Title of Invention

AN IMPROVED WRAPPING MACHINE FOR BISCUITS

Abstract This invention relates to a device for clearing broken pieces/fallen biscuits/rusk in wrapping machine, which if not removed, can disturb wrapping or collation operation of the machine. The device comprises a lever provided with plate at its top. The lever is fulcrumed on a shaft which is given rotary movement by a link which is activated by a cam lever, which itself is rotated by another cam mounted on another shaft. When broken/ fallen biscuits are passing pass over the base plate, lever moves down creating a gap through which the broken pieces/fallen biscuits get dropped down. The movement of lever is synchronized in such a way that when stack of biscuits reaches near the gap, the lever moves up and the plate provided over its top, closes the gap thereby enabling the stack of biscuits to pass over.
Full Text F1ELD OF INVENTION
This invention relates to device for clearing broken pieces/fallen biscuits/rusk in a wrapping machine.
PRIOR ART
In a wrapping machine, biscuits are typically fed by an auto feeder to infeed conveyer that consists of continuously moving flight bars mounted on roller chains (Fig.l) These continuously moving flight bars convey the stacks of biscuits into the wrapping station of the machine. In some cases these stacks are first collated in predetermined numbers and then conveyed by a separate conveyor into the wrapping station of the machine. In this process while feeding biscuits into the infeed conveyor, some odd biscuits get broken and fall in the infeed conveyor. Such biscuits, which get broken or otherwise fall in the infeed conveyor, need to be removed. If such broken pieces/fallen biscuits are not removed from the conveyor, these can disturb the wrapping operation or the collation operation, as the case may be.
Presently the broken pieces/fallen biscuits in wrapping machines are manually removed by the machine operator. A draw back of this method is that it requires constant vigil on the part of machine operator and any slackness on his part can disturb the wrapping operations of the machine.
Another method adopted to remove broken pieces/fallen biscuits is to use machines, which blow air every cycle to blow away such biscuits at certain stage of the infeed conveyor. This requires regular blowing of air and is costly. Another disadvantage is that the blowing of air may also disturb the stack of normal biscuits, in addition to blowing away the broken biscuits.
OBJECTS OF PRESENT INVENTION
An object of the present invention is to provide a device for clearing broken pieces/fallen biscuits in a wrapping machine.
Another object of the present invention is to provide a device, which automatically drops out a broken biscuit without requiring any intervention by machine operator.
Still another object of the present invention is to provide a device, which is positive in the sense that it does not disturb any stack of normal biscuits.
Futher object of the present invention is to provide a device which is full proof in the sense that no broken biscuits gets crossed over and disturb wrapping operations and the device is therefore not dependent upon the vigil of the machine operator.
STATEMENT OF INVENTION
According to this invention there is provided a device for clearing broken pieces/fallen biscuits/rusk comprising hinged lever provided with a plate at its top and fulcrumed on shaft that is given rotary movement by link which is actuated by cam lever which is moved by cam mounted on shaft whose rotation is synchronized with revolution per cycle of the machine and base pake characterized with a bend near plate.
DESCRIPTION OF FIGURE
The invention will now be illustrated with accompanying drawings. It is to be understood that these drawings are intended to illustrate an embodiment of the present invention and are not intended to be taken restrictively to imply any limitation on the scope of the present invention. In the accompanying drawings-
Fig. 1: shows the infeed conveyer conveying the stacks of biscuits into wrapping
machine, as known in art;
Fig.2: shows the device of the present invention;
Fig. 3: shows the working of device for dropping out broken pieces/fallen biscuits;
DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION
Referring to fig.2, the device of the present invention consists of hinged lever (4) on the top of which is provided a plate (7). The hinged lever (4) is fijlcrumed on shaft (8) that is given rotary movement by means of link (9) which is actuated by cam lever (2). The cam (1) mounted on shaft (10) moves cam lever (2) through its follower. Shaft (10) moves at the machine speed, i.e. it makes one revolution per cycle of the machine. The base palte (S) over which biscuits are pushed has a gap that allows broken pieces/ fallen biscuits to easily pass through it, which get dropped out. Base plate (5) is also given a slight bend to make trapping of biscuits positive in the sense that only the broken pieces/fallen biscuits get dropped out.
WORKING OF DEVICE
When a stack of pre-determined number of biscuits, reaches close to the gap in base plate (7), as shown in Fig. 3, lever (4) moves down, thereby opening up a gap through which broken or fallen biscuits get trapped and get dropped down. As soon as the succeeding stack of biscuits reach the gap, lever (4) moves up and plate (7), provided over it, covers the gap so that stack of biscuits crosses over the closed gap, easily
It is to be noted that the present invention is susceptible to modifications, changes and adaptations by those skilled in the art. Such variant embodiments incorporating the concepts and features of the present invention, are intended to be within the scope of the present invention, which is further set forth under the following claims:-

I Claim :
1 A device for clearing broken pieces/fallen biscuits/rusk comprising hinged
lever (4) provided with a plate (7) at its top and fulcrumed on shaft (8) that is given rotary movement by link (9) which is actuated by cam lever (2) which itself is moved by cam (1) mounted on shaft (10) whose rotation is synchronized with revolution per cycle of the machine and wherein base plate (5) is characterized with a bend at a point near to plate (7).
2. A device for clearing broken pieces/fallen biscuits/rusk as substantially
described and illustrated herein.
