Title of Invention

"AN IMPROVED WRAPPER FEED MACHANISM FOR A WRAPPING MACHINE"

Abstract This invention relates to an improved wrapper feed mechanism wherein the said mechanism comprises of two belts (6) running close to the two edges of wrapper (7) and mounted over two pulleys (13, 14), characterized by the said belts having pores to allow suction to pass through them, two brackets (9) pivoted on shaft (8) at one end and mounted on freely rotating rollers (10) at the other end, a compression spring (11) to keep the said rollers (10) pressed against the suction and a corrugating lug (12) mounted on said shaft (8).
Full Text FIELD OF INVENTION
This invention relates to an improved wrapper feed mechanism for a wrapping machine.
PRIOR ART
Wrapper in a wrapping machine is pulled by means of pressure rollers (1). When wrapper made of thin plastic film or laminates of such films, is being pushed by the force of pull rollers, it needs to be supported as any obstruction or friction can cause it to buckle and jam. This problem is overcome by using suction belts (2) one on each side, having holes connected to suction and running parallel to the flow of wrapper. Wrapper sticks to the belts because of the suction and move forward thus supported. Wrapper passes through the cutting knives (3) and then through a slot (4) in the bed plates over which the product to be wrapped is conveyed.
A short coming of the above arrangement is that after the wrapper is freed from the suction belts (2), it is still limp and sometimes sticks to the cutting knives (3). Sometimes, it does not pass through the narrow slot (4) in the bed plates.
OBJECTS OF PRESENT INVENTION
An object of present invention is to provide an improved feed mechanism for a wrapping machine.
Another object of the present invention is to provide an improved feed mechanism for a wrapping machine wherein a corrugated lug corrugates the wrapper thereby creating sufficient stiffness in the wrapper to enable it to pass through the slot in bed plates.
Still another object of the present invention is to provide an improved feed mechanism for a wrapping machine wherein the improved mechanism prevents jamming of wrapper with the help of freely rotating rollers and corrugating lug.
STATEMEWT OF INVENTION
An improved wrapper feed mechanism for a wrapping machine wherein the said mechanism comprises of two belts running close to the two edges of wrapper and mounted over two pulleys the said belts having pores to allow suction to pass through them, two brackets pivoted on shaft at one end and mounted on freely rotating rollers at the other end, a compression spring to keep the said rollers pressed against the suction and a corrugating lug mounted on said shaft.
Description of Fipires:
The present invention will now be illustrated with drawings which are intended to illustrate an embodiment of the present invention and are not intended to be taken restrictively to imply any limitation on the scope of the present invention. In the accompan3ring drawings:-Fig. 1 :- shows the construction of wrapper feed mechanism as
known in the art. Fig. 2 :- shows the construction of improved wrapper feed
mechanism as per the present invention.
DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION w.r.t. DRAWINGS
Referring to fig. 2, the improved wrapper feed mechanism of the present invention mainly overcomes the problem of the presently known wrapper feed mechanism wherein the wrapper after it is freed from the suction belts, gets stuck sometimes, to the cutting knives and does not pass through the narrow slot in the bed plates. The mechanism of the present invention overcomes the above problem by creating stiffness in the wrapper by corrugating or curving the surface of the wrapper. The improved mechanism of the present invention comprises of two belts (6) running close to the two edges of wrapper (7) and mounted over the two pulleys (13, 14). The said two belts (6) have small pores that allow suction to pass through them. Due to this suction, the said belts (6) grip the wrapper from the two edges. A fixed pivot shaft (8) is mounted at the required position. Two brackets (9) are free to pivot on shaft (8). One end of these brackets, is mounted on freely rotating rollers (10) which keep the wrapper pressed against the suction belts with spring force of the compression spring (11). This provides positive propulsion to the wrapper. A corrugating lug (12) is mounted on the said pivot shaft (8)
and can be fixed in any position to provide requisite corrugation to the wrapper. The position of the said corrugating lug (12) is kept somewhere in the middle of the wrapper where it is not supported at the back. The grip of spring loaded rollers (10) does not allow the wrapper to jam because of the resistance caused by the said corrugating lug (12). After corrugation, wrapper gets enough stiffness to overcome resistance/friction on its path and enable it pass through the slot in the bed plates.
It is to be understood that the present invention is susceptible to modifications, adaptations, changes by those skilled in the art. Such variant embodiments are intended to the within the scope of the present invention which is further set forth under the following claims:-

I CLAIM:
1. An improved wrapper feed mechanism wherein the said mechanism comprises
of two belts (6) running close to the two edges of wrapper (7) and mounted over
two pulleys (13, 14), characterized by the said belts having pores to allow
suction to pass through them, two brackets (9) pivoted on shaft (8) at one end
and mounted on freely rotating rollers (10) at the other end, a compression
spring (1 1) to keep the said rollers (10) pressed against the suction and a
corrugating lug (1 2) mounted on said shaft (8).
