Title of Invention | A DEVICE FOR CONVERTING MAGNETIC ENERGY DIRECTLY INTO MECHANICAL ENERGY |
---|---|
Abstract | A device for converting magnetic energy directly into mechanical energy comprising at least one rotatable disc mounted on a shaft; at least one magnet of a first set fixed to the disc; a casing surrounding the disc, to which at least one other magnet of a second set is fixed, the disc being freely rotatable inside the casing, with the first and second sets of magnets being fixed such that every pole of magnets of the first set is opposite to every pole of magnets of the second set, the magnetic forces exerted between the respective poles of the magnets of the first and second set, constraining the disc to rotate inside the casing to generate mechanical energy. |
Full Text | This invention relates lo a device for converting magnetic energy directly into mechanical energy by a rotary motion. Permanent magnets furnish continuous magnetic energy and this is directly converted into mechanical energy by the device proposed herein. From the mechanical energy derived, mechanical or electrical equipment can be driven e.g. a pump or a generator. The device proposed herein is silent in operation, needs no fuel and to that extent is pollution free. Other advantages of this invention will be apparent from the following further description thereof given hereunder. The device for converting magnetic energy directly into mechanical energy comprises at least one rotatable disc mounted on a shaft; at least one magnet of a first set fixed to the disc; a casing surrounding the disc, to which at least one other magnet of a second set is fixed, the disc being freely rotatable inside the casing, with the first and second sets of magnets being fixed such that every pole of magnets of the first set is opposite to every pole of magnets of the second set, the magnetic forces exerted between the respective poles of the magnets of the first and second set, constraining the disc to rotate inside the casing to generate mechanical energy. Reference will now be made to the accompanying drawings which illustrate, by way of example, and not by way of limitation, one of possible embodiments of the device proposed herein. The embodiment will be seen to comprise at least one ro tat able disc D mounted on a shaft S. In other embodiments it is possible to have a plurality of similar discs mounted on the shaft S. At least one magnet Ml of a first set is fixed to the disc D. It is possible to have more than one magnet such as Ml fixed to the disc D. A casing C surrounds the disc D, to which at least one other magnet M2 of a second set is fixed, the disc being freely ro tat able inside the casing. It is possible to have more than one magnet M2 fixed to the casing C. The magnets Ml and M2 are fixed such that every pole of magnets of the first set is opposite to every pole of magnets of the second set. The poles of adjacent magnets Ml and M2 thus face each other. Consequently, the magnetic forces of attraction/repulsion, exerted between the respective poles of the magnets of the first and second set, constrain the disc or discs D, as the case may be, to rotate inside the casing C to generate mechanical energy. Such mechanical energy can be directly taken off the shaft S and utilised for driving equipment such as a pump; or such mechanical energy can be utilized for driving a generator for obtaining electrical output. In order to secure optimum force levels, the magnets Ml and M2 of the first and second set are provided with means for altering the angles at which either or both of them are fixed. One form such means consists of screws and slots whereby the screws can be loosened in the slots, the position of the magnets adjusted and the screws tightened one again in the slots. We Claim: l.A device for converting magnetic energy directly into mechanical energy comprising at least one rotatable disc mounted on a shaft; at least one magnet of a first set fixed to the disc; a casing surrounding the disc, to which at least one other magnet of a second set is fixed, the disc being freely rotatable inside the casing, with the first and second sets of magnets being fixed such that every pole of magnets of the first set is opposite to every pole of magnets of the second set, the magnetic forces exerted between the respective poles of the magnets of the first and second set, constraining the disc to rotate inside the casing to generate mechanical energy. 2.A device as claimed in Claim 1 wherein like poles of adjacent magnets of the first and second set fa.ce each other. 3.A device as claimed in Claim 1 wherein unlike poles of adjacent magnets of the fiurst and second set face each other. 4.A device as claimed in any one of the of the preceding Claims wherein means are provided for altering the angle at which either or both of the magnets of the first and second set are fixed. 5.A device for converting magnetic energy directly into mechanical energy substantially as herein described with reference to, and as illustrated in, the accompanying drawings.
