Full Text FIELD OF INVENTION
This invention relates to a decantation fuel filtration system. By way of example but without any limitation thereto, the filtration system of this invention may advantageously be employed at a retail outlet, such as a petrol pump.
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION
One of the disadvantageous associated in existing systems at a petrol pump is that means are not provided for a customer to determine as to whether the fuel being filled into a vehicle contains contaminants, which may be solid contaminants or water.
Further, filtration systems require a constant replacement which adds to the end cost of the system.
OBJECTS OF THE INVENTION
An object of this invention is to propose an improved construction of a decantation fuel filtration system.
Another object of this invention is to propose an improved construction of a decantation fuel filtration system which obviates the disadvantages associated with those of the prior art.
Still another object of this invention is to propose an improved construction of a decantation fuel filtration system which is efficient.
Yet another object of this invention is to propose an improved construction of a decantation fuel filtration system which does not require a constant replacement.
A further object of this invention is to propose an improved construction of a decantation fuel filtration system which can be installed at a petrol station.
DESCRIPTION OF INVENTION
According to this invention there is provided a decantation fuel filtration system (15) comprising:-
i) a fuel filter housing (16) with an inlet (4) for introduction of the fuel to be filtered and a fuel outlet for discharge of filtered fuel,
ii) a fuel flow path within said housing,
iii) a strainer (18) for removal of solid contaminants above a predetermined size disposed within said housing, characterized in that
iv) a water separator (19) disposed within said housing and at a location in the fuel flow path subsequent to that of the strainer,
v) said water separator (19) having a flow of fuel from outside to inside,
vi) the fuel outlet (12) being in flow communication with the inside of said water separator (19),
vii) a water outlet (14) at the base of said housing.
In accordance with this invention, an upper cap member is held to said housing, said inlet provided with the cap member.
The strainer for removal of the solid contaminants above a predetermined size comprises an inner perforated tube spaced from an outer perforated tube wrapped with stainless steel mesh, a pressure plate at one end with the opposite end in flow communication with said inlet.
The partially filtered fuel with the required solid contaminants flows into the housing and then flows into the water separator with a fuel flow of outside to inside.
The water separator comprises an outer perforated tube spaced from the inner spaced tube, a mesh wrapped on said outer perforated tube and being a teflon coated mesh. The mesh has a contact angle 112 to 125° and a surface energy 15 to 25.
The outer perforated tube has spaced holes of 3.5 to 4.5 mm diameter. The inner perforated tube has spaced holes with a diameter of 2.0 to 3.5 mm.
DESCRIPTION WITH REFERENCE TO DRAWINGS
Further objects and advantages of this invention will be more apparent from the ensuing description when read in conjunction with the accompanying drawings and wherein :-Fig. 1 shows a side sectional view of the water separator.
Referring to Fig. 1 the decantation fuel filtration system 15 of the present invention comprises a housing 16 having a coating of epoxv resin on the inner surface. Cap member 17 is held to housing 16 through a fastening arrangement comprising a bolt 5 and nut 1 and ring 6. Cap member 17 has an air relief valve 2 and a handle 3.
Cap member 17 has a fuel inlet 4 in flow communication with a strainer 18 disposed within housing 16.
Strainer 18 comprises an inner perforated tube 19 spaced from an outer perforated tube 9 with a pressure plate 10 at one end, the opposite end being in flow communication with inlet 4. Fuel flowing from inlet 4 is filtered by strainer 18 and then flows into housing 16.
The fuel filtered from solid contaminants flows from outside into inside of water separator 19. Separator 19 comprises an outer perforated tube 20 with a teflon coating mesh 21 wrapped on said outer perforated tube said mesh 21 being a teflon coated mesh. The mesh has a contact angle 112 to 125° and a surface energy 15 to 25.
The outer perforated tube has spaced holes of 3.5 to 4.5 mm diameter. The inner perforated tube has spaced holes with a diameter of 2.0 to 3.5 mm.
Housing 16 has mounting legs 11 with a fuel outlet 12. Housing 6 has a water collector 13 with a water drain valve 14.
