Accordingly, there is provided an improved holding device comprising a circular chuck inserted into an off side of an input shaft of the reduction gear box of the

conveyor belt unit. The chuck having a plurality of holes to firmly hold a corresponding number of locking pins. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF A PREFERRED EMBODIMENT OF THE INVENTION
As shown in figure 4 - an improved holding unit (10, 12) assembled in the main input shaft (8) of the reduction gear box (9). As shown in figures 4, 5, 6, the holding unit (10, 12) comprises a circular chuck plate (10) and a fixed plate (12). The chuck plate (10) is embodied with a plurality of slidable locking pin (14), rigidly mounted on front end of the shift (8) of the gear box (9). The fixed plate (12) is provided with a plurality of under cut (13) rigidly fastened in the bottom base frame. The circular, chuck plate (10) rotates along an input shaft

(8) of the gear box (9). During operation period, the plurality of locking pins (14) hold its original position by means of springs (20) arranged on the locking pins (14), due to moment of inertia inside the rotating chuck (10) a first (off) face (19) and a rear end face (18). A plurality of grooves (16) is provided on the chuck plate (10). During power failure, the locking pins (14) get ejected from the chuck plate (10) to occupy their position in the grooves (16) of the chuck plate (10) and get locked (figure - 5). The holding unit locks the rotation of the shaft (8) of the gear box (9) to prevent retreating of the conveyor belt.

We Claim
1. An improved holding device for restricting an anti-directional movement of a loaded conveyor belt during sudden power failure and placing the conveyor belt in a complete static state, the conveyor belt comprising a reduction gear box (9) having an input shaft (8), and a braking means (1), the device comprising:
- a locking means (10, 12) comprising a fixed plate (12); and a
circular chuck plate (10), the circular chuck plate (10) having a first
face (19) and a rear end face (18), the rear end face (18)
configured in a cylindrical shape being rigidly mounted at an off
side end of the input shaft (8), the second face (19) adapted to
have a smooth flat configuration, the circular chuck plate (10)
having a plurality of grooves (16) for rigidly holding a
corresponding number of locking pins (14), the head (2) of each
pin (14) perpendicularly projecting from the grooves (16), the
chuck plate (10) being rotatable in registration with the rotating
speed of the input shaft (8);
- the fixed plate (12) rigidly fixed up on bottom fix frame being
spaced apart from the circular chuck plate (10), the fixed plate (12)
having a plurality of undercuts (13) with varying depths which
accommodate the locking pins (14) of the circular chuck plate (10)
thereby locking the movement of the conveyor belt.

2. The device as claimed in claim 1, wherein the locking pin (14) having a
semi-spherical head (18) being insertable into the grooves (16) of the
chuck plate (10), and wherein a spring means (20) is inserted in a socket
between the head (18) and a pre-loaded screw of the other end of the
locking pin (14) enabling the pin (14) to slide between the inside and the
outside of the chuck plate (10).
3. The device as claimed in claim 1. wherein the braking means (1) prevents
anti-direction rotation of the conveyor belt, and wherein the locking
means (10, 12) placing the loaded inclined elevated conveyor belt, in
static condition during power failure.
4. An improved holding device for restricting an anti-directional rotating
movement of a loaded conveyor belt during sudden power failure and
placing the conveyor belt in a complete static state, as substantially
described herein with reference to the accompanying drawings.
