Title of Invention

"A NOVEL CIGARETTE HOLDER"

Abstract A novel cigarette holder comprising a connecting member having a mouth end and a receiving end, and a cylindrical insert fitted co-axially within said connecting member, one end of said insert having 2 side productions with snugly fit into the connecting member each said projection having at least one venturi of diameter varying from 0.1 mm to 0.9mm.
Full Text The present invention relates to a cigarette holder and, more particularly, to a cigarette holder that can be used for both filter and non-filter (plain) cigarettes.
Background
One of the most important types of apparatus for smoking a cigarette is a holder. A cigarette holder is used to remove or to reduce nicotine or tars from tobacco smoke.
It has long been known that nicotine and tars in tobacco smoke have an adverse effect on the health of smokers. Due to the increasing concern in the recent years about the harmful effects of cigarette smoking, cigarette have been provided with filter tips in an attempt to filter out ingredients present in tobacco smoke.
As a result, numerous cigarette filters have been designed in an attempt to provide an economical and efficient means to filter out ingredients present in tobacco smoke. Most of these devices, however, do not provide an economical and efficient solution to this problem.
A conventional cigarette holder comprises a forward cigarette receiving member and a rearward mouthpiece member, the members constructed to form a central cavity adapted to receive a cylindrical filter cartridge.
Some cigarette holders have been designed for exchange filtering material or filter cartridge. However, these cigarette holders presently available in the
market can be used only for the filter-tipped cigarettes; and therefore their usage is restricted only to filtered cigarettes.
The cigarette holders currently available are not sufficient for filtering nicotine or tars in tobacco smoke even in a filtered cigarette. The filtering of harmful substances in the cigarette smoke is done by a number of methods the main being filtration using honeycomb filter or micro-porous membranes, the adsorption method using silica gel, carbon and adsorbent liquids such as water.
Another method of filtering is by changing the velocity of gases.
OBJECT OF THE INVENTION
The object of the present invention is to provide a cigarette holder wherein the apparatus filters the cigarette smoke by changing the velocity of gases by using venturies of unique size and holes. The present invention can be used for both filter and non-filter cigarettes and is more efficient in the filtering of nicotine and tar from the cigarette smoke.
A further object of the invention is to provide a cigarette holder that is economically friendly to the consumers and is functionally efficient for 12 to 13 cigarettes. Another advantageous feature of this invention is that this is recyclable and of reusable nature.
Yet another object of the invention is to provide a new effective apparatus, which is more compact and effective in filtering toxic material than prior art cigarette holders.
It is still a further object of the invention to provide a cigarette holder with a shorter length.
To achieve the above objectives, the present invention relates a cigarette holder comprising
- a connecting member having a mouth end and a receiving end, and
- a cylindrical insert fitted co-axially within said connecting member,
one end of said insert having 2 side projections which snugly fit into
the connecting member each said projection having at least one
venturi of diameter varying from 0.1 mm to 0.9 mm.
The said claimed cigarette holder preferably comprises of 6 venturies for optimal effect. However, the number of venturies may vary from 2 to 8. The preferable diameter of the venturies on the insert is 0.6 mm while the draft angle of each venturi is about 2°.
The material for said cigarette holder is made of plastic.
The cigarette is fitted co-axially to the holder. When the smoke of a lit cigarette is inhaled at the mouth-end the main stream smoke is channeled in to holder chamber where smoke gets concentrated and only the lighter gases are allowed to pass through the specially designed venturies.
The practical advantages of the present invention are :
• Specially designed venturies allow smoking with effective filtration of plain non - filter as well as filter cigarettes. One of these cigarette holders can be used to smoke 12 to 20 cigarettes.
• Since there are no chemicals and crystal, there is no change of
flavour
• The teeth and lips remain fresh and natural.
• The invention is recyclable. It can be reused by washing in a
solution of Sodium bicarbonate in hot water.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS :
FIG. 1 is a longitudinal cross-sectional of a cigarette holder of the present invention showing the cigarette holder (1), connecting member (2), the insert (3) fitted into the central cavity and the venturies (4);
FIG. 2 is a longitudinal cross-sectional view of the cigarette holder according to the embodiment of FIG. 1;FIG. 3 is a cross-sectional view taken on line showing the venturies (4) on the insert (3);
FIG. 4 is a longitudinal cross-sectional view of a venturi showing the draft angle at 2 degree and the radius of the hole at 0.6 ± 0.1. It is understood that the foregoing disclosure is given by way of illustrative example only, rather than by way of limitation, and that without departing from the invention, the details may be varied within the scope of the appended claims.
Evaluation Test:
A smoke evaluation test was carried out using the invention. The parameters used were:
Plastic filter specs: 1. Transparent color 0.6 mm diameter hole with 2 holes of insert
No. of plastic filters tested : 3 numbers each
Cigarettes used for test: were 59mm in length smoked after equilibration at 22 degrees C in 60 ± 2% RH Test Parameters: 1. Pressure drop 2. Smoke test
a. Total Paniculate Matter (TPM)
b. Nicotine
c. Water in TPM
d. TAR
e. PUFF
