Title of Invention

A GATE AND GLOBE VALVE

Abstract A gate and globe valve comprising a bonnet provided with a base; and a top boss above the base, characterised in that the said base is rigidly connected to the top boss by an enclosed casing
Full Text

This invention relates to a gate and globe valve. Gate and globe valves are used in flow control application for all fluid applications from water, air to gases. The industries vary from water distribution, chemical plants, to the ship building Industry. The main pressure bearing components for gate and globe valves are the body and bonnet. On top of the bonnet are provided the actuating mechanisms such as the hand wheel, the gear unit, electrical actuator among others.
The known gate and globe valve suffers from the drawback that it does not have high shock resistance such as is necessary in ships which undergo shock loads.
This invention, on the other hand, proposes a gate and globe valve which does not suffer from the above mentioned drawback. The gate and globe valve, according to this invention, comprises a bonnet provided with a base; and a top boss above the base, characterised in that the said base is rigidly

connected to the top boss by an enclosed casing. This invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings which illustrate in Fig. 1, a known gate and globe valve; in Fig. 2 an embodiment of the gate and globe valve proposed herein; in Fig. 3, a separate view of the casing by way of example and not by way of limitation
Referring to Fig. 1 of the drawings, in the known valve the base 1 and top boss 2 of the bonnet are connected by means of two pillars 3. This pillar connection is weak and if it undergoes a shock load, there is every possibility of it developing a crack and even collapsing. Referring to Fig.2 of the drawings illustrating an embodiment of this invention it will be observed that the base B and the top boss T are connected by a fully enclosed casing C. The connection between the base B and the top boss T is rigid and the shock load is folly taken up by the casing C without cracking or collapsing.

The casing C is separately illustrated in Fig. 3
The terms and expressions herein are of description and not of limitation, having regard to the scope and ambit of this invention.

We Claim:
1. A gate and globe valve comprising a
bonnet provided with a base; and a top boss
above the base, characterised in that the said
base is rigidly connected to the top boss by an
enclosed casing.
2. A gate and globe valve substantially
as herein described with reference to, and as
illustrated in, the accompanying drawings
