Abstract	An economical process for the treatment of sodium cyanide plant waste and thereby producing sodium ferrocyanide decahydrate, Na4Fe(CN)6.10H2O, in high purity is described. Thus, the sodium cyanide plant waste containing 25 to 40 percent sodium cyanide is treated with a freshly prepared solution of ferrous chloride, in presence of an excess of caustic soda at 70-90°C, under vigorous stirring, in an inert atmos- phere, and the resulting solution is filtered to remove the insoluble impurities. The clear filtrate is then gradually cooled to crystallize out Na4Fe(CN)6.10H2O,' which is isolated by centrifuging, washing and drying and the filtrate after centrifuging is diluted with water then drained in the effluent channel. Na4Fe(CN)6.I0H2O thus obtained is of more than 99.8 percent purity and is completely free from cyanide.
