| Abstract | A communication system for providing call connections to customer premises telephone devices from plural connecting telephone devices, the communication system comprising: a gateway for processing calls to and from a public switched telephone network; at least one gatekeeper including an address table for processing the calls between the customer premise telephone devices and the gateway, wherein the gatekeeper routes calls to the gateway by accessing an address table for a corresponding address of the gateway; and a point-of-presence entity programmed to provide and control a simultaneous connection between the customer premises telephone device and at least two of the connecting telephone devices, the entity being programmed to control the at east one gatekeeper to transmit multiplexed voice data packets from the connecting telephone devices to the customer premises device. |
