Title of Invention |
AN EXPANSION JOINT FOR CIVIL STRUCTURES/BRIDGES |
Abstract |
The invention is an expansion joint for civil structures like bridges and buildings. Gaps are left between spans of bridge decks and building blocks, to allow the structural parts to relatively move. There are many different varieties are in use. Some are imported too. This invention is very cost effective and performance efficient. The joint is corrosion-free. The most novel aspect is that the road has an unbroken surface rendering a smooth ride quality to the road vehicles. After all the real person to be served is the road user. The FRP element edges are champhered so that there is no jerk experienced. The fabrication of the FRP joint is in a factory where good quality control is possible. The elements come to the site in an assembled box type form and bonding or anchoring is the only field work. The road obstruction in laying and replacing takes short time only and the road can be opened for traffic in a matter of couple of hours. Being light in weight the joint can be laid in vertical joints in buildings very easily. The joint will have long life with low maintenance expenditure. A sketch showing the expansion joints, all the 3 varieties, in Composites material is attached as Annexure 1. |
