Title of Invention

A GEAR SHIFTING DEVICE FOR AN AUTOMOTIVE TRANSMISSION SYSTEM

Abstract A gear shifting device for an automotive transmission system comprising a detent mechanism; a sector plate split into a plain sector plate connected to external gear shift cables for shifting gears and a profiled gear shift sector plate for moving the shifter rod for internal gear shifting; a closed chamber containing lubricating oil tor receiving the profiled gear shift sector plate along with the entire detent mechanism, the oil being at a predetermined level within the chamber, such that the said profiled gear shift sector plate and detent mechanism are immersed in the oil during the gear shifting operation.
Full Text

This invention relates to a gear shifting device for an automotive transmission system, more particularly, though not exclusively, for two wheeler and three wheeler transmission systems.
It is an object of this invention to reduce the friction between components of the gear shifting device in order to reduce the effort required in performing the gear shifting operation, to achieve smoother gear shifting, and, consequently, to enhance the operational life of such components.
Thus, the gear shifting device for an automotive transmission system, according to this invention, comprises a detent mechanism; a sector plate split into a plain sector plate connected to external gear shift cables for shifting gears and a profiled gear shift sector plate for moving the shifter rod for internal gear shifting; a closed chamber containing lubricating oil for receiving the profiled gear shift sector plate along with the entire detent mechanism, the oil being at a predetermined level within the chamber, such that the said profiled gear shift sector plate and detent mechanism are immersed in the oil, during the gear shifting operation.
This invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings which illustrate by way of example, and not by way of limitation, one of possible embodiments of the device proposed herein, wherein,

Fig. 1 illustrates a top view of the said embodiment and Fig.2 illustrates a front view of the said embodiment
The sector plate is split into two parts: a plain sector plate Bl and a profiled gear shift sector plate B2. The plain sector plate Bl is connected to external gear shift cables B5 for shifting gears while the profiled gear shift sector plate B2 is intended for moving the shifter rod B6 for internal gear shifting. The detent mechanism is indicated by B3.
A closed chamber B4 contains lubricating oil B7 for receiving the profiled gear shift sector plate B2 along with the entire detent mechanism B3, such that the said profiled gear shift sector plate and detent mechanism are always immersed in the oil, during operation of the said system, thereby not only resulting in the reduction of friction during gear shifting, but also in improvement in shift quality and increase in endurance life of the gear shifting components within the said chamber.
It will be appreciated from the foregoing that various other embodiments of the device proposed herein are possible without departing from the scope and ambit of this invention.

We Claim:
1. A gear shifting device for an automotive transmission system comprising a detent mechanism; a sector plate split into a plain sector plate connected to external gear shift cables for shifting gears and a profiled gear shift sector plate for moving the shifter rod for internal gear shifting; a closed chamber containing lubricating oil for receiving the profiled gear shift sector plate along with the entire detent mechanism, the oil being at a predetermined level within the chamber, such that the said profiled gear shift sector plate and detent mechanism are immersed in the oil, during the gear shifting operation.
2. A gear shifting device for an automotive transmission system substantially as herein described with reference to, and as illustrated in, the accompanying drawings.
