Field of Invention
This invention in general relates to auto mobile. In particular this invention relates to any geared vehicle, in particular scooter type motor cycle. The present invention relates to an "Automatic side stand retractor for geared motorcycles".
Though the invention is primarily explained in respect of an embodiment concerning scooter type motor cycle, this invention prima-facie can be deployed in any geared vehicle
State of Art
In any two-wheeler, normally side stand is provided for parking the vehicle. In the normal circumstances the rider releases the side stand using his feet and start the vehicle for moving forward. If side stand is not released, there is every possibility of the vehicle meeting with an accident during the forward motion of the vehicle. This is overcome by providing a switch warning system. The system consists of a plunger type switch operated by the side stand, connected to the ignition switch and a bulb on the speedometer panel by electrical means. When the ignition switch is "ON" and if the side stand is not released the circuit is closed and current flows to the bulb making it glow cautioning the rider. Most of the time this caution is unnoticed by the rider especially during the daytime making it less safe. This is overcome by another known art in which, an audible piezo-ceramic beeper is used to caution the rider. When the ignition switch is ON and the side stand is in the ON position, current is drawn by the piezo-electric beeper and makes an audible sound, which can be heard by the rider. When the side stand is in the OFF position or released position no current is drawn by the beeper and no sound will be heard. In all these systems manual intervention is required.
Normally in the case of a geared vehicle such as a motorcycle, when the rider wants to drive, he should shift the gear from neutral (0th position) to 1st gear or directly to 2nd gear. To take the advantage of this compulsory action of the rider and also to remove this tedious process of remembering and relieving the side stand manually, this invention

is proposed to automatically retract the side stand as soon as the rider actuates the gear shift lever.
Many devices are already known in the art. However the known devices suffer from various drawbacks.

Detailed Description of an embodiment of Invention
The system consists of engine gearshift lever LI mounted on the shaft gearshift lever S of an engine E that is mounted on frame F. This lever L 1 can move up and down with respect to pivot PL The side stand T is mounted onto a bracket welded to the frame F. A tension spring Sg is hooked on to a floating link L4, which is pivoted at P3. On to the gearshift lever LI is link L2 that extends downward with its pivot at P2. One end of another link L3 is pivoted at P5 and extends horizontally and is wrapped round and welded onto a boss B, which is pivoted at P4. The other end of link L3 is welded with a C-shaped bracket C and is in close vicinity of the floating link L4.
When the gear shift lever LI is pressed down to shift to the first or second gear, it pushes the link L2 is downward direction. This movement of link L2 leads to rotation of link L3 with respect to pivot P4. As soon as link L3 rotates, the C-bracket C forces the floating link L4 to rotate with respect to pivot P3. This floating link L4 further pushes the side stand T, with the help of spring Sg. Finally the side stand T rotates to reach its normal "off stand condition".
The invention has been explained in relation to specific embodiment. It is inferred that the foregoing description is only illustrative of the present invention and it is not intended that the invention be limited or restrictive thereto. Many other specific embodiments of the present invention will be apparent to one skilled in the art from the foregoing disclosure. All substitution, alterations and modification of the present invention which come within the scope of the following claims are to which the present invention is readily susceptible without departing from the spirit of the invention.
The scope of the invention should therefore be determined not with reference to the above description but should be determined with reference to appended claims along with full scope of equivalents to which such claims are entitled.
