Title of Invention

"A SEWING MACHINE TABLE TOP."

Abstract A sewing machine tabletop comprising: a rectangular plastic piece (1) having a top and a bottom surface, said piece having a housing (2) of a shape corresponding to the shape of the base of the sewing machine to be fitted therein, characterized in that the bottom surface of said top having ribs (3) to reinforce the upper surface of the table and having plastic blocks (5) of at least 15 mm thickness for placing said tabletop on a stand to withhold the weight of the sewing machine.
Full Text The present invention relates to a sewing machine table top.
BACKGROUND:
With the depletion of the forest cover which has now become an international concern, there was always a need to look for alternative source for timber.
All, in view of the order of Supreme Court for closure of all Plywood factories and ban on the cutting of trees to save the environment, the crisis of timber started.
Sewing machine tabletop made from timber is known for decades. Other than the environmental problem associated with the use of wood for manufacturing the table tops, the other problem was that in the long run said table would be vulnerable to wood termites and cracks. Also, another problem associated with the use of timber for the manufacture of tabletop was the table was prone to scaling and additionally manual labor was necessary for polishing the same. Also, a laminate would be required to the finished product.
hi view of the above there was the need of the hour to look for an alternate material for manufacturing the table top which being environment friendly would also be able to withstand the weight of the sewing machine.
One such material was plastic. The problem associated with plastic was that it could not withstand the weight of the sewing machine.
The object of the present invention is to overcome the above mentioned disadvantages. Yet another object of the present invention is to provide an alternative material to timber which can withstand the weight of the sewing machine.

Accordingly the preset invention provides a sewing machine tabletop comprising:
a rectangular plastic piece (1) having a top and a bottom surface, said piece having a housing (2) of a shape corresponding to the shape of the base of the sewing machine to be fitted therein,
characterized in that the bottom surface of said top having ribs (3) to reinforce the upper surface of the table and having plastic blocks (5) of at least 15 mm thickness for placing said tabletop on a stand to withhold the weight of the sewing machine.
The plastic surface f the sewing machine tabletop has a thickness f 3-5 mm.
The plastic is made from ABS and polycarbonate in the ratio of 9:1. The said block is a square block of 18mm thickness.
The ribs on the bottom surface of the plastic top have a thickness of 2-20 mm and the ribs connecting the plastic blocks is of 18mm thickness.
The present invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawing:
Figure 1 illustrates the top surface of the sewing machine tabletop. Figure 2 illustrates the bottom surface of the sewing machine tabletop.
1. Figure 1 shows the top surface of the sewing machine tabletop (1) having a housing (2). In figure 2, the bottom surface of the tabletop is shown. The bottom surface of the tabletop has an intricate network of ribs (3). Blocks (5) are provided for placing said table top on a stand to withhold the weight of the sewing machine and thereby prevent the bending of the table. The ribs (4) connecting the four blocks are of 18mm thickness.

I claim:
1. A sewing machine tabletop comprising:
a rectangular plastic piece (1) having a top and a bottom surface, said piece having a housing (2) of a shape corresponding to the shape of the base of the sewing machine to be fitted therein,
characterized in that the bottom surface of said top having ribs (3) to reinforce the upper surface of the table and having plastic blocks (5) of at least 15 mm thickness for placing said tabletop on a stand to withhold the weight of the sewing machine.
2. A sewing machine tabletop as claimed in claim 1 wherein said plastic
surface has thickness of 3-5 mm.
3. A sewing machine tabletop as claimed in claim 1 wherein said plastic
is made from Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene and polycarbonate in
the ratio of 9:1.
4. A sewing machine tabletop as claimed in claim 1 wherein said block
is a square block of 18mm thickness.
5. A sewing machine tabletop as claimed in claim 1 wherein said ribs
have a thickness of 2-20 mm.
6. A sewing machine tabletop as claimed in claim 1 wherein said ribs
connecting the plastic block is of 18mm thickness.
7. A sewing machine tabletop substantially as herein descried as
illustrated and with reference to the accompanying drawings.
