DRAFTING DEVICE FOR A SPINNING MACHINE

Abstract Drafting device for a spinning machine comprising a pneumatically loaded top roller bearing and load arm (15) attached to a carrier barrier (11) of the spinning machine by means of a support (12), is characterized in that the carrier bar (11) has a hollow interior for conducting compressed air therethrough, and a rotary slide valve (14) is provided in the top roller bearing and load arm (15), the rotary slide valve (14), depending on its position, connecting or disconnecting a compressed air channel (20) provided in the top roller bearing and load arm to or from the carrier bar (11).
Full Text The present invention relates to a drafting device for a spinning machine with a pneumatically loaded top roller bearing and load arm, attached to the machine"s carrier bar with its support.
In these drafting devices, the withdrawal top roller and the withdrawal bottom roller are generally pressed onto each other pneumatically. For this purpose, a compressed-air supply is necessary. The required compressed air is fed from the spinning machine"s central compressed-air supply to a pneumatic cylinder coming through a supply line attached to the top roller bearing and load arm. This supply line runs outside the load arm partially unprotected. It is therefore, subjected to the hazard of becoming damaged, which may lead to undesired operational malfunctions.
The present invention has the task of improving a drafting device of the kind mentioned at the outset, to the extent that the danger of the supply line being damaged is avoided.
Co-pending Indian Patent Application No. 481/CAL/99 relates to a carrier bar of a spinning machine with pneumatically loaded top roller bearing and load arms attached to the carrier bar by means of supports characterized by the carrier bar being formed by polygonal pipe pieces conducting compressed air and attached to the machine. The polygonal pipe pieces are each provided with closure elements at their ends, whereby a connecting pipe piece can be inserted into the front openings of the closure elements of two adjacent polygonal pipe pieces.
The present invention provides a drafting device for a spinning machine comprising a pneumatically loaded top roller bearing and load arm attached to a carrier barrier of said spinning machine by means of a support, characterized in that said carrier bar has a hollow interior for conducting compressed air therethrough, and a rotary slide valve is provided in said top roller bearing and load arm, said rotary slide valve, depending on its position, connecting or disconnecting a compressed air channel provided in said top roller bearing and load arm to or from said carrier bar.
This invention provides a drafting device of the kind mentioned at the outset, in which the carrier bar is hollow on the inside, serving as a means for conducting compressed-air therethrough, and a rotary slide valve is attached to the top roller bearing and load arm. Depending on its rotary position, this rotary slide valve connects or disconnects a compressed-air channel of the top roller bearing and load arm with the carrier bar conducting compressed-air. The rotary slide valve that is located completely inside the bearing arm enables to dispense with the vulnerable supply line. This makes spinning machines even more operationally safe. With the carrier bar being designed as central compressed-air supply, the tube line used hitherto can be dispensed with.
The rotary slide valve can adopt its closing position when the top . roller bearing and load arm is opened and adopt its flowing position when the top roller bearing and load arm is closed. In this way, the supply lines can be automatically vented with the carrier swung up and compressed air can be supplied to the top rollers with the carrier swung down.
To reliably prevent compressed-air leaks, the interfaces of the rotary slide valve to the connecting compressed-air channels can each be provided with seals.
In order to be able to immediately detect compressed-air leaks in the drafting device, a leak display can be integrated between the carrier bar and the rotary slide valve.
The carrier bar can be designed as a polygonal pipe for reasons of cost and to provide a simple sealing transition between the carrier bar and leak display.
An example of execution of a drafting device designed as per invention is shown in the accompanying drawing and described below in detail.
The single figure shows a drafting device 10 with a carrier bar 11, support 12, leak display 13, rotary slide valve 14, and a top roller bearing and load arm 15. Carrier bar 11 is designed to be hollow on the inside, thus serving as a compressed-air channel. The compressed air flows through leak display 13 from carrier bar 11. Sealing 16 is provided between leak display 13 and carrier bar 11. From leak display 13, the compressed air arrives at rotary slide valve 14 through channel 19. Rotary slide valve 14 is shown here in its closing position ; however, in its flowing position it connects to leak display 13. Seals 17 and 18 are provided at the transition points to rotary slide valve 14. Depending on the position of rotary slide valve 14 or of top roller bearing and load arm 15, rotary slide valve 14 closes the compressed-air supply to a compressed-air channel 20 in top roller bearing and load arm 15 or releases it.
