Title of Invention

"AN ELECTRO-HYDRAULIC GRAB FOR A CANE UNLOADER"

Abstract This invention relates to an electro hydraulic grab for use with a cane unloader. The grab has a fixed unit having a plurality of fingers pivotally secured therewith on either sides thereof. A sliding unit supported on the sliding rods is connected with said fingers pivotally such that to close the grab upon moving the sliding unit downwardly by means of a rop drum provided above the sliding unit. According to the invention the hydraulic means is provided between said fixed unit and sliding unit such that to open the grab as and when required.
Full Text This invention relates to an electro
hydraulic grab for a cane unloader,,
The electric grab tor use with a cane unloader is as such known in the art. The grab comprises a fixed unit having a plurality of fingers secured therewith pivatally on either sides. A sliding unit. slidably supported an the sliding rod is connected to such fingers through the connecting arms. Sliding rods are secured on either ends of said fixed unit Separate rope drums having driving means connected therewith are provided to close and open the grab respectively.
There are disadvantages associated with the grab assembly as such known in the art. One of the main disadvantage is that separate rope drums provided with the driving means are provided for opening as well as closing the grab and consume more electric energy.
Another disadvantage is that the grab assembly is costly and the maintenance is very high.
Therefore this main object, of this invention is to propose an electrohydraulic grab tor a cane unloader and which obviates the disadvantages associated with the priorart,.
Another object of this invention is to propose an electro-hydraulic, grab wherein only one rope
drum having a driving motor connected therewith is provided for closing the grab and therefore consume less energy than the conventional grab.
Yet another object of this invention is to propose an electro hydraulic grab whose cost is less than the conventioonal grab and the maintenance is very low.
According to this invention there is provided An electro hydraulic grab for a cane unloader comprising a fixed unit having a plurality of fingers pivotally secured therewith on either sides thereof, a sliding unit supported on the sliding rods being connected with said fingers pivotally characterized in that a rope drum provided above the sliding unit and hydraulic means such as hydraulic power pack being provided between said fixed unit and sliding unit.
Specifically according to this invention the hydraulic means comprises dyraulic power cylinders provided between the fixed and sliding unit such to open the grab as and when required.
An electro-hydraulic grab according to a preferred embodiment of
this invention is herein
described and illustrated in the accompanying drawings
wherein; —
Fig.1 shows elevational view of the canventional grab
assembl y , and
Fig, 2 shows front view of the grab assembly proposed by
Referring to the drawings particularly Fig.! a grata assembly comprises a fixed unit i. having a plurality of fingers 2 secure therewith pivotally on either sides thereof, by means of brackets 3 secured with the fixed unit 1. A sliding unit 4 is si1dably supported on the sliding rods 5 secured at either ends of the fixed unit 1. Connecting arms. 6 art provided between the sliding units 4 and fingers 2 for closing and opening the grab upon moving the sliding unit downwardly and upwardly respectively A rape drum 7 having a motor 8 connected therewith through a, reduction gear 9 is connected with the sliding unit by means at rope 10 for closing the grab. Similarly another rope drum 3. i having a motor 12 connected therewith through & reduction gear 13 is connected with said sliding unit through a cannecting rope 14 for opening the grab as and when required by the user These features of the
grab assembly are as such known in the art and do not constitute the inventive features of this invention,,
Specifically and as shown in Fig. 2 hydraulic means comprising hydraulic; power pack .1.5 with hydraulic, cylinders 16 are provided between the fixed unit 3. and sliding unit 4 for opening the grab during the operation of the device. Further a single rope drum 17 having a motor 18 connected therewith through a reduction year 19 is connected with the sliding unit, by means of rope 20 for closing the grab.
Thus it is seen that, by providing hydraulic means as mentioned hereinabove for opening the grab, the additional rop drum with the motor is not required for opening operation of the grab during the operation of the cane unloader. And thus a lot. of electric energy is saved,, Further maintenance of the grab proposed by the present invention is very low.

I CLAIM;
1. An electro hydraulic grab for a cane unloader comprising a fixed
unit having a plurality of fingers pivotally secured therewith on
either sides thereof, a sliding unit supported on the sliding rods
being connected with said fingers pivotally characterized in that a
rope drum provided above the sliding unit and hydraulic means
provided between said fixed
unit and sliding unit.
2. An electro hydraulic grab as claimed in claim 1 wherein said
hydraulic means comprises hydraulic power pack having hydraulic
cylinders provided between said fixed unit and slidable unit.
3. An electro hydraulic grab for a cane unloader substantially as herein
described and illustrated.
