Full Text | This invention relates to a subframe assembly for the main frame of a scooter type motor vehicle. Although the expression "scooter type motor vehicle" is used in this specification it is to be construed as including any other type of motor vehicle as well, to which this invention is applicable. The scooter type of motor vehicle has a main frame on which various parts of the vehicle are mounted, such as, the pillion handle, rear lamp assembly and so on* Such parts are mounted on the main frame of the vehicle during assembly of the vehicle as a whole, rendering the assembly-line procedure tedious and cumbersome, inasmuch as such small parts will have to be individually mounted on the assembly line, consuming time which can otherwise be profitably utilised. It is therefore an object of this invention to reduce time and labour while assembling the vehicle as a whole by providing a subframe assembly as an integrated unit which is constructed independently of the main assembly of the vehicle. Thus, during assembly of the vehicle, the subframe assembly is quickly and readily attachable, as an integral unit, to the main frame of the vehicle, on the assembly line. Whenever required, as for instance, during maintenance and repair jobs, such assembly is as quickly and readily detachable, as an integral unit, from the main frame. Thus, not only during manufacture, but also during post-manufacture jobs to be carried out on the vehicle, this invention is beneficial from several points of view. The subframe assembly for a scooter type of motor vehicle, according to this invention, comprises a first strip member of substantially U-shaped configuration, the said strip member terminating in two fastener plates attachable to the rear portion of the main frame of the vehicle; first and second brackets respectively fixed to the two sides of the said strip member for mounting the pillion handle of the vehicle; a third bracket fixed to the outer side of the U-bend portion of the said strip member for mounting the top portion of the rear lamp assembly of the vehicle; a fourth bracket fixed to the inner side of the U-bend portion of the said strip member for mounting the fuel tank of the vehicle; an auxiliary strip member, surrounding the said U-bend portion and fixed to the main strip member, for mounting the rear fender assembly along with the bottom portion of the rear lamp assembly of the vehicle; a fifth bracket for mounting the fuel tank; sixth and seventh brackets respectively fixed to two sides of the auxiliary strip member for mounting the side panels of the vehicle. This Invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings which Illustrate by way of example, and not by way of limitation, one of various possible embodiments of the proposed subframe assembly proposed herein Flg.l Illustrating the embodiment alone and Fig.2 Illustrating the said embodiment along with components, such as, the fender assembly, fuel tank, rear lamp assembly, pillion handle, mounted in place. A first strip member SI, preferably made of metal, of substantially U-shaped configuration, is provided, the said strip member terminating in two fastener plates P1, P2 attachable to the rear portion R of the main frame M of the vehicle. First and second brackets Bl, B2 are respectively fixed to the two sides of the said strip member S1 for mounting the pillion handle of the vehicle. A third bracket B3 is fixed to the outer side of the U- bend portion U of the said strip member SI for mounting the top of the rear lamp assembly of the vehicle. A fourth bracket B4 is fixed to the inner side of the U-bend portion U of the said strip member SI for mounting the fuel tank T of the vehicle. An auxiliary strip member S2, also, preferably, made of metal, surrounds the said U-bend portion U and is fixed to the main strip member, for mounting the rear fender assembly at along with the botton portion of the rear lamp assembly of the vehicle. A fifth bracket B5 mounts the fuel tank T of the vehicle. Sixth and seventh brackets B6 and B7 are respectively fixed to two sides of the auxiliary strip member S2 for mounting the two side panels of the vehicle. The subframe assembly, so constructed, is directly attached to the main frame M of the vehicle by means of the fastener plates P1, P2, with the components aforesaid being already mounted on the said assembly. The terms and expressions In this specification are of description and not of limitation and do not exclude any equivalents of the features Illustrated and described, but It Is understood that various other embodiments of the subframe assembly are possible without departing from the scope and ambit of this Invention. We Claim: 1. A subframe assembly for a scooter type of motor vehicle, comprising a first strip member of substantially U-shaped configuration, the said strip member terminating in two fastener plates attachable to the rear portion of the main frame of the vehicle; first and second brackets respectively fixed to the two sides of the said strip member for mounting the pillion handle of the vehicle; a third bracket fixed to , the outer side of the U-bend portion of the said strip member for mounting the top portion of the rear lamp assembly of the vehicle; a fourth bracket fixed to the inner side of the U-bend portion of the said strip member for mounting the fuel tank of the vehicle; an auxiliary strip member, surrounding the said U-bend portion and fixed to the main strip member, for mounting the rear fender assembly along with the bottom portion of the rear lamp assembly of the vehicle; a fifth bracket for mounting the fuel tank; sixth and seventh brackets respectively fixed to two sides of the auxiliary strip member for mounting the side panels of the vehicle. 2. A subframe assembly for a scooter type vehicle substantially as herein described and illustrated with reference to the accompanying drawings* |
