Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to a shaving implement and is directed more particularly to a modified composite handle disposable shaving system which is a combination of a blade seat and tail portion comprising a composite long handle, this shaving implement has the blade seat portion of the shaving head permanently attached to the handle.
Description of the Prior Art
In the prevailing practice (in the trade) in a disposable razor system the shaving head portion and the handle portion ate provided with corresponding inter locking system by which they are enjoyed during manufacturing operation. It has been discovered that a twin blade shaving system, in which geometrical relationships like blade tangent angle, protrusion and span are maintained within critical limits, provide superior shaving characteristics. In such a shaving system the two cutting edges are exposed parallel to one another and in a predetermined relation to provide leading and following cutting edges, so that both cutting edges are successively active with respect to hair elements being cut during a shaving stroke. The cutting edges are supported in spaced parallel relation to one another. A guard structure along with a blade-sitting platform known as the blade seat member is disposed in a fixed relation to the cutting edges to define in part the desired geometrical relationship. The top cap portion which is having integrally moulded pins on its body to locate and cover the blades is riveted to the seat portion along with the blades to complete the shaving head. The handle portion is then attached to the head and the head is fitted with a protective removable cover known as the protective cap.

- 3 -
In the above said components, the component "seat" is proyided with a guard structure and a platform and provision for interlocking the handle. To maintain critical shaving geometry the component seat and handle parts has to be made to critical dimensional tolerances and assembled precisely in the assembly process. Even after taking all necessary precautionary measures there are chances of deviation in shaving geometry, loading the handle in reverse direction or detachment of handles from shaving head.
To avoid the above drawback of the prevalent system in the present invention the handle and the seat portion of the blade head are moulded together as a single component. This ensures better control on geometry of the system and also reduces the product cost considerably. Cost will be reduced due to less number of moulding and assembly operation.
It is, therefore, an important object of the present invention to provide a shaving implement which is novel in its construction, easy to manufacture and obviates all disadvantages and drawbacks associated with the shaving systems existing in the art.
A further object of the present invention is to provide a shaving implement wherein the handle cannot be replaceable or removable from the shaving head and consequently endures a fixed predetermined geometric relation.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a shaving implement wherein the main plastic component used is the composite long handle wherein its head accommodates the blades and the top cap, thereby reducing the cost of the product and providing improved functional characteristics.

- 4 -
Keeping the above objects in mind, the present invention, thus provides a shaving implement comprising a composite long handle member which accommodates a top cap member 20 having projected pins (PP); a top blade 30; a bottom blade 40 and a spacer member 60 for maintaining the said top and bottom blades in a spaced parallel relationship wherein the above components are placed one over the other and the said projected pins of the top cap are riveted so that the composite long handle with blades are permanently affixed
The composite long handle is a handle combined with a platform guard portion, which are moulded integrally having specific rivet holes (o)- on the platform (PF) for accommodating all the components comprising of front blade, rear blade, blade spacer, the top cap with provisions for, together all the said components to form the shaving system. The bottom blade 40 is having first cutting edge and top blade 30 is having second cutting edge and the top and bottom cutting edges each having blade tangent angle in the range of 18 - 20° and span in the range of 0.05 to 2.00 mm. The bottom blade is having protrusion (PROT-1) of 0.03 +/- 0.03 and the said top blade having protrusion of (PROT-2) of 0.07 +/- 0.07. Among the important geometrical relationships blade tangent angle protrusion, span and shaving angle (SA) are the important parameters in the twin shaving systems. The above parameters are maintained within critical limits to provide superior shaving characteristics. In this shaving systems two blades are placed parallel to each othet maintaining a gap of 0.4 to 0.6 mm by inserting a spacer member 50 in between the top and the bottom blade. Both the blades are placed in such a way that each blade having a tangent angle (BTA-1, BTA-2) as shown in Fig. 9 in the range of 18 - 20° and span in the range of 0.5 to 2.00 mm and shaving angle (SA) in the range 65+/-50. The cutting edges are supported by spacer teeth point (TP) and are maintained parallel relations to one another.

- 5 -
A guard structure (GC) is provided on the platform (PF) of the composite long handle in a fixed relation to the cutting edges to define desired geometrical relationship including the above referred blade tangent angle, protrusion, span and shaving angle.
The assembly comprising a top cap member 20, a top blade 30, a bottom blade 40, a spacer member 50 and a composite long handle member 60 becomes permanent integral body and handle or any other part of the shaving head cannot subsequently be removed or replaced.

Referring now to the accompanying drawings of Figures 1 to 9 and particularly in Figure 10, this is illustrated the manner in which the span (S) is determined. The span (S) of bottom blade (40) S1 is the distance between the bottom blade cutting edge (CEB) and tangent on plane (C) of immediately preceding skin engaging surface i.e. guard portion. The span (S) of top blade (30) is the distance between the top blade cutting edge (CET) and tangent point of immediately forward skin engaging surface i.e. bottom cutting edge. The span S1 and S2 fall within the range of 0.5 mm - 2.0 mm.
Referring to Figure 11 this is illustrated the manner in which the protrusion (Prot) is determined. The protrusion of bottom blade (40) Prot-1 is determined by extending a line (c-e) between the tangent points immediately preceding the following top cutting edge, ie. from the guard tangent point (C) to the top blade cutting edge (CET). A line (h~h) is then extended tangent to the bottom cutting edge and parallel to the line (c-e). The perpendicular distance between the lines (C-e) and (h-h) define (Prot-1), The Prot-1 fails within the range 0.03+/-0.03 mm..
The protrusion of top blade (30) Prot-2 is determined by extending a line (a-o) between the tangent point immediately preceding the following bottom cutting edge that is from the top cap tangent point (o) to the bottom blade cutting edge. A line (I~j) is then extended tangent to the top blade cutting edge and parallel to line (a-o) the perpendicular distance between the lines (a-o) and (I-j) defines Prot-Z The Prot-2 falls within the range 0.07+/-0.07 mm.
