Abstract |
This invention relates to an improved process for cultivating Lactobacillus acidoRhilus in a novel culture medium. This medium consists of 10 to 30 g/l of glucose, 5 to 15 g/l of Beef extract, 5 to 15 g/l of peptone, 2 to 8 g/l of sodium acetate, 2 to 8 g/l of yeast extract, 2 to 3 g/l of ammonium citrate, 2 to 3 g/l of disodium hydrogen phosphate, 1.5 g/l of polyoxyethylene sorbitol mono acetate; 0.05 g/l of magnesium sulphate, 1 to 5 g/l of growth factors such as vitamins in aqueous medium. Fermentation is carried out at a pH of about 6.5 and at a temperature range of 35 to 37°C. The biomass obtained is harvested, centrifuged and freeze dried. The product obtained has 10 billion per gram of colony forming units and may be diluted as desired. |
