Full Text | FORM 2 THE PATENTS ACT 1970 (39 of 1970) & THE PATENTS RULES, 2003 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION (See Section 10; rule 13) TITLE OF THE INVENTION EGR COOLER, EGR VALVE & WATER DISTRIBUTION RAIL ASSEMBLY AND MOUNTING ARRANGEMENT THEREOF ON ENGINE APPLICANTS TATA MOTORS LIMITED, an Indian company having its registered office at Bombay House, 24 Homi Mody Street, Hutatma Chowk, Mumbai 400 001 Maharashtra, India INVENTOR Samrendra Nath Mishra an Indian National of TATA MOTORS LIMITED, an Indian company having its registered office at Bombay House, 24 Homi Mody Street, Hutatma Chowk, Mumbai 400 001 Maharashtra, India PREAMBLE TO THE DESCRIPTION The following specification particularly describes the invention and the manner in which it is to be performed. FIELD OF INVENTION This invention relates to internal combustion engine and more particularly this relates to EGR Cooler, EGR Valve & Water Distribution Rail assembly and mounting arrangement thereof on engine. BACKGROUND OF INVENTION Water distribution rail is used to circulate coolant to various ports of engine for cooling. Water distribution rail is connected to coolant ports of the cylinder head and EGR cooler is used to cool EGR gases using coolant. These cooled EGR gases are used along with intake air to control emission. The Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve mounting is integrated along with the EGR cooler on the hot steam side. Conventionally, separate mountings are provided for mounting EGR cooler, EGR valve & water distribution rail. Conventionally water distribution rail is having round shape for coolant flow & it is mounted on cylinder head ports & EGR coolers are mounted separately. Coolant flows through hoses & pipes from water distribution rail to EGR cooler & EGR valve. In such cases, the number of mountings, overall weight & dimensions of the engine compartment increase. Separate mountings for EGR cooler, EGR valve & water distribution rail and the complication of too many ports and other components gives rise to manufacturing, assembly & servicing problems. Thus to overcome the aforementioned deficiencies it is desirable to provide a common mounting for the EGR cooler, EGR valve & the water distribution rail.In order to overcome the above drawbacks the said invention is devised. OBJECTS OF INVENTION The main object of this invention is to provide EGR Cooler, EGR Valve & Water Distribution Rail assembly and mounting arrangement thereof on engine. Yet another object of this invention is to provide EGR Cooler, EGR Valve & Water Distribution Rail assembly and mounting arrangement thereof on engine which is light in weight, compact in nature & ease of assembly. Yet another object of this invention is to provide EGR Cooler, EGR Valve & Water Distribution Rail assembly and mounting arrangement thereof on engine which is simple in construction and cost effective. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION EGR Cooler, EGR Valve & Water Distribution Rail assembly in accordance with this invention basically comprises of water distribution rail, EGR cooler, EGR valve, EGR pipes, Plurality of coolant hoses, Plurality of connecting pipes, clamps and fasteners. Wherein said water distribution rail is preferably having rectangular cross section and is provided with plurality of ribs on its outer surface to provide additional strength. Said water distribution rail is provided with plurality of through holes adopted to mount directly on the cylinder head of an engine. Said rail is provided with plurality of openings for coolant inflow and an opening for coolant flow to EGR cooler. Said rail is also provided with plurality of tapped openings to accommodate the mounting fasteners of EGR cooler. Said EGR cooler is provided with plurality of through holes on its outer surface for its mounting. Said EGR cooler is provided with tapped opening at one end to accommodate EGR valve and other end is also provided with tapped opening for mounting EGR pipe. Said EGR valve is mounted on EGR cooler. Said Water Distribution Rail is mounted on cylinder head of engine through the mounting fasteners. EGR cooler EGR valve and EGR pipe assembly is mounted on said water distribution rail through mounting fasteners. Said coolant hoses and pipes are connected between water distribution to EGR valve and from EGR valve to exit. Said coolant connecting pipe is supported through clamps. This arrangement helps in reducing the number of components