Title of Invention

A DEVICE FOR DE PRESSING TONGUE

Abstract In A Device for Depressing Tongue, there is a tongue piece made of soft 'NOod with a thickness of 1.5 -2 millimeter and having a length of 5 -7 centimeters. It is attached to a mechanical holder which holds the tongue depressor firmly in place. The tongue depressor is stabilize with a thin metal stabilizer. It is then connected to a round handle with magnifying glass which can magnify 3 to 5 times an image. A light source is also attached to the distal end of the mechanical holder. A battery holder containing two batteries is Inserted in the round handle along with a switch which controlls the light source. Fig (i) shows the external features and Fig (ii) & (iii) shows the cross sectional features of A Device for Depressing Tongue respectively. The entire instrument is easily transported from place to place and can be car- ried along with the doctor. Thus it act as an eGO friendly oral cavity examination instru- ment.

This invention by the inventors is an ecofriendly tongue depressor which is used often by doctors especially ENT Specialists, Pediatricians, General Surgeons and General Practioners to visualize the oral cavity to see infections and other disease conditions in the throat and its associated tissues and organs. Today metallic and plastic tongue depressors are used. One of the basic difficulties with this tongue depressors is that this should be sterilized constantly and each sterilization takes minimum of 15 to 20 minutes. This makes the tasks very difficult. Not only that the head mirror as well as the light source use now are all independent units such that the doctors finds its difficult to adjust to all this. The Kehlescope is build to tackle all this disadvantage. Such that its acts as a ecofriendly simple and easy to handle instrument attached with a light source and magnifying glass acting as a microscope to give clear enlarged field of vision. The above mentioned Kehlescope consists of a tongue piece which is made of hot clean soft wood and hence easily disposable as well as degradable. The tongue piece is attached to a mechanical holder which holds the tongue piece firmly and flexibly. It is stabilized with a stabilizer. The holder is connected with a light source which includes torch light bulb or LED and a magnifying glass which acts as a viewer giving a magnified field of view of the area focused. This holder is connected to a hand piece which is round and easy to handle, it encloses a battery holder There is a switch in the proximal part of the handle. A switch is also connected at the distal end of the tongue piece holder which acts as a mechanical system to eject the tongue piece as well as inserting a new tongue piece. Thus this is an integrated instrument simple and easy to use.
This invention is again explained with reference to the accompanying drawings where in the figure shows the layout diagram of the device as per the invention. Referring to the figure I drawn the tongue piece is (1) Tongue piece holder (2) Tongue piece stabilizer (3) Light source (4) and Mechanical Switch (5). All this five elements constitute the first piece [A]. [A] is connected to piece [B] which consists of a magnifying glass (6) and round handle (7) which encloses a battery holder (8). It is made more dear in the cross section view figure II. The proximal part of the handle piece holds an electrical switch which controls the light source. The tongue piece has a length of about 5-7 cms. Referring to figure II which is a cross sectional schematic view of the basic mechanical sector of the device. Refering to the Figure II. Mechanical clip (a) connected to a mechanical switch (5) attached to a spring (b) when the lever is released, at the tip of the clip there is a small opening into which the tongue piece (1) is inserted and when the mechanical switch is released the tongue piece is held in fixed position. The tongue stabiliser (3) helps to avoid heavy bending of the tongue piece. The piece (A) enteres the oral cavity and helps in depressing the tongue which is highly manuevarable. The electrical switch (9) which is attached to piece (B) makes the light source (4) work

according to the needs and using the magnifying viewer (6) the examiner can examine the oral cavity deep inside and its associate organs and structures. A battery source (8) is in the handle piece (7).
Advantages:-
This instrument is very simple in construction, easy to use and can be purchased at affordable prices. Not only that it is eco friendly and disposable. It an integrated simple instrument which can be used by all doctors especially ENT surgeons, Pediatrician, General Surgeons and General Practioners.
