---|---|
Abstract | An apparatus (200), for detecting the presence or position of an opthalmic lens (218), such as a contact lens, in a container (220) having a lidstock (212) with a reflective (211) facing the inside of the container (220), the container containing saline solution in which the lens (218) is submerged, the apparatus (200) comprising: a source (202) of electromagnetic energy in the ultraviolet range located relative to the container (220) to direct ultraviolet electromagnetic energy at the container (220); a non-imaging detector (204,206,210) disposedrelative to the container (220) and the source (202) to detect electromagnetic energy in the ultraviolet range from the source (202)which is reflected by the lens(218) and the reflective surface (211) of the lidstock (212) of the container (220); and a processor (116) for determining the presence or position of the lens (218) in the container (220) respective to reflection of the ultraviolet electromagnetic energy by the lens(218). |
