Abstract In the present invention there is provided a process of making powder precursors for reactive alumina by flash polycondensation technique to yield a reactive intermediate in the form of hydroxyhydrogel which on controlled heat treatment produces reactive alumina used in the manufacture of high-tech materials, which can serve various applications such as making yttrium aluminium garnet, Yttrium aluminium perovskite, Yttrium aluminnium monoclinic, Mullite, catalytic application, starting materials for various aluminius materials, abrasives.

We claim:
1. A process of making powder precursors for reactive alumina used in the manufacture of
high-tech materials, which comprises making a solution of a soluble aluminium salt in the concentration range of 0.4 to 0.85 gm/cc or saturated salution of aluminium salt using de-ionised water, pouring the aluminium salt in concentration range of 0.4 to 0.85 gm/cc or saturated solution of aluminium salt in ammonia solution solution of dilution in the range of 1:1 to 1:2 to obtain a gel like mass, ageing the said gel like mass for a period in the range of 8 to 72 hours, washing the aged gel like mass and removing soluble salts by filtering, calcining the resultant gel like mass at a temperature in the range of 300 to 750°C.
2. A process as claimed in claim 1, wherein the soluble aluminium salt is selected from
aluminium nitrate, aluminium chloride, aluminium sulphate.
3. A process as claimed in claim 1-2, wherein the preferable soluble aluminium salt is
aluminium nitrate Nona hydrate (96% phase pure).
