Abstract

An improved pencil with reusable extension attachment, adapted to extend the length of the said pencil, comprising of: -(a) an improved pencil (1) comprising a casing (3) having lead (2) along its axis characterized in that at least one end (6,10) of the said pencil has a cavity (6) or a projection (10), the said cavity (6) is selected from cylindrical (7) or conical (9) or threaded (8) shapes, the said projection is selected from cylindrical (11) or conical (13) or threaded (12) shapes, the said cavity (7,9,8) dimensionally matching the said projection (11, 13,12), the said pencil (1) having annular portion (4,5) square with the axis of the said pencil (1); - (b) an extension attachment (31,32,33) comprising a cylindrical body having a cavity (38) on one end and a projection (37) on the other end; the said cavity (38) selected from cylindrical, threaded (39) or conical (40) shapes; the said projection (37) selected from cylindrical or threaded (41) or conical (42) shapes, the said cavity dimensionally matching the said projection on the said extension attachment (31,32,33); the said cavity and the said projection of the said extension attachment (31,32,33) dimensionally matching the said projection (11,13,12) and the said cavity (7,9,8) of the said improved pencil (1), the said extension attachment having annular portion (36,35) square with the axis of the said extension attachment;.

This invention relates particularly to an improved pencil with a reusable extension attachment and more particularly this invention relates to an improved disposable pencil with a non-disposable extension attachment. A pencil is an instrument for writing and drawing that employs a solid marking substance, not a fluid as in pen, which is sharpemfon every use and finally shortens to a length of uncomfortable handling for writing or drawing purpose. As such the shortened piece of pencil rather the large nubs upto one third of the original pencil is thrown away due to its uncomfortable handling for writing or drawing purposes. To overcome these disadvantages the improvements have been made in the ordinary pencil but mainly resulting in mechanical pencils. The mechanical pencils introduced in the market mainly comrpises of a tubular casing with writing units. The writing units are made available in sharpened lead pieces also called as such cartridges supplied with tubular casing in a separate tubular holder or in a space provided for them in the main tubular casing at its rear end, or fitted in individual plastic casings which are placed one after the another in the main tubular casing. These arrangements have disadvantage that with sharpened lead cartridges used as writing units are supported only at the end where it projects out of the main tubular casing and consequently the writing unit is highly unstable and results in breakaway of cartridges finally resulting in wastage of such cartridges and hence making such arrangements highly uneconomical. The disadvantages of the type of pencil with alternate arrangements of individually packed lead cartridges in a plastic casing, which is the development to overcome the disadvantages of the above said arrangement, is that, if one of the writing units is lost or damaged, the remaining writing units conatained in the tubular casing will not be able to maintain the pencil assembly and as such the entire pencil becomes unusable. In another type of pencil the screw-stem mechanism is used which complicates the manufacturing technique and hence results in expensive pencil assembly. The main disadvantages of such available reusable pencils to over-come the drawbacks of wastage of lead component of the pencil are the increase in overall cost of the pencil due to the pencil assembly being unusable on either breakage of sharpened lead cartridges which are just thrown away or loss of anyone of the writing units, difficulty of introducing the cartridge units either from rear end or from front end of the pencil assembly and above all the increase in construction cost and maintenance cost because the spares of cartridge units are available at higher rates. The present invention relates to an improved pencil with useful and reusable extension attachment and improved pencil itself which is more particularly adopted to overcome the disadvantages of the prior art, which in turn is particularly the wastage of major portion of the writing unit due to its uncomfortable handling size. An object of the present invention is to provide a pencil with one end capable of holding the extension attachment for means to extend the length of used pencil. The another object of the present invention is to provide usable extension attachments to avoid the wastage of the pencil after two-third of the use. It is still another object of the present invention to provide a useful extension attachment to extend the length of the pencil and to make it comfortable for holding the same while in use for writing or drawings purpose. The present invention provides an improved disposable pencil after optimum use with useful and reusable extension attachment comprising a pencil with one end capable of receiving the extension attachment, which are easy and simplified