Abstract | This invention relates to a recording and monitoring device for vehicles for recording the activities of driver and operation of vehicle. The device records the time-period during which a driver of a vehicle was drunk, the maximum and minimum speed of vehicle during the drunken state of the driver, the maximum and average speed of vehicle during its journey to the distinction distance travelled, stoppage durations, fuel consumption, load on vehicle and positioning of vehicle. The device is useful to investigate the cause of an accident met by the vehicle, preventing rash driving of vehicle, preventing drinking while driving by driver, preventing theft of fuel, unauthorized use of the vehicle by the driver to put extra load on the vehicle over and above the authorized load by the owner, unauthorized extra mileage of vehicle by the driver to unauthorized destinations, etc. |
Full Text | FIELD OF INVENTION This invention relates to a recording and monitoring device for vehicles for recording the activities of driver and operation of vehicle. The device records the time-period during which a driver of a vehicle was drunk, the maximum and minimum speed of vehicle during the drunken state of the driver, the maximum and average speed of vehicle during its journey to the distinction distance travelled, stoppage durations, fuel consumption, load on vehicle and positioning of vehicle. The device is useful to investigate the cause of an accident met by the vehicle, preventing rash driving of vehicle, preventing drinking while driving by driver, preventing theft of fuel, unauthorized use of the vehicle by the driver to put extra load on the vehicle over and above the authorized load by the owner, unauthorized extra mileage of vehicle by the driver to unauthorized designations, etc. PRIOR ART "Black-box" is an essential device on-board any aircraft in the cabin of pilot. The device records various key flight parameters of aircraft, activities of pilot of aircraft like communications with control tower etc. This device is extremely useful in investigating the cause of an aircrash of an aircraft as it provides vital information to investigating the team and thus helps them to determine as to what could be the possible cause of an aircrash of an aircraft. A similar device fitted inside the cabin of a vehicle is necessary to record the duration during which the vehicle was run in drunken state by the driver and to monitor the various parameters of a vehicle during its journey to a destination. Such a device would help in determining possible causes of an accident and in preventing drinking rash driving, unauthorized use of vehicle and fuel theft etc. U.S. Patent No. 4, 258, 421 discloses a vehicle monitoring and recording system which comprises of plurality of sensors, a data processing and recording device positioned on-board a vehicle, power supply means, a portable data link and a remote computing apparatus. A limitation of the above device is that it is used only for monitoring and recording of engine parameters. Another limitation of the above device is that the positioning of the vehicle cannot be monitored. Further limitation of the above device is that it cannot record the load status Still further limitation of the above device is that it cannot record the time-duration during which the driver was drunk while driving the vehicle. OBJECTS OF PRESENT INVENTION An object of the present invention is to provide a device, which can record the maximum and average speed attained by the vehicle at any point of time to determine any rash driving by the driver. Another object of the present invention is to provide a device, which senses the presence of alcoholic vapours in the driver's cabin and can thus detect whether driver was drunk while driving. Still another object of the present invention is to provide a device, which can record the time duration for which the driver was in drunk state and the maximum and average speed at which the vehicle was run by driver in drunk condition. Further object of the present invention is to provide a device, which can record start/ stop time of the vehicle at any time, date wise and month wise. Still further object of the present invention is to provide a device which can record the total stoppage time of the vehicle during its journey, date wise/ month wise Yet further object of the present invention is to provide a device which can sense the load on the vehicle and record load status (maximum and average toad) during the journey of the vehicle. Still further object of the device present invention is to provide a device which can monitor the positioning of the vehicle at any point of time. Yet further object of the present invention is to provide a device which can record the fuel consumption of vehicle at any point of time during the journey of a vehicle. Even further object of the present invention is to provide a device which can record all the above data on speed, load; stoppage duration's and time duration's of drinking by driver, for over a period of about 30 days. Yet further object of the present invention is to provide a device which enables downloading of recorded data in a computer at a remote base station, for scanning and investigations. Still further object of the present invention is to advice which can record the total distance travelled by the vehicle. Yet further object of the present invention is to provide a device which can monitor the positioning of the vehicle at any point of time. Still further object of the present invention is to provide a device which can record the fuel consumption of vehicle at any point of time during the journey of vehicle. Further objects and advantages of this invention will be more apparent from the ensuing description. DESCRIPTION OF FIGURE The invention will now be illustrated with a drawing, which illustrates an embodiment of the present invention and is not intended to be taken restrictively to imply any limitation on the scope of the present invention. In the accompanying drawings:- Fig. 1 shows the block diagram of the device of the present invention. STATEMENT OF INVENTION According to this invention there is provided a recording and monitoring device for vehicles for recording the activities of driver and operation of vehicle comprising:- a CPU with memory; a power supply means characterized in that the device is provided with plurality of sensors comprising of a speed/distance sensor, an alcohol sensor, a load sensor, a GPS module, and a fuel sensor; a GSM transmitter/receiver; interphase circuitry means which interphases said sensors with CPU through a signal conditioner; power supply interphase circuitry means, to distribute different voltages to different circuitry and said sensors depending upon their functional power requirements; a dedicated application specific software for CPU and for server on base station; interphase circuitry means between said GPS module and CPU; interphase circuitry means between CPU and said GSM transmitter/receiver; interphase circuitry means between said CPU and said memory. DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION WITH REFERENCE TO DRAWINGS Referring to Fig. 1, the device of the present invention comprises of plurality of sensors particularly a speed/distance sensor (1), an alcohol sensor (2), a load sensor (3), GPS module (4) and a fuel sensor (16). The speed/distance sensor (1) is installed near the axle of vehicle and senses the speed of the vehicle. It records the maximum and average speed of vehicle during its journey. This helps in preventing rash driving by the driver and helps in determining the cause in case of an accident of the vehicle. The alcohol sensor (2) is installed in the drivers'seat near the neck of the driver. It senses the presence of alcohol vapours in the cabin. The device records the time-period during which the vehicle was driven in drunk state, which helps in determining the cause of an accident. The load sensor (3) is installed at the rear side of chassis and senses the load by measuiing the movement of the chassis due to loading/unloading. The load sensor enables to determine any unauthorized extra load put by the driver over and above the authorized load put by the owner of vehicle. The fuel sensor records the consumption of fuel at any point of time and thus helps in checking the fuel theft or any unauthorized extra-mileage of the vehicle by the driver. The GPS module (4) senses the positioning of the vehicle at any point of time which helps in detecting if a vehicle is taken to unauthorized stations The said sensors are connected to CPU through signal conditioner (5) through a dedicated interphase circuitry means (11). There are also interphase circuitry means (15) between CPU and memory, interphase circuitry means (14) between CPU and GSM transmitter and interphase circuitry (13) between CPU and said GPS module. The signals from the said speed/ distance sensor, alcohol sensor load sensor and fuel sensors are fed to a CPU (6) after signal conditioner (5). The signal from GPS module (4) are also separately fed to CPU (6). The CPU processes all the signals and stores in the memorv (7). CPU is loaded with the dedicated aDDlication software developed bv the inventors, which processes all data from the sensors. The GSM transmitter (8) receives the processed data from CPU though RS 232 port. The GSM transmitter/ receiver transmits the data to a server/ a remote base station. The device is provided with power supply means comprising 12V battery and dedicated circuitry (10) which distributes power supply to the different sensors depending the power requirements of each sensor. It is to be understood that the device of the present invention is susceptible to modifications, changes, adaptations by those skilled in the art. Such variant embodiments are intended to be within the scope of the present invention which is further set forth under the claims that follow. 1 CLAIM;- 1.
