METHOD FOR PRODUCING OPTICAL FIBER HAVING REDUCED HYDROGEN INDUCED LOSS

Abstract A method for producing optical fiber having reduced hydrogen induced loss is provided wherein the optical fiber is treated with deuterium gas for a predetermined duration. The predetermined duration of deuterium treatment is determined based on 5 three factors, that is, a) the conentration of deuterium at which fiber is to be treated with deuterium; b) the reaction temperature at which fiber is to be treated with deuterium; and c) the pressure inside the chamnber at which fiber is to be treated with deuterium.
