CHANDRAKANT JOSHI ' AGENT FOR MAN ROLAND DRUCKMASCHINEN AG Protection equipment to guard against broken pieces of a roll bobbin at a roll changer of a printing press The invention relates to a roll changer outfitted with a protection equipment to guard against broken pieces of a residual roll bobbin for a printing press. Roll changers are known from the state of technology and are described e.g. in the EP 0436 825 or EP 1 223 134 in detail. The roll changer has a carrier arm to ensure a continuous processing of paper rolls. The carrier arm can admit at its ends one paper roll each. When a paper roll on a first carrier arm side of the roll carrier is nearly used-up, then the roll carrier swings the paper roll located on the other side of the carrier arm, so that this new paper roll can be used for the production process after a certain transition time, in which the continuous paper of the new paper roll gets pasted on to the continuous paper of the near finish used paper roll. For the now completely used-up paper roll - also known from the state of technology - on the sliding platform a new paper roll is moved towards the roll stand and thus towards the roll carrier. The area in which the sliding platform moves towards the roll stand is known hereafter as loading side. Persons, who are in the area of this loading side, are at risk due to two reasons. One reason is that the sliding platform traveling back and forth can cause injury; the other reason is that the bobbins of used-up or nearly used-up paper rolls can break. Hereafter, the diameter, which a used-up or nearly used-up paper roll has, is called critical diameter. At the high speed of rotation which a paper roll and thereby also this residual bobbin can reach, the breaking of the bobbin occurs like an explosion, during which several small and large bobbin pieces get hurled through the air. In the state of technology roll doors are provided for personnel protection against breaking of roll bobbin. The roll doors are pulled down for protection purpose on -2- the loading side. These roll doors must be either electronically controlled, so that these are operated only in the event that a paper roll reaches a critical diameter, or the roll doors are permanently closed, so that these must be removed every time when technician must work on the loading side. Starting from the above mentioned state of technology the invention is based on the task of designing a roll changer for a printing press in a way that persons especially in the area of loading side are protected with maximum possible reliability and in cost effective manner mainly during the critical times in the printing process, i.e. during times there is risk for persons working in that area. This task is resolved through the independent claim 1 of the present invention. The further dependent claims are advantageous designs of the invention. According to the present invention a roll changer is revealed, which has a roll stand. The roll stand admits on a carrying arm a roll for printing, like e.g. a paper roll. Further the roll changer has a sliding platform, which feeds the roll for processing from a loading side to the roll stand. The roll changer is outfitted according to the invention with protection equipment for capturing all broken pieces of a bursting roll bobbin. According to the invention protection equipment is provided immediately next to the roll changer, which is suitable for effectively capturing all broken pieces of a bursting residual roll bobbin, so that these do not cause injury to the persons in the area of the roll changer. The protection equipment can be built-up for example in the form of sheet metal plates at the roll stand and/or also in the form of a guard net at the sliding platform. The materials used, and forms of the protection equipment can be varied as required according to the invention, as far as only the protection equipment is built-up in a way that all possible flight paths of a broken piece of the bursting roll bobbin are blocked. -3- According to first design of the invention the protection equipment is built-up through a first capturing device, which fitted directly at the roll stand. This first capturing device can for example consist of sheet metal plates, which are arranged between all the other components of the roll stand in a manner that all possible flight paths of a broken piece of the bursting roll bobbin are blocked. In place of sheet metal plates also suitable massive or net shaped plastic parts can also be used. The first capturing device fitted directly at the roll stand thus blocks all flight paths of a broken piece. The flight paths lead directly through the other components of the roll stand. Further the first capturing device, however, can also be built-up in a manner, that flight paths for broken pieces are blocked, which run along the roll stand. Especially of advantage is a first capturing device which allows blocking of all possible flight paths of a broken piece leading away from the roll stand. To cover as far as possible all flight paths of broken pieces it is of advantage, to position initial spacious capturing devices in all directions, so that according to one design of the invention, side parts are provided that are arranged mainly vertically with respect to a rotation axis of the carrying arm, and cross parts, are arranged with their surface parallel to the rotation axis of the carrying arm. This structure allows relatively easy fitment of the first capturing device on the components of the roll stand as known from the state of technology. Especially the cross parts of the first capturing device can be fitted to a side part as known from the state of technology and to a cross traverse and/or to a carrying axis and to the cross traverse. According to another design of the invention the protection equipment has a second capturing device. This second capturing device is fitted on the sliding platform of the roll changer. Through the fitment of the second capturing device on the sliding platform it is possible to use a part of the protection equipment only when the diameter of the residual roll assumes critical proportion, i.e. only then it is to be deployed, when there is an eminent threat of bursting of residual sleeve. The sliding -4- platform is moved only then towards the roll stand, when a new roll is required, which is the case only when the roll previously in use assumes critical diameter. Thereby it is possible, to secure the area before the roll stand in a process condition, in which this is necessary. The loading area before the roll stand thus remains during rest of the time freely accessible. Further advantage of this design form is that the first capturing device, which is directly fitted on to the roll stand, can be kept relatively small and therefore it can be easily unmounted on the roll stand. The second capturing device is designed in such a way that especially all possible flight paths of a broken piece of the bursting roll bobbin are blocked, as far as these lead away from the roll stand, especially in the direction of the loading side. Dependent of the prevalent space constraints of the location, in which the roll stand is setup, the second capturing device can be suitably adjusted. That means when there are already side wall near the roll stand, it is not necessary to provide for the second capturing device before a side wall. If it is indeed necessary, to safeguard also an area near the roll stand, then the second capturing device can be arranged also in the loading direction that is side ways with respect to the sliding platform. The second capturing device, for example, can be made of a tubular frame structure with a guard net or grid spanning between the tubular frames. Herein the guard grid can be built-up as steel grid. However, theoretically also flexible or hard materials are possible, which must be selected depending on the type of broken pieces. If one can do away with a mainly elastic guard net or grid, then it is advantageous to the extent, that the kinetic energy of the broken pieces flying around can be received, so that also the tubular frame structure can be done away with. The second capturing equipment can then be made of sheet metal, or can be made even of transparent plastic, in order not to interrupt the visual contact with the roll stand. Further, it is possible to provide a residual bobbin container on the sliding platform, which is designed in a manner that it meets the functioning of the second capturing device. -5- The design of the second capturing device is to be seen in conjunction with the design and arrangement of the first capturing device, i.e. if through the first capturing device certain flight paths are not covered, then these should be covered by the second capturing device. As a result of this, it is thus possible, that all sides of the roll stand, as well as an area above the roll stand must be covered by the second capturing device. To cover the area above the roll stand, it is advantageous, to bring a tubular frame structure along with the guard net or grid near to a tubular frame structure, which is provided with a suitable guard net for sides near the roll stand. This upper second capturing device can run taper or horizontal in the direction of roll stand, so that broken pieces of bursting residual bobbin cannot leave the roll stand in upward direction. The present invention is explained below on the basis of design examples by means of enclosed drawing. The example shows: Figure 1: Side view of the sliding platform with invention based protection equipment at a first position in an area of the loading side before feeding a new roll; Figure 2: Side view of the invention based roll changer, wherein the sliding platform is below the roll changer. Figure 1 shows a sliding platform 2 with a frame 11, in which a guard net 3 is spread. The frame 11 and the guard net 3 form together the invention based second capturing device. The sliding platform 2 transports a paper roll (not represented) from the loading side 12 in loading direction towards a roll stand. On the basis of arrangement of frame structure 11 with the guard net 3 at the rear end of the sliding platform 2, the loading area 12 remains freely accessible for the technical personnel, -6- at the position shown in Figure 1 as well as at the position shown in Figure 2 on the roll stand. Figure 2 shows a roll changer 1, wherein the sliding platform described in Figure 1 is moved near to the roll stand 10, in order to feed a new paper roll to the roll stand 10. In this position the guard net 3 in the frame construction 11 blocks the way for broken pieces, which get hurled away in case of bursting residual bobbin in the direction of the loading side. This residual bobbin 6 with critical diameter is located in this design form at the lower position of the carrying arm 13, which is rotatable around the rotation axis 5 of the carrying axis 9 for the purpose of change of roll. The tubular structure 11 with guard net 3 forms together with the first capturing device a secured space 7 around the residual roll bobbin with critical diameter. The first capturing device consists of a multi-part sheet metal protection, which is fitted at other load carrying components of the roll stand. The sheet metal protection runs in spacious manner in the direction of rotation axis 5 and is fitted at the carrying axis and at the cross traverses 8 and side metal sheets 4. The side metal sheets 4 form another part of the first capturing device for capturing broken pieces with flight direction along side or mainly along side the direction of rotation axis 5.