to manufacture to reduce the cost of production and prevent the wastage of used portion of the pencil which is otherwise thrown away due to its uncomfortable size for secure handling while in use for writing or drawing purpose. The another important object of the present invention is to provide the extension attachment which can be further extended to desired length depending, on the size of a person's fingers/hand. This invention also provides a reusable extension attachment, wherein the said attachment can be unfolded to desired length while in use and folded while kept in pocket and is further provided with the device to securely hold the pencil in pocket which also avoids it to roll on to the flat surface and prevent the same from falling or being thrown out of the pocket. According to the another preferred object of the invention the extension attachment can also serve as casing for the pencil, which avoids the breaking away of the sharpened end of the pencil hence avoid the wastage of the lead component of the pencil and simultaneously serves to securely hold the pencil in the pocket when the same is not in use and gives it the attractive look of the pen. According to this invention there is provided an improved pencil with reusable extension attachment, adapted to extend the length of the said pencil, comprising of an improved pencil comprising a casing having lead along its axis characterized in that at least one end of the said pencil has a cavity or a projection, the said cavity is selected from cylindrical or conical or threaded shapes, the said projection is selected from cylindrical or conical or threaded shapes, the said cavity dimensionally matching the said projection, the said pencil having annular portion square with the axis of the said pencil; an extension attachment comprising a cylindrical body having a cavity on one end and a projection on the other end; the said cavity selected from cylindrical, threaded or conical shapes; the said projection selected from cylindrical or threaded or conical shapes, the said cavity dimensionally matching the said projection on the said extension attachment; the said cavity and the said projection of the said extension attachment dimensionally matching the said projection and the said cavity of the said improved pencil, the said extension attachment having annular portion square with the axis of the said extension attachment; Other objects and further applicability of the present invention will become more apparent when taken in conjunction with the accompanying drawings, which are not given with an intention to restrict the applicability of the present disclosures. Any modifications related to size and shape of the extension attachments or to their application or use with any such writing device are within the scope of the present invention. Fig. 1. is a longitudinal sectional view of the preferred embodiments of the pencil and extension attachments. Fig.2. is a longitudinal sectional view of the extendable extension attachment of one of the preferred embodiment according to the present invention. Fig. 3. is a longitudinal sectional view of the another extension attachment according to another preferred embodiment. Fig. 4. is a longitudinal sectional view of the foldable and unfoldable extension attachment according to another preferred embodiment of the present invention. Fig.5. is a longitudinal sectional view of the foldable and unfoldable extension attachment according to still another preferred embodiment of the present invention. Reference is now made to particularly to fig. 1, the writing instrument referred as pencil of the present invention mainly comprises of circular or angular body 1 carrying writing unit 2 within the casing 3 and two opposite flat ends 4 & 5. At least one end of these has a opening or female cavity 6 which is circular or angular in shape 7 or provided with internal threads 8, or is conical in shape 9 to receive the male projection 10 of such another pencil. The male projection 10 is either circular or angular in shape 11 or provided with external threads 12 or is of conical in shape 13 which securely fits in to the female cavity 6 on another & opposite end 4 of pencil 1. The size and shape of male projection 10 is same as that of female cavity 6 so that the flat end 5 of male projection sits accurately on the flat end 4 of female cavity when these are inter connected to increase the extension. The male projection 10 is of reduced or lesser diameter than that of the diameter of the main body 3 of the pencil 1. The another preferred embodiment of the present invention includes that the part 14, 15, 16 and 17, 18, 19 are fixed on to the flat ends 21 of the pencil 20. These parts have at least one flat end 22 which is fixed on to the flat end 21 of the pencil 20 and another opposite end is either provided with openings 23 circular or angular in shape 24, provided with threads, 25 provided with conical shape cavity 26 or with male projections 27, circular or angular male projection 28 or with external threads 29 or conical male projection 30. The extension parts 14, 15, 16 are fixed on one end serving as receiving ends for extension attachments and parts 17, 18, 