A METHOD OF MANUFACTURE OF A FLUSH DOOR

Abstract 25 MAS 01 A method of manufacture of a door comprising the steps of building a framework of rails and stiles from kiln seasoned timber, the spaces between the rails and stiles being packed with filler material; preparing face panels of fibre board; adhesively bonding the said panels on either side of the said framework by coating with bonding agents selected from natural and synthetic phenolic resins, resorcinol, cresol and phenol formaldehyde, characterised in that the face panels are tempered in situ with oils selected from vegetable and mineral oils, such as, linseed oil, tung oil, castor oil, turpentine, white spirits; and in that the coated surfaces are hardened and hot pressed, the door so obtained being trimmed.
Full Text

This invention relates to a method of manufacture of a door and a door whenever manufactured by the said method.
The door proposed herein has high resistance to humidity and moisture. Its manufacture involves steps which are easily carried out in situ, thereby rendering the method proposed herein more economical.
Various other features of this invention will be apparent from the following further description thereof.
The method of manufacture of a door, according to this invention, comprises the steps of building a framework of rails and stiles from kiln seasoned timber, the spaces between the rails and stiles being packed with filler material; preparing face panels of fibre board and tempering the same, in situ, with oils selected fron vegetable and mineral oils, such as, linseed oil, tunc oil, castor oil, turpentine, adhesively bonding the said panels on either side of the said framework by coating with bonding agents selected from natural and synthetic phenolic resins, resorcinol, cresol i and

phenol formaldehyde; hardening and hot pressing the coated surfaces; and trimming the door so obtained.
While carrying out the method herein, kiln seasoned timber is chosen from the desired source, such as, timber from plantations. The use of forest wood is avoided, if possible, for environmental reasons.
From the selected kiln Seasoned timber, a framework of rails and stiles is built. The rails are horizontal members and the stiles are the vertical members of the framework. The space between the rails and stiles of the
framework is packed with filler material.
«.•
Face panels for covering the framework on either side are then prepared, corresponding to the dimensions of the framework. These panels are preferably of high density fibre board.
These face panels are tempered in situ by impregnating them with oils selected from vegetable and mineral oils, such as, linseed oil, tung oil, castor oil, turpentine, white spirits

The face panels are then adhesively bonded to the framework on either side thereof by coating with bonding agents selected from natural and synthetic phenolic resins, resorcinol, cresol and phenol formaldehyde.
The coated surfaces are then hardened by heat setting or by hardening agents.
The said surfaces are then hot pressed and the door so obtained is then trimmed. The hot pressing is carried out at / temperatures between 80 - 120 degrees C and between 15 - 25 Kg./sg.cm.
The phenol formaldehyde referred to above is novolak converted into a resol, the said resol being such that the resin cross-links and hardens on the addition of a substance selected from para-toluene sulfonic acid, phenol, polyphenol, resorcinol, cresol, aldenydes, tannins

We Claim:
1. A method of manufacture of a door comprising the
steps of building a framework of rails and stiles from
kiln seasoned timber, the spaces between the rails and
stiles being packed with filler material? preparing
face panels of fibre board and tempering the same, in
situ with oils selected from vegetable and mineral
oils, such as, linseed oil, tung oil, castor oil,
turpentine 9 adhesively bonding the said panels on
either side of the said framework by coating with
bonding agents selected from natural and synthetic
phenolic resins, resorcinol, cresol and phenol
formaldehyde; hardening and hot pressing the coated
surfaces; and trimming the door so obtained.
2. A method as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the phenol formaldehyde ia novolak converted into a resol, the said resol being such that the resin crosslinks and hardens on the addition of a substance selected from para-toluene sulfonic acid, phenol, polyphenol, resorcinol, cresol. Aldehydes ,tannins
3. A method as claimed in claim 1 or Claim 2 wherein, the hardening is carried out by heat setting.

4. A method as claimed in any one of the preced ing
Claims wherein the hardening is carried out by
hardening agents.
5. A method as c1 aimed in any one of the preceding
Claims wherein the hot pressing is carried out at
/temperatures between 80 - 120 degrees C.
6. A method as claimed in any one of the preceding
Claims wherein the hot pressing is carried out between
15 - 25 Kg./sq.cm.
7. A method of manufacture of a dodr substantially as
herein described and illustrated.
8. A door whenever manufactured by a method as
claimed in any one of the preceding Claims.