used for mountings, sub-assemblies, water distribution rail, EGR valve & EGR cooler. The rectangular shape of water distribution rail is designed to compact space without compromising the flow dynamics & pressure drop. This provides compact space to integrate EGR cooler mounting along with water distribution rail for an internal combustion engine. O-ring sealing is provided between EGR cooler coolant inlet & the water distribution rail. This reduces the additional flange mountings & assembly. EGR valve mounted on the hot steam side & mounting is integrated to EGR Cooler. The coolant inlet is connected from water distribution rail & out let is connected to the EGR cooler coolant outlet. A Water distribution rail used for coolant flow, is mounted on Engine with the help of mounting bolts to circulate coolant through the engine, EGR valve & EGR cooler. Coolant then passes to the cylinder head in the opening provided and reaches the water distribution rail. From the water distribution rail, plurality of branches is connected to the top water jacket of the cylinder head. Thus coolant from the water distribution rail is uniformly divided and fed into the cylinder head so that all the individual cylinders are uniformly cooled. EGR cooler is used to cool exhaust gases, which will be re-circulating to the engine along with the intake air, is mounted on the water distribution rail with the help of mounting bolts. Mounting for EGR valve is integrated with EGR cooler & the coolant inlet is connected through hose between EGR valve & water distribution rail. The coolant outlet from EGR valve is connected to EGR cooler outlet with the help of the tube. Coolant from water distribution rail is fed to the EGR cooler & the outlet is connected to the thermostat. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS The accompanying drawings, which are incorporated in and constitute a part of this specification, illustrate one or more embodiment of the invention and, together with the description, explain the invention. DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS Referring now to the drawings wherein the showings are for the purpose of illustrating a preferred embodiment of the invention only, and not for the purpose of limiting the same, Referring to figs. 1 to 6 EGR Cooler, EGR Valve & Water Distribution Rail assembly in accordance with this invention basically comprises of water distribution rail (1), EGR cooler (2), EGR valve (3), EGR pipes (10), Plurality of coolant hoses (6,9), Plurality of connecting pipes (7), clamps (8) and fasteners (4, 5). Wherein said water distribution rail (1) is preferably having rectangular cross section (11) and is provided with plurality of ribs (12) on its outer surface to provide additional strength. Said water distribution rail is provided with plurality of through holes (13) adopted to mount directly on the cylinder head of an engine. Said rail is provided with plurality of openings for coolant inflow (14) and an opening (15) for coolant flow to EGR cooler (2). Said water distribution rail (1) is also provided with plurality of tapped openings (16) to accommodate the mounting fasteners (5) of EGR cooler (2). Said EGR cooler (2) is provided with plurality of through holes (17) on its outer surface for its mounting. Said EGR cooler is provided with tapped opening at one end to accommodate EGR valve and other end is also provided with tapped opening for mounting EGR pipe. Said EGR valve (3) is mounted on EGR cooler (2). Said Water Distribution Rail (1) is mounted on cylinder head (18) of engine through the mounting fasteners (4). EGR cooler, EGR valve and EGR pipe assembly is mounted on said water distribution rail (1) through mounting fasteners (5). Said coolant hoses (6, 9) and pipes (7) are connected between water distribution rail to EGR valve and from EGR valve to exit. Said coolant connecting pipe is supported through clamps (8). Water distribution rail (1) used for coolant flow, is mounted on Engine with the help of mounting bolts (4) to circulate coolant through the engine, EGR valve (3) & EGR cooler (2). Coolant then passes to the cylinder head in the opening provided and reaches the water distribution rail (1). From the water distribution rail, four branches are connected to the top water jacket of the cylinder head. Thus coolant from the water distribution rail (1) is uniformly divided and fed into the cylinder head so that all the individual cylinders are uniformly cooled. EGR cooler (2) is used