A PROCESS FOR THE PREPARATION OF A CLEANING COMPOSITION FROM INDUSTRIAL WASTE/BY PRODUCTS

Abstract A process for the preparation of a cleaning composition from industrial waste/by products, comprising the steps of contacting weak nitric acid of 55% to 60% concentration, obtained as a by product in the caprolactum industry, with urea, in stoichiometric quantities, in an agitator or blender, to yield urea nitrate and uniformly mixing up to 15 parts by wt. of the said urea nitrate with up tq 95 parts by wt. of dried phosphogypsum, obtained as industrial waste.
Full Text

This invention relates to a process of preparation of B cleaning composition for toilets, wash basins and the like from industrial waste/by products.
An object of this invention is to propose a process for the preparation of a cleaning composition which is cost saving and which at the same time yields a value added product.
Another object of this invention is to propose a process for the preparation of a cleaning composition which is ecologically friendly, since industrial waste/by products which otherwise would have constituted pollutants are gainfully utilised, on a commercial scale, in producing a useful product for the common man.
Yet another object of this invention is to propose a process as aforesaid which is simple and yet

effective.
Various other features of this invention will be apparent from the description thereof given hereunder.
The process, according to this invention, for the preparation of a cleaning composition from industrial waste/by products, comprises the steps of contacting weak nitric acid of 55%. to 60% concentration, obtained as a by product in the caprolactum industry, with urea, in stoichiometric quantities in an agitator or blender to yield urea nitrate and uniformly mixing up to 15 parts by wt. of the said urea nitrate with up to 95 parts by wt. of dried phosphogypsum obtained as industrial waste.
The process according to this invention will now be described with reference to an Example.

EXAMPLE
Weak nitric acid of 55% to 60% concentration, obtained as a by product in the caprolactum industry, is contacted with urea, in stoichiometric quantities in a reaction vessel which is jacketed with cooling water arrangement. Molar equivalents of urea to satisfy the need of HN03 is also charged into the same vessel. The vessel is fitted with a low rpm high power stirrer to mix the semisolid mass. The reaction taking place is exothermic (temperature is controlled to below 75 deg. C with jacketed cooling water) and yields urea nitrate which is an addition product of white crystalline nature.
CO {NH2)2 + HN03 CO (NH2)2 : HN03
The reaction product is charged into a pusher or basket centrifuge or nutsche filter. The mother

liquor goes back to the reaction tank or to the HN03 aborption tower, as the case may be, to maintain the water balance. The centrifuged or separated urea nitrate crystals are tray dried at 75 deg. C plus/minus 10 deg. C.
The vapour from the reaction vessel is taken to a scrubber and thence to a receiver. The mother liquor from the centrifuge is also discharged into the receiver. Urea is added as a supplement to the mother liquor and the scrub li|uor in the receiver. The mixed liquors are then recycled to the reaction ve'ssel to continue the process. Urea nitrate from the centrifuge is taken away for being dried.
To 10 parts by wt. of the urea nitrate so obtained, 90 parts by wt. of dried phosphogypsum

are added and the mass thoroughly mixed in a zigma blender or paddle mixer to get a uniform substance.
The phosphogypsum used is a waste material formed during the reaction of tricalcium phosphate with sulphuric acid to yield phosphoric acid.
Actually, waste phosphogypsum is available in the washed form having 20% to 25% water. The moist phosphogypsum is dried in tray/rotary driers or sundried before blending the same with urea nitrate as aforesaid.
The resulting composition has good cleaning and scouring properties useful in cleaning wash basins, toilets and the like.
The terms and expressions in this specification are of description and not of limitation having regard to the scope and ambit of this invention

We Claim:
