Title of Invention

PLUNGER TYPE INLET VALVE FOR CISTERNS

Abstract The present invention relate to a plastic plunger type inlet valve comprising - a guide stem having float sliding over the said guide stem, - said guide stem has a housing at the bottom to accommodate a plunger and a lever to actuate the said plunger, - the said lever is connected to said float through an adjustable stem for setting the desired water level in the cistern, - the said housing is connected to inlet valve body which accommodates an anti-syphon assembly to prevent back-flow of water, - a screw ring is provided to connect said body and said guide stem.
Full Text This invention relates to plunger type inlet valve for cisterns.
BACK GROUND
The existing Inlet Valves are of two types namely conventional valves with long levers and ball or Equilibrium float valves designed to function on pressure equalization principle. These suffer from the following drawbacks.
(a) The conventional Inlet valve cannot fit into narrow profile cisterns, which are now being manufactured to conserve space in the Bathrooms
(b) The conventional Inlet valves do not have the requisite flexibility to set the desired water level.
(c) The Inlet Valves malfunction if the water being used is from bore-well or contains high content of salts, minerals and impurities. Due to malfunctioning, there is continuous leakage leading to wastage of water, which has become a very precious commodity.
(d) Existing valves cannot withstand high pressure and hence are not suitable for installation in the High Rise Builders. Equilibrium float valves also cannot operate if the line pressure is very low.
To obviate the above drawbacks, we have developed a new plastic plunger type inlet valve for cistern. According to this invention, plastic plunger type inlet valve comprising:
- a guide stem having float sliding over the said guide stem,
- said guide stem has a housing at the bottom to accommodate a plunger and a lever to actuate the said plunger,
- the said lever is connected to said float through an adjustable stem for setting the desired water level in the cistern,

the said housing is connected to inlet valve body which accommodates an anti-syphon assembly to prevent back-flow of water,
a screw ring is provided to connect said body and said guide stem
The said float may be oval, rectangular, circular or triangular in shape depending upon the profile of the cistern in which it is to be used.
A locking means is provided on the said adjustable stem for setting the water level.
The invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings:
Figure 1 shows perspective view of the plunger type inlet valve for the cistern, according to this invention.
Figure 2 shows the exploded view of said plunger type inlet valve.
Figures 3, 4 & 5 show the plunger type inlet valve with circular, rectangular and triangular type floats.
Referring to the drawings (1) shows the guide stem connected to the body (6) through a screw ring (5). A float (2) slides over guide stem (1). Bottom (2.1) of said float (2) is attached to the adjustable stem (3). The said adjustable stem (3) has locking means (LM) for setting the level of water.
A lever (4) is attached to the guide stem (1) and the adjustable stem (3) for actuating the plunger (9) inside the guide stem housing (1.1), split pin (7) connects a lever (4) to guide stem (1) at one end and the other end of the lever is connected to adjustable stem (3). Cup-O-ring (8) and diaphragm (10) are fitted on plunger (9) and is accommodated in the guide stem housing (1.1). Body (6) has a nozzle (11) for flow of water. The said Body (6) is connected to guide stem housing (1.1) by screw ring (5). Anti-syphon plug (12) and anti-syphon diaphragm (13) are accommodated in lower end of the body (6) for preventing the back-flow of water. Position of float (2) on adjustable stem (3) sets the desired level of water in the cistern (not shown). Different shapes viz. circular, rectangular and triangular of float are shown in figures 3 to 5 respectively.

Wprking:
The water from the source enters through inlet valve body (6) into the cistern (not shown). When the level of water reaches the desired level, it pushes up the float (2), which in turn pulls up the lever (4). When the float (2) is at the desired water level position as set on the adjustable stem (3), the plunger (9) slides down and closes the nozzle (11) thereby blocking the entry of water. This is the closed state of the inlet valve.
When the flush system inside the cistern is operated the filled water gets discharged through the outflow valve (not shown) into the closet.
As the water level in the cistern (not shown) drops, the float (2) slides down the guide stem (1) pushing down the lever (4), which in turns lifts the plunger (9) and thereby allows the water to flow through nozzle (11) into said cistern till the set level of water.
Advantages:
The plunger type inlet valve provides an effective, trouble free means of filling water in the cistern, it will function excellently in all conditions prevailing in India viz. high rise building, water full of impurities and also low line pressures. It is simple to operate and maintain.

We claim:
1. A plastic plunger type inlet valve comprising :
- a guide stem having float sliding over the said guide stem,
- said guide stem has a housing at the bottom to accommodate a plunger and a lever to actuate the said plunger,
- the said lever is connected to said float through an adjustable stem for setting
the desired water level in the cistern,
- the said housing is connected to inlet valve body which accommodates an
anti-syphon assembly to prevent back-flow of water,
- a screw ring is provided to connect said body and said guide stem.
2. A plastic plunger type inlet valve as claimed in claim 1, wherein said float may
be oval, rectangular, circular or triangular in shape depending upon the profile
of the cistern in which it is to be used.
3. A plastic plunger type inlet valve as explained in claim 1, wherein a locking
means is provided on the said adjustable stem for setting the water level.
4. A plastic plunger type inlet valve substantially described as herein with
reference to and as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
