Full Text FIELD OF INVENTION:
i his invention ralates to an improved Coke Quenching Car.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION.
Presently, quenching of hot coke in coke quenching car is done by spraying
y ater from coke quenching tower from top only. While spraying from top, hot
C9ke at the fop gets qiranched while hot coke at the bottom is ru)t quenched
p roperty. in order to quench hot coke at the bottom also, more water is sprayed
\ cm top, which resiAs m uneven quenching of coke without havmig any control of
n oisture content in the quenched coke.
I hese problems are overcome by present invention, which provides an improved
C3ke quenchMig car havhig a bottom quenching arrangement and an outer gate
cpening arrangement, in the present invention, the bottom quenching
i-rrangemertf is for quenching hot coke from the bottom and the outer gate
cpening arrangement is provkled to retain water for a preset period for uniform
cuenching of the hot coke to ensure that the moisture content in quenched coke
it less than 4%.
!.- BJECTS OF THE INVENTION:
^ n object of this invention is to propose an improved coke quenching car.
Another object of this inventton is to propose an improved coke quenching car
>f hich leads to uniform quenching of hot coke.
F urther, object of this invention is to propose an hnproved coke quenching car
t^hich is capable to quench hot coke to contain less than 4% moisture content in
G uenched coke.

SUMMARY OF THE tNVENTiON
(According to thte invenHon there is provWed an improved coke quencWng car
comprising atleast two travel bogie means, a braice de>^ce, to control a
synchronous mo\ramenl of the atleast two travel bogie means with electric loco;
I tieast two inner gate means for discharge of the quenched coke on a wharf; a
[ neumatic arrangement for opening and closing of atleast two inner gate means;
i nd atleast two outer gate means and for operating brake device; atteast one set
of coupler and buffer on either side of the quenching car for connecting with
ilectric loco and one eiectrteal control unit for controlling movement of gates;
itteast two outer gale means capable of being pr^eumatically operated to seif-
tosition itself in an opening and/or a closing state in registration with
iredetermined sequences of the discharge of the quenched coke is provided.
And atleast one bottom quenching arrangement device disposed at an outer
}Ottom part of the travel bogie means is arranged for additionally quenching the
not coke From the bottom for a uniform quenching.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWING:

\o this invention.
Fig. 3: Shows the outer gate opening arrangement and its application according
to this inventron.
L ETAItED DESCroPT^ON WtTH REFERENCE TO DRAWINGS:
f ig. 1: mainly shows the Coke Quenching Car & its components, it consists of
\HQ nos. travel bogie means (1), a brake device (2), a pneumatic device (3), two
!lumbers gate opening means (inside) (4), two gate opening means (outer) (5),
lottom quenching arrangement (6) two coupler & birffer (7), one frame assty (8)
X one electrical control means (9).
=ig. 2: Shows the gate opening means (outer) accordkig to this invention. It
-nainty consists of guide (10), guide rotter (11) outer gate (12) & pneumatic
cylinders (13). Initially this device remains in ctosed position.
Fig. 3: Shows the bottom quenching arrangement according to this invention. It
mainly consists of water tank (15), valves (16), main headers (17) branch pipes
(18) & valves (19) in the branch pipes. Here water from tank (15) flows into the
main headers (17) and subsequently through branch pipes (18) & valves (19) to
the nozzles (20) on the liners plates installed on the floor. The piping device is
installed below the floor of coke quenching car.
After receiving hot coke from coke oven battery, coke quenching car is driven by
loco to quenching tower. Here 70% of the water required for quenching of hot
coke is fed through this arrangement in controlled manner from bottom & 30% of
water is sprayed from top at the quenching tower. During this period the outer
gate (12) remains ctosed for certain period retaining the water supplied through
the bottom quenching arrangement in the coke quenching car for quenching the
hot coke so that moisture content in the coke remains betow 4%.
(fter quenchH«9 for a preset period, the outer cfate (12) is opened slightly with the
te\p of pneumatic cylinders (13) to discharge the retained water. After
cischarging the water coke quenching car is moved by loco to the wharf where
cuenched coke is to be discharged. The outer gate (12) is lifted completely by
|:neumatic cylinder (13) through the guide (10) and guide roller (11) making room
f >r operong the inner gate (14) to discharge the coke on the wharf.