19 are fixed on to the opposite end serving as male projections and as an extension attachment according to one of the preferred embodiment of the invention. These parts have same constructional features as that of extension part 4 serving as receiving end, and extension parts 5 serving as male projections according to another preferred embodiments. Now referring to fig. 2 wherein the extension attachments according to another preferred embodiment are 31, 32 & 33. These have circular or angular body 34 preferrably provided with knurrling which provides secure handling while screwing in or pushing in the extension attachment or while in writing, and two opposite ends 35 & 36. One end 35 has a male projection 37 of reduced diameter of the body 34 and is enxtended downward ending into a preferrably flat tip. The opposite end 36 comprises of opening 38 extended downward to depth of about 10-15mm, preferrably upto 10mm serving to receive part 37 of other such extension attachment 31. According to another preferred embodiment of this invention the opening on end 36 is provided with threads 39 or is of conical shape 40 and the male projection on opposite end 35 is provided with external threads 41 or is of conical in shape 42. The respective extension attachments 31, 32 & 33 can be pressed fit or screwed on to receiving ends 36 of such attachments. Fig.3. illustrates another preferred embodiment of the present invention wherein the extension attachments of another preferred embodiments 31, 32 & 33 according to fig. 2 can be fitted with a hang clip 43 which comprises of flat circular part 44 with a circular hole 45 to engage body part 50 of part 47, and of longitudinal body 46 which has inward extending part and engages with pocket. The part 47 called hang screw which securely fixes hang clip 43 on to the extension attachment 31, 32 or 33 has a flat disk shaped part 48 serving as guide while screwing in with two circular or angular parts 49 & 50 extending to opposite ends. The 49 is to serve for handling part 47 while screwing in or pressing fit the part 50 of part 47 in to the receiving end 36 with opening 38 of the extension attachment 31 or 32 or 33 to engage hang clip 43 through hole 45 of the circular body part 44. Fig. 4 illustrates another preferred embodiment of the present invention wherein the extension attachment comprises of a circular body 51 with internal cavity 52 of slightly higher diameter than that of pencil 1 and to securely and safely hold the pencil 1 to avoid breakage of sharpened end and two opposite ends wherein at least one end 53 ends in the male projection 54 of lesser diameter preferably provided with external threads and at least another end 55 is provided with female/internal threads 56 extending upto 10mm of depth to securely engage the externally threaded part 58 of bigger diameter of hang clip 57 according to preferred embodiment of the prsent invention. The pencil 1 is securely placed or screwed onto the externally threaded part 59 of lesser diameter of hang clig 57 through the end 36 having an opening 38 extending downward and provided with internal threads 39. The screwed on pencil 1 onto the part 59 of hang-clip 57 is securely placed in the internal cavity 52 of the casing 51 while not in use and is securely screwed on or pressed fit from it's flat end 36 through the opening 38 on to the male projection 54 of the casing 51 while in use so that the end 36 of pencil 1 rests onto the end 53 of the hang clip 57. The hang-clip comprises of longitudinal part 60 extending out and downwardly from circular body part 61, provided with externally threaded body part of bigger diameter 58, matching with the diameter of internal threads 56 and extending preferably upto 10 mm and of lesser diameter 59 matching with the diameter of internal cavity 39 and to externally threaded part 54 of the extension attachment named pencil casing 54 and extending downwardly preferably upto 10 mm of length. According to fig. 5 of the preferred embodiment of the present invention the extension attachment 62 comprises of accurately fitting parts 63 (fig 5a) , 64 (fig 5b) , 65 (fig 5c) , 66 (fig 5d) , 67 (fig 5e) , 68 (fig 5f) and 69 (fig 5g) . The part 63 named as connecting component comprises of flat circular disc form body 70 accurately sitting on to the flat end 4 of pencil 1 or 36 of pencil type 1, and serving as guide when screwed on to the said pencil 1. This disc 70 has rigidly connecting anchor 71 protruding from the side opposite to main body part 72 having opposite end to anchor 71 circular and flat in shape. The body part 72 snuggly fits into internal threads 76 of part 65 after passing through hole 73 of part 64. The body part 64 named safety clip, is provided with guide 74 which sits onto guide 70 of part 63 and it protects anchor 71 of part 63. The part 66 comprises of telescopic extension comprising legs 77, 78, 79 and 80. The first leg 77 perfectly holds 2nd leg 78 which in turn holds 3rd leg 79 so on when folded and kept in pocket and engaged through hang clip 68, which in turn comprises of circular body part 87 with opening 86 for engaging the hang screw 90 and longitudinal body part 89 serving to hold the pencil/extension attachment