Title of Invention

"AN IMPROVED CONSTRUCTION OF A CRANE"

Abstract This invention relates to an improved construction of a crane comprising of a front and rear chassis with an articulation means provided therebetween wherein an operator cabin is provided on the front chassis, on which a boom is mounted and engine and transmission system is disposed on the rear chassis.
Full Text FIELD OF INVENTION
This invention relates to an improved construction of a crane. In particular, this invention relates to a pick and carry crane in distinction to a crane having props for supporting the load.
BACKGROUND OF INVENTION
Pick and carry cranes are supported on tyres in distinction to cranes which have a pair of front and rear props. A disadvantage associated with pick and carry cranes having the tyres to support the load is the limitation in the load bearing capacity of tyres. Further, in the known construction of such pick and carry cranes, the driver cabin was provided on the rear chassis. The disadvantage of providing the driver cabin on the rear chassis is that there was a substantial overhang, and whereby the crane had to driven at low speeds. It is for this reason that the engine transmission system was provided for only such low speed of the venicle. Further, the load had a tendency to damage the life cylinders when the load is in a lifted position.

OBJECTS OF INVENTION
An object of this invention is to propose an improved construction of a pick and carry crane.
Another object of this invention is to propose an improved construction of a pick and carry crane which obviates the disadvantages associates with the prior art and referred to hereinabove.
Yet another object of this invention is to propose an improved construction of a pick and carry crane which no longer has the disadvantage of an overhang.
Still another object of this invention is to propose an improved construction of a pick and carry crane which can now travel at speeds faster than the known pick and carry cranes.

A further object of this invention is to propose an improved construction of a pick and carry crane which is short and compact to enable an easy movement on city roads.
A still further object of this invention is to propose an improved construction of a pick an carry c -ane which is efficient.
Further objects and advantages of this invention will be more apparent from the ensuing des:ription.
STATEMENT OF THE INVENTION
According to this invention there is provided an improved construction of a crane comprising of a front and rear chassis with an articulation means provided therebetween wherein an operator cabin is provided on the front chassis, on which a boom is mounted and engine and transmission system is disposed on the rear chassis.

BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE ACCOMPANYING DRAWING:
Further objects and advantages of this invention will be more apparent from the ensuing description when read in conjunction with the accompanying drawing and wherein:
Fig. 1 shows: the line diagram of the present invention.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION WITH REFERENCE TO ACCOMPANYING DRAWINGS: -
In accordance with the present invention and with particular reference to fig. 1, the pick and carry crane comprises a front and rear chassis (1 and 2) wita articulation means (3) provided therebetween. The articulation means is provided along the vertical axis for traversing over rough terrain.

Such articulation means may be way of example be as disclosed in patent application no. 2656/Del/98.
In distinction to the known art, the operator cabin is now provided on the front chassis and the boom (4) is also mounted on the front chassis.
Several distinct advantages arise by such a construction of a pick and carry crane. One such advantage is that the overhang is reduced considerably provihing thereby a better field of vision for an operator to drive the vehicle. Thus, the vehicle can now be driven at a faster speed. Yet another advantage is that as the engine (5) and transmission system is provided on the rear chassis, it acts as a counter weight for lifting of the boom. Thus, the weight and volume of the counter weight normally provided for the boom is reduced.

As described, herein above, the engine and transmission system is provided with the rear chassis. The drive is to the rear axle. However, as the engine in mounted in the rearward direction, an auxiliary gear box is provided in addition to the main gear box (6) for reversing the direction of transmission from the main gear box.
In accordance with one embodiment of this invention, a pair of front props is provided with the ront chassis. The incorporation of a pair of front props increases the load bearing capacity of the crane.
Still further, and in accordance with yet another embodiment of this invention, a drag or pulling (8) which may be provided with the front chassis.
ADVANTAGES OF THE INVENTION
1. Clear visibility on front and sides for load handling.

2. Improved clear outreach for load.
3. Safety of lift cylinders.
4. Additional support to the boom due to mounting of winch on structure instead of on boom as normally done on pick and carry cranes.
5. Easy lifting of load along with pulling/dragging with the provision of Drag winch along with manual outriggers.
6. Articulation with link assembly for rough terrain application.
It is to be noted that the present invention is susceptible to modifications, adaptations and changes by those skilled in the art. Such variant embodiments employing the concepts and features of this invention are intended to be within the scope of the present invention, which is further set forth under the following claims: -

We claim:
1. An improved construction of a crane, particularly a tyre based Pick and Carry
crane, is characterized by a front chassis (1) and a rear chassis (2), duly engaged and integrated together with an articulation means (3) provided therebetween; wherein the front chassis (1) mainly comprises of an operator cabin (10), the mounting of the boom assembly (4) through the lift cylinders (9), the front pair of out riggers (pair of front props) (11), and the drag or pulling winch (8); and wherein the rear chassis (2) mainly comprises of the engine & the transmission system (5) including the auxiliary gear-box (7); and wherein the said improved construction of the said crane is further oharacterized by enhanced balance, vision and speed and considerably reduced overhang, particularly during its functioning.
2. An improved construction of a crane as claimed in claim 1, wherein the engine and the transmission system (5) is provided at rearward side of the rear chassis (2) and the drive is to the rear axle (16), wherein the an auxiliary gear box (7) is configured in the drive line in addition to the main gear box (6) in such a manner that the driver in the driver's cabin (10) at the front chassis (1) operates the said crane.
3. An improved construction of a crane as claimed in claim 1 or 2, wherein a pair of front props (out riggers) (11) is provided at the front side of the front chassis (1).
4. An improved construction of a crane as claimed in any of the preceding claims wherein the front chassis (1) is provided with a drag or pulling winch (8).
