Title of Invention | BATTERY CLAMPING BY A PLASTIC FASTENER |
---|---|
Abstract | The plastic fastener has been designed to hold the battery very firmly in the movement and to eliminate the need of a metallic battery bridle and also a screw to fasten the bridle. The normal metallic bridle is a pressed component produced by progressive /compound die-set and then gold plated for better electrical conductivity as it also acts as a positive contact. The new plastic fastener is produced by injection moulding process and needs no secondary operation. Hence it saves cost and the process time. Also this enables easy removal and replacement of battery. However positive contact is ensured between positive can of battery and the main plate which acts as a positive terminal by the side pressure exerted by the plastic fastener. Polyacetol material is found suitable for the battery fastener after several trials for repeatability, ability to withstand extreme temperatures and for better moulding capabilities. |
Full Text | BATTERY CLAMPING BY A PLASTIC FASTENER Background : Generally battery is fastened to the main plate by a metallic gold plated bridle and a screw. Bridie being a metallic component, is processed by a compound or progressive die-set and also acts as a positive terminal for the battery Summary of the Invention / development Refer Figure (i) for Plan view Figure (ii) for Sectional view Extensive study / trials resulted in a plastic fastener (3) to hold the battery (1) firmly in the movement. This development eliminates a metallic component, a screw and a tapping operation in the main plate (2). Thus saving in cost / process time. Also replacement of the battery is very simple. Main plate is also made as positive terminal alongwith the battery by having electrical contact through a Plated Through Hole (PTH) in the ECB (4) Polyacetol Material has been considered for the plastic fastener after conducting various trails / tests such as elasticity, compressibility, temperature cycles to ensure repeatability of the battery holding with the main plate. This material is having better shrinkage, flow properties for moulding the component. Plastic fastener is provided with entry chamfer to ensure no scraping of material on the main plate & easy assembly of battery. We claim: 1. The clamping of battery to the movement is by means of a plastic fastener in place of metal battery bridle 2. According to claim 1, the battery is held in its position by means of a plastic fastener with 3 -- 5 Kg pull of force. 3. The plastic fastener is of materia! polyacetol and has elastic property to hold the battery in its housing. 4. According to claim 2, battery is firmly held with a plastic fastener instead of conventional metal battery bridle with screw thereby ensuring electrical contact of battery with mainplate, 5. According to claim 3, due to the usage of plastic fastener the reliability of the battery holding is maintained. 6. According to claim 5, the battery is held in its position by battery fastener and a force of 3 - 5 kg is required to remove the battery 7. This new invention holds the battery always in its home position. 8. According to claim 6, a plated through hole (PTH) is provided in the electronic circuit board to have electrical contact from the mainplate to the integrated circuit (IC) chip. |
