Title of Invention

A DRAFTING DEVICE FOR A LAP PACKAGE PRODUCTION MACHINE

Abstract ABSTRACT A drafting device for a lap package production machine The invention provides a drafting device for a lap package production machine. It comprises of four drafting rollers and four top rollers. The drive from the main motor is transmitted to the first drafting roller through a flat belt drive and the drive from the first drafting roller to the fourth drafting roller is transmitted by a timing belt through timing belt pulleys fitted at one of the ends of the first and fourth drafting rollers respectively. The other end of the fourth drafting roller is provided with a flat belt pulley. The drive from the fourth drafting roller is transmitted to third drafting roller and the second drafting roller by a flat belt through flat belt pulleys provided on the third and second drafting rollers respectively.
Full Text The invention relates to a drafting device for a lap package production machine
Lap package production machines with trolley arrangement for the transfer of heavy laps to the combing machine are known to overcome the disadvantage of multiple processing and the limitation in the preparation of laps of higher volume for feeding high speed combers. The lap package production machines comprises the drafting device for drafting the slivers. The drafting device normally driven by gear drives which produces undesirable noise level, during working of the machine.
It is an object of the invention to provide a drafting device for drafting the slivers fed to the feeding device of the lap package production machine which is smooth and produces reduced noise during the working of the machine
Thus the invention provides a drafting device for a lap package production machine comprising four drafting rollers and four top rollers characterised in that drive from the main motor is transmitted to the first drafting roller through a flat belt drive, drive from the said first drafting roller to the fourth drafting roller is transmitted by a timing belt through timing belt pulleys fitted at one of the ends of the first and fourth drafting rollers respectively, the other end of the said fourth drafting roller is provided with a flat belt pulley and drive from the said fourth drafting roller is transmitted to said third drafting roller

and said second drafting roller by a flat belt through flat belt pulleys provided on the third and second drafting rollers respectively.
With reference to the accompanying drawings:
Fig-1 shows a view of the drafting device according to the invention.
Fig-2 shows another view of the drafting device according to the invention.
The card slivers are drafted in a drawing frame and the draw frame slivers in cans are presented to the lap package production machine comprising two feed creels. Each such creel is positively driven by a belt. The feed slivers from the feed can is delivered to the drafting device.
The drafting device, according to the invention employs a drafting arrangement consisting of four drafting rollers (3, 4, 5, 6) and four top rollers (209) and uses a belt drive for the drive transmission to the drafting rollers (3,4,5,6). The drive from the main motor Is transmitted to the first drafting roller (3) through a flat belt drive. Timing belt pulleys (7,8) are fitted to the first and fourth drafting rollers respectively. The drive from the first drafting roller to the fourth drafting roller is transmitted through the pulleys (7,8) by the timing belt (9). Flat belt pulley (10) is mounted on the other end of the fourth drafting roller (6). Flat belt pulleys (11, 12) are mounted respectively on the third and second drafting rollers. Drive from the fourth drafting

roller (6) is transmitted to the third drafting roller (5) and second drafting roller (4) by a flat belt (13). The belt drive means employed facilitates smooth and quiet running of the drafting rollers. Compared to the conventional gearing arrangement the belt drive contributes to lesser noise level even at higher delivery speed of the drafting rollers.
The drafting rollers (3,4,5,6) are rotateably mounted on anti friction bearings arranged on bearing saddles (14,15,16,17,18,19,20,21). The bearing saddles along with the respective drafting rollers are secured at the required position in the drafting frame(26). Tensioning means is provided for advantageously using the same belt for different positions of the drafting rollers.
To facilitate drafting, the delivery rollers (3, 4, 5, 6) work in cooperation with top rollers (209), attached to each of the drafting rollers. The top rollers rest on the drafting rollers, such a way that their axes are parallel to the axes of the drafting rollers. Pressure cylinders (210) with pre-loaded spring is employed for the application of the load to the drafting system through the top rollers. The loading of the top rollers is achieved by mechanical means using lockable top arm pairs (22).
The drafting device is mounted on a frame, in such a way that the axes of the drafting rollers are parallel to axes of the calendar rollers and perpendicular to the direction of the flow of sliver from the creel.

An inlet sheet assembly (23) is provided for guiding and adjusting the width of the slivers that approaches the drafting zone. A table (24) is used to transfer the lap from the drafting zone to a table in the calendar roller zone. Guides (25) are used for controlling the width of the lap emerging from the drafting zone.
