Title of Invention | A TOGGLE LINK DEVICE FOR MOUNTING THE ENGINE OF A SCOOTER TYPE VEHICLE ON THE FRAME ASSEMBLY |
---|---|
Abstract | A toggle link device for mounting the engine of a scooter type vehicle on the frame thereof, comprising a swivelable member carrying three spaced connectors fixed to the engine; a stopper bracket, provided with a cushion, for at least one of the end connectors; and two bushes provided for the end connectors for being clamped to the frame. |
Full Text | This invention relates to a toggle link device for mounting the engine of a scooter type vehicle on the frame thereof. The term "scooter type vehicle" in this specification not only means the scooter type two wheeler vehicle as it is popularly known but also includes any other vehicle to which this invention is applicable. Conventionally, the toggle link device has one or two connectors for taking the load of the engine. However, the known toggle link device has the disadvantage that with the two connectors that are used, the overall strength of the toggle link has to be increased without sacrificing the rider; handling of the vehicle. Secondly, the known toggle link device has stoppers provided which are independent of the connectors that are used and, therefore, the connectors do not play any role in the stopping mechanism of the toggle link. On the other hand, the toggle link device proposed herein is provided with three spaced connectors, whereby the load to be borne is distributed between them. Accordingly, the load bearing strength of each connector is reduced, thereby reducing the cost. Furthermore, in the proposed device, the spaced configuration of the connectors furnishes a wider span of support for the engine, thus improving rid?:;, handling of the vehicle. In the proposed toggle link device a stopper is provided for at least one of the end connectors. Such connector(s) not only serves the purpose of load bearing, but also serves to take on impact forces, by reason of its dual function as a load bearer and stopper The toggle link arrangement for mounting the engine of a scooter type vehicle on the frame thereof, according to this invention, comprises a swivelable member carrying three spaced connectors fixed to the engine; a stopper bracket, provided with a cushion, for at least one of the end connector's; and two bushes provided for the end connectors for being clamped to the frame. This invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings which illustrate by way of example, and not by way of limitation, one of various possible embodiments of the device proposed herein, wherein Fig.l illustrates a view of the said embodiment in perspective and Fig.2 illustrates a part of the vehicle in which the said embodiment is installed. A swivelable member S carries three spaced connectors CI C2 and C3 fixed to the engine. Two bushes G, preferably made of rubber, provided at the ends of the member S are fixed to the frame of the vehicle at A for facilitating the swiveling action. The centre connector CI is provided with a tube T. The engine E is pivotably supported by a supporting rod R, attached to the engine, the rod passing through the tube T and the holes H in the connectors C2 and C3, to mount the engine pivotably. During movement of the vehicle, the engine tends to move up and down, pivotably at the tube T and the connectors CI C2 and C3, thus causing the connectors to move swivelably at the swivelable points of support A of the member S. This movement is limited by the stopper M, shown as being provided for the connector C3. The stopper M, at the end of its travel, butts against the frame, to limit the swivelling movement of the member S. The stopper comprises a stopper bracket B provided with a cushion C, such as, a rubber pad. The terms and expressions herein are of description and not of limitation, and do not exclude any equivalents of the features illustrated and described, since various other embodiments of the said device are possible without departing from the scope and ambit of this invention. We Claim: 1. A toggle link device for mounting the engine of a scooter type vehicle on the frame thereof, comprising a swivelable member carrying three spaced connectors fixed to the engine; a stopper bracket, provided with a cushion, for at least one of the end connectors; and two bushes provided for the end connectors for being clamped to the frame. 2. A toggle link device as claimed in Claim 1 wherein the cushion is a rubber pad. 3. A toggle link device as claimed in Claim 1 or Claim 2 wherein the abushes are made of rubber. 4. A toggle link device for mounting the engine of a scooter type vehicle substantially as herein described and illustrated with reference to the accompanying drawings.
