Abstract | A venous reservoir with integral cardiotomy reservoir for blood oxygenator comprising: a housing, said housing having a venous chamber (4) and a cardiotomy chamber (3) in flotAl communication tAlith each other, said venous chamber having a venous blood inlet (5) and an outlet (6); said cardiotomy chalftber having inlet (7) and a coupling section (13) with said shell for connection to an oxygenator. |
Full Text | FIELD OF INVENTION This invention more particularly relates to improved venous reservoir with integral cardiotomy reservoir for blood oxygenator. BACKGROUND OF INVENTION Venous Reservoirs are disposable devices more often used with Blood Oxygenators in open heart surgeries to collect, defoam and temporarily store the venous and cardiotomy blood from the patient. The input to the device is the raw venous and cardiotomy blood from the patient. The output of the device is the filtered and defoamed blood. OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION An object of this invention is to propose an improved venous reservoir with integral cardiotomy reservoir for collection of venous blood and collection defoaming and filtering of cardiotomy blood. Another object of this invention is to propose an improved venous reservoir with integral cardiotomy reservoir for collection of venous blood and collection, defoaming and filtering of cardiotomy blood which is easy to fabricate, sterilise and store for specified period without any impairment of efficiency. DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION According to this invention there is provided an improved venous reservoir with integral craniotomy reservoir for blood oxygenator comprising: a housing said housing having a venous chamber and a cardiotomy chamber in flow communication with each other ili) said venous chamber having a venous blood inlet and an outlet said carditomy chamber having inlet y)/ a coupling section with said shell for connection to an oxygenator. DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION WITH REFERENCE TO ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS Further objects and advantages of this invention will be more apparent from the ensuing description with respect to the accompanying drawings and wherein: Fig.l. shows a front perspective view of the venous reservoir with integral cardiotomy reservoir; and Fig.2. shows a sectional view of the venous reservoir with integral carditomy reservoir. Referring to the drawings the venous reservoir with integral cardiotomy reservoir consisting comprises a housing of a tapered shell (1) having a top cover (2) made preferably of rigid plastics like Polycarbonate, Polystyrene There are two chambers inside shell l,viz cardiotomy reservoir chamber (3) and venous reservior chamber (4) both being connected to each other. Shell 1 has a venous blood inlet (5) and outlet (6) port, cardiotomy inlet port (7), venous sampling ports (8), thermowell and port (9) and air vents (10). There is also an auxiliary venous inlet port and quick prime port (12). The venous inlet port (5) has the provision to rotate on it's own axis to provide operator convenience. A neck (13) is provided for coupling to the 'Oxygenator' -another device to be used along with this device. The profile (14) and projections (15) for the seating of suitable holder for the device. The following are the major subsystems of the device 1. Cardiotomy reservoir and filter This section of the device collects, defoam and store the cardiotomy blood Graded fine and coarse filters 16 are provided to give desired cutoff for filtration. The stuffed defoamer with appropriate coating carry out the defoaming function. Provision is also there to eliminate the free fall of blood Which may damage it and also for the proper seating of the filter components. The reservoir chamber directly communicates with the venous chamber and profile is tapered to allow smooth flow of blood. 2. Venous reservoir This section receives the venous blood and delivers to the venous chamber through a coarse filter 17. The extension to the venous inlet assures the delivery of venous blood at the bottom of the shell so as avoid any splash of blood. WE CLAIM: 1. An improved venous reservoir with integral cardiotomy reservoir for blood oxygenator comprisings a housing. said housing having a venous chamber (4) and a cardiotomy chamber (3) in flow communication with each other, said venous chamber having a venous blood inlet and an outlet (6> said carditomy chamber having inlet (7) and a coupling section (13) with said shel1 for connection to an oxygenator. 2- An improved venous reservoir as claimed in claim 1 wherein said venos blood inlet is rotatable. 3. An improved Venous reservoir as claimed in claim 1 wherein said cardiotomy chamber (3) has a filter (16) comprising of fine and coarse filters. 4. An improved venous reservoir as claimed in claim 1 wherein said venous chamber (4) has a filter (17) 5. An improved venous resservoir as claimed in claim 1 wherein said housing is tapered. 6. An improved venous reservoir substantially as herein described and i1lustrated. |