in the pocket and avoiding the falling out of the same from pocket and through part 67 named stopper comprising of the circular body part 84, the outer end serving as guide and controlling the engagement with last leg 80 of part 66 through female grooves 83 provided to avoid free rotation to part 67 and also comprises with internal threads 85 to securely engage the externally threaded body part 89 of anchor 69 which in turn comprises of head member 90, and giving the secure fitting for pencil/extension attachment in the pocket and giving it an attractive look of pen. As will be apparent, the present invention may be embodied in some other specific forms without departing from the spirit or essential characteristics there of. The present embodiments are therefore, to be considered in a respect as illustrative and not restricting the scope of the present invention being indicated by appended claims when read with foregoing description and accompanied drawings. Al changes what-so-ever which come within the scope, meaning or range cf the present invention are therefore intended to be part of this invention. I CLAIM; 1. An improved pencil with reusable extension attachment, adapted to extend the length of the said pencil, comprising of: (a) an improved pencil (1) comprising a casing (3) having lead (2) along its axis characterized in that at least one end (6,10,) of the said pencil has a cavity (6) or a projection (10), the said cavity(6) is selected from cylindrical (7) or conical (9) or threaded (8) shapes, the said projection is selected from cylindrical (11) or conical (13) or threaded (12) shapes, the said cavity (7,9,8) dimensionally matching the said projection (11,13,12), the said pencil (1) having annular portion (4,5) square with the axis of the said pencil (1); (b) an extension attachment (31,32,33) comprising a cylindrical body having a cavity (38) on one end and a projection (37) on the other end; the said cavity (38) selected from cylindrical, threaded (39) or conical (40) shapes; the said projection (37) selected from cylindrical or threaded (41) or conical (42) shapes, the said cavity dimensionally matching the said projection on the said extension attachment (31,32,33); the said cavity and the said projection of the said extension attachment (31,32,33) dimensionally matching the said projection (11,13,12) and the said cavity (7,9,8) of the said improved pencil (1), the said extension attachment having annular portion (36,35) square with the axis of the said extension attachment; 2. An improved pencil with reusable extension attachment as claimed in claim 1 wherein the said extension attachment (32) receives a hang-clip (46), which is fixed to the said extension attachment with a hang screw (49), the said hang clip (46) comprising a circular disc (44) having hole with a counter bore (45) and a longitudinal part (46); the said hang screw (49) comprising cylindrical portions (49,47) and a male threaded portion (50), the said male threaded portion (50) matching dimensionally with the said threaded cavity (39). 3. An improved pencil with reusable extension attachment as claimed in claim 1 wherein, the said pencil (20) has both ends (21) square with the axis of the said pencil; the said reusable extension attachments (22) comprising a cylindrical body (14,15,16) having cavity selected from cylindrical (24) or threaded (25) or conical (26) and having the end surface (22) square with the axis of the said body (14,15,16) and corresponding cylindrical body (17,18,19) having projection (28,29,30) dimensionally matching the said cavity (24,25,26) and having the end surface (22) square with the axis of the said body (17,18,19). 4. An improved pencil with reusable extension attachment as claimed in claim 1 wherein the reusable extension attachment comprises a cylindrical body (51) with internal cavity (52) of diameter slightly more than the diameter of the said pencil (1); the said body (51) having a projection (54) with external threads at least at one end and at least one end provided with female threads (56) matching the external threads (58) of hang clip (57), the said hang clip having threaded portion (59), the said external threads on the said projection (54) and the threaded portion (59) matching the threaded cavity (8,25,39) of the said pencil (1). 5. An improved pencil with reusable extension attachment as claimed in claim 1 wherein the reusable extension attachment is telescopic type comprising legs (77,78,79,80), a sleeve (83) with female threads (85), a hang clip (68) a part (64), a part (65) having female threads (76) and a part (63) with male threads (72) at one end, male threads (71) at the other end and a collar (70) in the intervening location, the said male threads (72) dimensionally matching, the said female threads (76) and the said male threads (71) dimensionally matching the said female threads (8,25,39) in the said cavity (6,23,38), the said hang clip (68) comprising ring (87), longitudinal member (88) and a screw (90) with male threads (89) dimensionally matching the said female threads (85) of the said sleeve (83); 6. An improved pencil with reusable extension attachment substantially as herein described and illustrated.
