Title of Invention

A FLOATING BALL BIO-FILTER

Abstract A floating ball bio-filter comprising a task accommodating layers of balls floating in the water to be treated, each ball having staggered slots with bacteria deposited in them, the bacteria being selected to react with, and degrade, the impurities in the water to be treated passing through such slots; the balls in each layer having predetermined densities less than the density of the water, enabling them to float at predetermined levels in the water.
Full Text This invention relates to a floating ball bio-filter, more particularly, though not exclusively, a floating ball bio-filter for use in sewage water treatment plants.
In sewage water treatment plants a stage is reached wheri, particularly, after clarification of the water, at the primary stage, the water is required to be further treated in the course of purification. An object of this invention is to propose a floating ball bio-Cilter which achieves this object. It is also an object of this invention to propose a floating ball bio-filter which is compact and efficient, so that it is space saving and highly result oriented.
The floating ball bio-filter, according to this invention, comprises at least one chamber accommodating layers of balls floating in the water to be treated, each ball having staggered slots with bacteria deposited in them, the bacteria being selected to react with, and degrade, the impurities in the water to be treated passing through such slots; the balls in each layer having predetermined densities less than the density of the water, enabling them to float at predetermined levels in the water.
This invention will how be described with reference to the accompanying drawings which illustrate, by way of example, and not by way of limitation, one of possible embodiments of the bioreactor proposed herein
Fig. 1 illustrating a separate view of a ball
Fig. 2illustrating three of such balls
And Fig. 3 illustrating layers of such balls floating in the water to be treated.

A chamber C accommodates two layers L L of balls B floating in the water to be treated, each ball having slots S with bacteria deposited in them, the bacteria is selected to react with, and degrade, the impurities in the Water to be treated passing (in the direction of the arrows A) through such slots.
The balls B in each layer have predetermined densities less than the density of the water, enabling them to float at predetermined levels in the water.
The water to be treated passing in the upward direction, thus gets thoroughly clarified/filtered during its upward journey through the slots in the balls by interaction with the bacteria in the slots which degrade the impurities in the water and also by passing through the staggered slots in the balls. The balls are preferably made of plastic.
The impurities degraded and physically filtered collect at the bottom of the
ch further processing, if necessary.
It will be appreciated that various other embodiments of this invention are possible without departing from the scope and ambit of this invention.

We Claim:
1. A floating ball bio-filter comprising a task accommodating layers of
balls floating in the water to be treated, each ball having staggered slots
with bacteria deposited in them, the bacteria being selected to react with, and
degrade, the impurities in the water to be treated passing through such slots;
the balls in each layer having predetermined densities less than the density
of the water, enabling them to float at predetermined levels in the water.
2. A bio-filter as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the balls are made of plastic.
3. A floating ball bio-filter substantially as herein described with reference
to, and as illustrated in, the accompanying drawings.
