COMPLETE SPECIFICATION [SECTION 10; RULE 13]
"DISPENSER"
CLEAR PLASTICS LTD., AN INDIAN COMPANY INCORPORATED UNDER THE COMPANIES ACT, 1956, HAVING ITS REGISTERED OFFICE AT C- 130, SOLARIS-I, POSITE L&T GATE NO. 6, POWAI, MUMBAI-400 072, MAHARASHTRA, INDIA.
THE FOLLOWING SPECIFICATION PARTICULARLY DESCRIBES THE NATURE OF THIS INVENTION AND THE MANNER IN WHICH IT IS TO BE PERFORMED: -
1 9 SEP 2006

FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates to a dispenser. More particularly, the present invention relates to a dispenser for dispensing fine granules / powder or liquid.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Users employ multiple operations while using the existing containers for dispensing various substances including fine granules / powder or liquid. Following are few examples of the present dispensers:
Presently, known dispensers have a lid, wherein the lid is opened by either unscrewing it or pulling it up. Thereafter, the said container is tilted to dispense the contents thereof and after the required contents are dispensed, the lid is fitted thereon by screwing or press fitting.
Other known dispensers have a flip open lid to dispense the contents. Dispensers are also known with dispensing holes, which are rotated to open, thereby dispensing the contents and are again rotated back to close the holes.
Yet another form of dispenser is provided with a slider, which when pressed upwards or sideways opens the holes. To close the holes, the slider needs to be pulled down or back till the holes are blocked.
However, all the closures known in the prior art require multiple operations namely, (I) opening of the closure, (II) dispensing the contents and (III) closing of the closure.
2

Sometimes users forget to close the closure resulting into loss of the contents. The requirement of multiple operations is a drawback.
OBJECT OF THE PRESENT INVENTION
The present invention obviates the aforesaid drawback by providing a container with closures to dispense the contents in one action. As soon as the action is over, the container closes automatically.
SUMMARY OF THE PRESENT INVENTION
The present invention relates to a dispenser comprising of a container with atleast an opening, a lid to cover the said opening of the said container, the said lid having an orifice and a lever which is swingably mounted on a hinge attached to the said lid or the said container to close the said orifice on the said lid and one resilient element whose spring action keeps the said lever normally closing the said orifice/s such that on applying pressure on the said lever it swings about the said hinge to open the said orifice/s,
to dispense the contents in the said container and on releasing the said pressure the said lever automatically swings back to close the orifice. Further, the swingable movement of the said lever is arrested or locked. Still further, the assembly of the said lever, the said hinge and the said resilient element is attached to atleast a ring mounted on the neck of the said container or is; assembled with the said lid. Still further, atleast a groove is
3

provided in the vicinity ot the opening ot the said container and corresponding y atleast a rib/s are provided on the inner side of the said lid or the said ring that is mounted on the neck of the said container, thus restricting the circular movement of the said lever, which is mounted on the said lever or the said lid as the case may be.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PRESENT INVENTION
The invention will now be described with reference to the figures accompanying this complete specification, however the said figures only illustrate the invention and in no way limit the invention. In the said figures / drawings that are accompanying this complete specification the same numerals are used to denote the same parts and wherein:
Figure 1 shows the cross-sectional side view at the centerline of the container with the
closure in a closed but unlocked position.
Figure 2 shows the cross-sectional side view at the centerline of the container with the
closure in an open position.
Figure 3 shows the cross-sectional front view at the centerline of the container with
the closure in the locked position.
Figure 4 shows the top view of the container with the closure in a closed but unlocked
position.
Figure 5 shows the top view of the container with a closure in its locked position.
4

