Title of Invention

"SEALING MECHANISM IN A CONTAINER."

Abstract The present invention provides a sealing mechanism in a container made of plastic comprising: a container having a rib and a lip portion on the top of said container, a lid to be snugly fitted on said lip portion of said container characterized in that the outer wall and the inner wall of the lip portion makes 81-85° and 82-88° angles with the horizontal axis and the radius of the lip at the top corners from inner to outer edge of the lip vary from 0.4-0.9 mm and 0.9-1.6 mm such that the thickness of the lip increases with the height from the rib for providing snugly fitting to said lid
Full Text This invention relates to a sealing mechanism in a container made of plastic.
BACKGROUND
Containers available in the market do not fulfil the normal requirements of household in terms of air-tightness of containers for storing items like biscuits and other food items. After some time contents of the container get either contaminated or spoiled due to moisture.
The object of the invention is to provide a sealing mechanism between the lid and the container to obviate the above drawback.
To achieve the said objective this invention provides sealing mechanism in a
container made of plastic comprising:
a container having a rib and a lip portion on the top of said container,
a lid to be snugly fitted on said lip portion of said container characterized in that the outer wall and the inner wall of the lip portion makes 81-85° and 82-88° angles with the horizontal axis and the radius of the lip at the top corners from inner to outer edge of the lip vary from 0.4-0.9 mm and 0.9-1.6 mm such that the thickness of the lip increases with the height from the rib for providing snugly fitting to said lid
The said lip portion at the top has flat surface 0.7-1.3 mm
The said lid comprising:
a female contour on the periphery of said lid to be snugly fitted on said lip portion of the container

the outer wall of said female contour makes 102.29-106.29° angle and inner wall makes 92-98° angle and the radius at the bottom corners of said lip contour vary from 0.9-1.4 mm on outer side and 0.4-0.8 mm on the inner side such that the thickness of the female contour increases with the height of the lip and snugly fits in on the lip of the container
The said female contour portion at the top has a flat surface 1.0-1.5 mm The container is made of polypropylene.
The invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings
Figure 1 shows the container, according to this invention.
Figure 2 shows the lid, which is to be fitted on the top of the container according to this invention.
Detailed Description
Referring to the drawings, (1) shows the container, (2) shows the rib of the container and (3) is the lip of the container. Similarly, figure 2 shows lid (4) of the container, which snugly fits in to the lip (3) of the container.
Rib (2) gives support to the container. The container is made of polypropylene, The outer wall of the lip makes an angle 81-85° and the inner wall of the lip makes 82-88° such that the thickness of the lip increases as the height of the container increases. The corners of the lip on the top portion has inner radius 0.4-0.9 mm and the outer radius is 0.9-1.5 mm. it is the dimension of the lip
which makes the lid air-tight and the food products inside the container do not get spoilt, even if the container is kept in water.
In figure 2 lid (4) of the container is shown. The said lid has a female contour on the periphery of the lid to be snugly fitted onto said lip portion (3) of the container having female contour (5). The outer wall (6) of the female contour (5) makes an angle 102.29-106.29° and the inner wall (7) makes 92-98° with the horizontal axis.
Further, the female contour (5) has two bottom comers. The one bottom corner has the radius 0.9-1.4 mm and the other corner has the radius 0.4-0.8 mm. such that the thickness of the contour increases with the height of the lip of the container and thus the lid is snugly fitted to the container.
Further, there is a flat surface in the female contour 1.0-1.5 mm. The arrangement between the female contour (5) and the lip (3) of the container being such that when the lid is pressed on the lid it snugly fits into the container and thereby makes the container air-tight.

We claim:
