A POWER CREEL FOR FEEDING SLIVER TO A LAP PACKAGE PRODUCTION MACHINE

Abstract A power creel for feeding sliver to a lap package production machine comprising a pair of creels (Ci, C2) positively driven by a belts, each said creels comprising a frame member (200) provided with support members (201) having a plurality of rotatably drivable intake rollers (202), driven by flat belt drive through pulleys in the feed drafting roller of the respective drafting system, plurality of stud members (203), fitted to the feeding device frame having their axis parallel to the axis of said intake rollers, each stud member having plurality of swingable contact rollers (204) aligned with said intake rollers, plurality of adjustable sliver guides (205) and plurality of middle sliver guide assemblies (206) and plurality of inner sliver guide assembly (207) each guide assembly having an adjustable guide member and a sliver separator (208) mounted on the shaft of said frame member (200), sliver cans (SC) being located beneath the intake and contact rollers.
Full Text The invention relates to a power creel for feeding sliver to a lap package production machine
The lap package production machines known in the art essentially consist of an arrangement for the feeding of sliver from the carding machine provided in sliver cans. The cans are arranged in rows and the space between the cans are not adequate enough for the free movement of the machine attendants to attend to piecing of the sliver in case of end breakages and to replace of the empty cans with the full cans.
The power creel according to the invention is a feeding arrangement for feeding the draw frame slivers deposited in plurality of sliver card to the lap package production machine which will provide easy access to the can area for the piecing and to replace the empty cans with full cans.
Thus the invention provides a power creel for feeding sliver to a lap package production machine comprising a pair of creels positively driven by respective belts, each said creels comprising a frame member provided with support members having a plurality of rotatably drivable intake rollers, driven by flat belt drive through pulleys in the feed drafting roller of the respective drafting system, plurality of stud members, fitted to the feeding device frame having their axis parallel to the axis of said intake rollers, each stud member having plurality of swingable contact rollers aligned with said intake rollers, plurality of adjustable sliver guides and plurality of middle

sliver guide assemblies and plurality of inner sliver guide assembly each guide assembly having an adjustable guide member and a sliver separator mounted on the shaft of said frame member, sliver cans being located beneath the intake and contact rollers.
With reference to the accompanying drawings:
Fig 1- shows two power creels according to the invention.
Fig 2-shows the sliver path in the power creels according to the invention
Fig.3-shows the enlarged view of the portion indicated by "A" in Figure 1.
Fig.4-shows the enlarged view along the direction "B" indicated in Figure 1.
The card slivers are drafted in a drawing frame and the draw frame slivers in cans (SC) are presented to the lap package production machine comprising two feed creels (C1, C2). Each such creel is a power creel positively driven by belt.
The arrangement of feed cans and the means of drawing the sliver from feed cans (SC) of one of the feeding device is explained in detail and the same holds good for the other feeding device also.

Each of the creels are capable of feeding up to 14 slivers from the cans arranged in it. In a preferred embodiment the cans are arranged in four rows. The cans are so arranged that it allow free access for attending the piecing requirement and the replacement of the empty cans with full cans .
A feeding device frame (200) provided with a drive for the intake rollers is supported by means of supports (201). Plurality of intake rollers (202) are mounted on anti friction bearings along their respective axes and rigidly fitted to the feeding device frame (200). The intake rollers (202) are driven by flat belt drive through pulleys in feed drafting roller of the respective drafting system. Plurality of studs (203) are fitted to the feeding device frame (200) such that the their axes are parallel to the axes of the in take rollers (202). Plurality of contact rollers (204) mounted on anti friction bearings and swingably connected to studs (203). The contact rollers are driven by friction means when kept over the rotating intake rollers. Plurality of sliver guides (205) are pivoted over the studs (203) such that the position of the sliver guide can be adjusted in both axial and radial direction with respect to the stud. Plurality of middle sliver guide assembly (206) and inner sliver guide assembly (207) are pivoted over the stud (203), and disposed such that the position of the guide attached to the sliver guide assemblies are adjustable both in axial direction and radial direction over the stud.
The sliver cans (SC) are positioned in the feeding device as shown in the figurel. The sliver from the sliver cans kept directly beneath the

intake and contact roller pairs (202,204) guided through the inner sliver guides (207) into the nip of the intake roller and contact roller pair.
The slivers from the sliver cans (SC) kept away from the sliver cans kept directly beneath the intake and contact roller pairs (202, 204) are guided through the sliver guides (205), and middle sliver guides (206) into the nip of the intake roller and contact roller pairs.
The slivers are driven in a direction towards the drafting arrangement due to the rotation of the intake roller and contact rollers. Plurality of sliver separators (208) are mounted on sliver guide shaft and the sliver delivered by the intake roller and contact roller pair is guided through sliver separators (208) provided, for proper guidance of the sliver and to avoid rubbing at higher delivery speeds.
