| Abstract | The present invention provides a replaceable cutting insert (20) for use in a cutting tool (56,58,60). The cutting insert (20) has a recess (32) with flat and non-coplanar side surfaces (26) on either side of the recess (32). The cutting insert (20) is retained in an insert pocket (62) of the cutting tool (56,58,60) by three-point contact between contact edges of the pocket (62) and points (P1,P2) on the side edges of the recesses (32) on two adjacent side surfaces (26) of the insert (20). |