to cool exhaust gases, which will be re-circulating to the engine along with the intake air, is mounted on the water distribution rail with the help of mounting bolts (5). Mounting for EGR valve (3) is integrated with EGR cooler (2) & the coolant inlet is connected through hose (6) between EGR valve (3) & water distribution rail (1). The coolant outlet from EGR valve is connected to EGR cooler outlet with the help of the pipe (7), clamp (8) & hoses (9). Coolant from water distribution rail (1) is fed to the EGR cooler (2) & the outlet is connected to the thermostat. As shown in Fig.3 water from engine enters to the water distribution rail (1), goes to the EGR valve (3) through rubber hose (6). EGR valve water outlet pipe (7) is mounted on EGR cooler (2) with the help of clamps (8) & hoses (9) to the thermostat housing. From this it re-circulates to engine. Water inlet opening for EGR cooler is connected to the water distribution rail with the help of opening provided on the surface of water distribution rail & EGR cooler. This whole assembly is mounted on engine cylinder head with the help of plurality of mounting bolts (4), which are passing through EGR cooler & water distribution rail. The foregoing description is a specific embodiment of the present invention. It should be appreciated that this embodiment is described for purpose of illustration only, and that numerous alterations and modifications may be practiced by those skilled in the art without departing from the spirit and scope of the invention. It is intended that all such modifications and alterations be included insofar as they come within the scope of the invention as claimed or the equivalents thereof. WE CLAIM 1. An EGR Cooler, EGR Valve & Water Distribution Rail assembly comprises of water distribution rail (1), EGR cooler (2), EGR valve (3), EGR pipes (10), plurality of coolant hoses (6, 9), plurality of connecting pipes (7), clamps (8) and fasteners (4, 5), said water distribution rail is provided with plurality of through holes (17) adopted to mount directly on the cylinder head (18) of an engine, said water distribution rail (1) is provided with plurality of openings (14) for coolant inflow and an opening (15) for coolant flow to said EGR cooler (2), said water distribution rail (1) is provided with plurality of tapped openings (16) to accommodate the mounting fasteners (5) of said EGR cooler (2), said EGR cooler (2) is mounted on said water distribution rail (1), one end of said EGR cooler is provided with said EGR valve (3) and other end is provided with tapped opening for mounting said EGR pipes (10). 2. The EGR Cooler, EGR Valve & Water Distribution Rail assembly as claimed in claim 1, wherein said water distribution rail (1) is mounted on cylinder head (18) of engine through fasteners (4), said EGR cooler (2), EGR valve (3) and EGR pipe (10) assembly is mounted on said water distribution rail (1) through fasteners (4, 5), coolant hoses (6) and pipes (10) are connected between said water distribution rail (1) to the EGR valve (3) and from the EGR valve (3) to exit of said EGR cooler (2). 3. The EGR Cooler, EGR Valve & Water Distribution Rail assembly as claimed in claims 1 and 2, wherein said water distribution rail (1) is preferably having a rectangular cross section (11). 4. The EGR Cooler, EGR Valve & Water Distribution Rail assembly as claimed in claims 1 to 3, wherein said, water distribution rail (1) is provided with plurality of ribs (12) on its outer surface to provide additional strength. 5. The EGR Cooler, EGR Valve & Water Distribution Rail assembly as claimed in claims 1 to 4, wherein said EGR cooler (2) is provided with plurality of through holes (17) on its outer surface for its mounting. 6. The EGR Cooler, EGR Valve & Water Distribution Rail assembly as claimed in claims 1 to 5, wherein said EGR cooler (2) is provided with tapped openings at both end to accommodate said EGR valve (3) and EGR pipes (10). 7. The EGR Cooler, EGR Valve & Water Distribution Rail assembly as claimed in claims 1 to 6, wherein said coolant connecting pipe (7) is supported through clamps (8). 8. The EGR Cooler, EGR Valve & Water Distribution Rail assembly as claimed in claims 1 to 7, wherein O-ring sealing is provided between EGR cooler coolant inlet and the water distribution rail (1). 9. The EGR Cooler, EGR Valve & Water Distribution Rail assembly as claimed in claims 1 to 8, wherein said EGR valve (3) mounting is integrated to EGR cooler (2) on the hot steam side.. |
