Full Text A CYCLE FRAME LOCK
This invention relates to a cycle frame lock.
Background
The existing cycle locks are shown in figures la, 1b and 2a & 2b. In figures la and 1b, the existing cycle lock consists of a spring (SI) loaded lever (L) pivoted on pin (Tl). Plate (P) is fixed with pin (Tl) & (T2). Spring (S2) loaded shackle (SK) is provided inside the cover (C).
When the key (k) is operated spring (SI) loaded lever (L) pivoted on pin (Tl) swings to release the shackle (SK) thus opening the lock. To lock thumb rest (TR) attached to shackle is pushed downward. The spring loaded lever (L) swings to lock the shackle (SK) in its position.
The major drawback of this lock is lack of security due to negligible variations of keys.
Another drawback is the possibility of releasing lock without the specific key.
In figures 2a and 2b, the above lock is replaced by multiple lever front key loading cycle frame lock which consists of a spider (SP) and spring loaded levers (L), lever plate (LP), spring loaded shackle (SK) inside the cover plates (C). When the key is operated, spring loaded levers (L) swings and the spider (SP) slides. Button (B) fixed on a lever plate (LP) when pushed lowers the lever plate (LP) to shift and thereby releasing the shackle (SK) resulting in opening of lock. Thumb rest (TR) is pushed to move spring (S2) loaded shackle (SK) enabling spring (S3) loaded lever plate (LP) to shift downward to engage the

shackle (SK). On removing the key (K), spider (SP) slides and levers (L) swing back to actuate the lock.
The major benefit of single lever side key lock of side operation was compromised in multi lever lock due to the security reasons.
The drawback in this lock is the inconvenience in its interference with the carrier of the cycle.
The object and summary of invention.
The object of this invention is to obviate the above drawbacks by introducing a lock with ease of side operation and security of multi lever in a cost-effective manner by using a spring loaded lever tumbler.
To achieve said objective this invention provides a cycle frame lock comprising:
a spring loaded lever tumbler connected to swing plate for
releasing spring loaded shackle,
a spring is provided on said tumbler to actuate the tumbler and
swing plate for locking, - said tumbler is provided inside the sleeve,
said sleeve is mounted on a plate,
said plate is fixed to the cover,
said swing plate is placed inside a bracket having a slot for
allowing the swing plate to swing and is fixed on said plate,
a shackle guide is fixed on said plate to guide the movement of the
shackle,
the said shackle is loaded with a spring on the other side the arrangement being such that when the key is rotated in the said spring loaded lever tumbler, the spring loaded shackle moves in the shackle

guide and opens the lock and when the shackle is moved down it gets locked.
The said shackle is provided with a thumb-rest for moving the spring loaded shackle downward.
The said spring loaded lever tumbler mechanism can be positioned on any side of the cycle frame lock.
The said spring loaded lever tumbler is provided with a push button to operate as double action cycle frame lock.
Brief description of the drawings
The invention will now be described with reference to and as illustrated in the accompanying drawings.
Figures la & Ib show the existing single lever side key cycle frame lock
Figures 2a & 2b show the existing multiple lever front key loading cycle frame
lock.
Figure 3 shows the side key operated lever tumbler cycle frame lock, according
to this invention.
Detailed Description
The existing cycle locks, shown in figures la, Ib & 2a, 2b have been described under the heading 'background'.
Fig. 3 shows a side key lever tumbler cycle frame lock, which consists of a lever tumbler (T) fitted in a sleeve (J) and a bracket (B) is provided to swing the swing plate (SP). The said tumbler is fitted with spring (SI) loaded levers (L).

When the specific key (K) is inserted in the tumbler, spring loaded levers (L) slide into the slots (SL) of the tumbler making spring loaded tumbler (T) free to rotate inside the sleeve. On turning the key (K) for about 45°, tumbler (T) rotates to swing the swing plate (SP) resulting in release of shackle thus opening the lock.
When the thumb rest (TR) attached to the spring (S3) loaded shackle (SH) is pushed downwards to actuate the lock, the spring (S2) loaded swing plate swings back to lock the shackle in its position as shown in Fig. 3.
When the key is removed from the tumbler (T) spring loaded levers (L) slides outward into the slots (SL) due to the spring (SI) force.
The lever tumbler (T) can be of any desired size comprising of any number of spring loaded levers (L).

We claim:
1. A cycle frame lock comprising:
a spring loaded lever tumbler connected to swing plate for
releasing spring loaded shackle,
a spring is provided on said tumbler to actuate the tumbler and
swing plate for locking,
said tumbler is provided inside the sleeve,
said sleeve is mounted on a plate,
said plate is fixed to the cover,
said swing plate is placed inside a bracket having a slot for
allowing the swing plate to swing and is fixed on said plate,
a shackle guide is fixed on said plate to guide the movement of the
shackle,
the said shackle is loaded with a spring on the other side the arrangement being such that when the key is rotated in the said spring loaded lever tumbler, the spring loaded shackle moves in the shackle guide and opens the lock and when the shackle is moved down it gets locked.
2. A cycle frame lock as claimed in claim 1 wherein said shackle is
provided with a thumb-rest for moving the spring loaded shackle
downward.
3. A cycle frame lock as claimed in claim 1 wherein said spring loaded lever
tumbler mechanism can be positioned on any side of the cycle frame
lock.

4. A cycle frame lock as claimed in claim 1 wherein said spring loaded lever tumbler is provided with a push button to operate as double action cycle frame lock.
5. A cycle frame lock substantially as herein described with reference to and as illustrated in figure 3 of the accompanying drawings.