Referring to the aforesaid figures 1 to 5, the container (1) has assembled with it a lid (2) with an orifice (3) on its upper surface. On the opposite side of orifice (3) the lid (2) has two ribs (8) with holes which together with protrusions on the inner side of the lever (4) act as a hinge around which the lever (4) rotates to open / close the orifice (3). The lever (4) is thus swingably mounted on the said hinge. The lever (4) has a cover (7) to close the orifice (3). Atleast one resilient element (6) is provided in the aforesaid assembly whose spring action forces the lever (4) such that the cover (7) closes the orifics (3). The lid (2) has a flexible inbuilt plug (5) that seals the mouth of the container (T, when the lid (2) is assembled over the container (1).
Once the pressure on the lever (4) is released, the resilient element (6) brings back the lever (4) to its normal position, thus closing the orifice (3).
The resilient element (6) can be made of plastic or metal and can be moulded with the lid (2) or the ring or can be separately attached.
In a preferred embodiment of the present invention, a mechanism is provided to arrest or lock the swingable movement of the lever so as to avoid inadvertent opening of the closure.
In its locked mode the movement of the lever (4) opening the orifice (3) is arrested whereas in its unlocked mode the lever (4) can be swung around the hinge (8) to open the orifice (3).
5

In a preferable embodiment according to the present invention this is achieved as follows:
In the locked mode the lever (4) is placed in a position where its vertical inner side sits on a projection (9) on the outer surface of body of the container (1), so that the lever (4) cannot be pressed to open the orifice (3), whereas to unlock the lever (4) is rotated away from the projection (9), when it can be pressed to open the orifice (3).
In a still preferred embodiment, referring to figures 4 and 5, a groove (10) with walls on three sides and with a span equal to the amount of rotation of the lid (2) required to lock the lever (4) is provided near the neck region of the container (1). Correspondingly, a rib (11) is provided on the inner surface of the lid and starting from its bottom-most edge, such that upon assembling the lid (2) with the container (1), the rib (11) should lie inside the region of the groove (10). The two side walls of the groove (10) act as stoppers for the rib (11), which in turn, prevents the lid (2) to rotate further alter the inner surface of the lever (4) sits on the projection (9), in its locked position.
Further, to accommodate the swingable movement of the lever (4) around the hinge (8), a depression (12) may be provided on the container (1).
6

WORKING OF THE INVENTION
To dispense the contents of the container (I), one needs to press the lever (4) on that part of the lever (4) that is below the place where the resilient element (6) is in contact with the inner side of the lever (4), from the outside and keep it pressed until the dispensing is over. This pressing of the lever (4) makes it rotate about the hinge (8) that acts as fulcrum, thereby compressing the resilient element (6) and allowing the cover (7) to lift up from the orifice (3) on the lid surface. As a result of the lifting of the cover (7), the orifice (3) on the lid surface is exposed and the contents are allowed to dispense out by inverting the container (1).
After having dispensed sufficient amount of the contents, the lever (4) is released to close the orifice (3).
7

We claim:
1. A dispenser comprising of a container with an opening, a lid having atleast an orifice and a lever swingably mounted on a hinge attached to atleast the said lid or container to close the said orifice on the said lid and atleast one resilient element whose spring action keeps the said lever normally closing the said orifice/s, such that on applying pressure on the said lever it swings about the said hinge to open the said orifice/s, to dispense the contents in the said container and on releasing the pressure the said lever automatically swings back to close the said orifice.
2. A dispenser as claimed in claim 1, wherein the swingable movement of the said lever, is arrested or locked.
3. A dispenser as claimed in claim 1, wherein the assembly of the said lever, the said hinge and the said resilient element is attached to a ring mounted on the neck of the container or is assembled with the lid.
4. A dispenser as claimed in claim 3, wherein atleast a groove/s are provided in the
vicinity of the opening of said container and corresponding rib/s are provided on the
inner side of the said lid or on the said ring mounted on the neck of the said container
restricting the circular movement of the said lever, which is mounted on the said lid or
the said ring as the case may be.
8

5. A dispenser substantially as herein described with reference to the drawings accompanying this complete specification.
