| Abstract | The present inventioll refers to a new process which converts the raw skins of animal into a paper like material. The process proposed by the invention comprises the steps of soaking, liming, re-liming, fleshing, de-liming, bating, scudding, brine wash, degreasing, pickling, bleaching, tanning, fatliquoring, bleaching and re-tanning. Here the bleaching process is done twice i.e. before and after tanning. Before the tanning process, A strong bleaching process is carried out with the sodium chlorite solution which produces chlorine dioxide solution which effective bleach the leather, subsequently the produced cWorine dioxide solution is neutralized with sodium thio sulphate (hypo). The tanning process is carried out with non yellowing aldehyde and naphthalene based syntans. After the tanning process the leather are once again taken for bleaching process and subsequently fat liquored with mineral oil and silicon based fat liquor. Then the leathers are continued to re-tanning and fixing operation. Once the chemical process is completed, the leather are pass through the sequence of mechanical operation like setting, samming, buffing, snuffing, plating and toggling till dry. Finally the produced leather resembles like a paper sheet. |
