Full Text | This mvention relates to an improvement in lighting circuit for two and three wheelers and other motor vehicles to which this invention is applicable. In the conventional lighting circuit for any known two or three wheeled power driven vehicles the AC output from the magneto of the engme is fed to a rectifier and a regulator. The rectifier rectifies the AC voltage to DC voltage through the ignition s^witch for charging the battery, operating the horn and other coniDonents a. of the vehicle. The regulator maintains a predetermined regulated voltage to feed the lamps such as headlamps, tail lamps and other components of the vehicle through a control switch- The regulator maintains the voltage irrespective of whether the lamps and other such components are in ON or OFF condition. This results in continuous power loss in the circuit during day time running, causing loss in fuel economy. Furthermore the heat dissipation of the regulator will be more resulting in poor reliability, it is therefore an object of the present invention to solve the above problems by providing an improvement in the lighting circuit which will eliminate the power loss and heat dissipation when the lights are not used, that is, when the lights are not switched on. The improved lighting circuit for two and three wheelers, according to this invention, comprises a magneto driven by the engine; a rectifier circuit and a regulator circuit connected to the magneto and to the load, the said rectifier circuit and the regulator circuit being connected in parallel, the rectifier circuit being connected through the ignition switch to a first part of the load while the regulator circuit is connected through a control switch to the second part of the load, characterised in that a control switch is located between the magneto and the regulator circuit, said control switch connecting the magneto to the regulator circuit for switching ON and OFF the regulator circuit. Reference will now be made to the accompanying drawings the single Figure in which illustrates, by way of example and not by way of limitation, the circuit diagram of one of various possible embodiments of this invention. The lighting circuit comprises a magneto M which is connected by any known means to the engine E. AC output of the magneto M is fed to a rectifier R which converts to DC output for charging the battery B and operating the horn HR through the horn switch HS. The AC output is also fed into aregulator RE through a switch HL to the lamps such as headlamps H. tail lamps T So according to the present invention the regulator RE will supply regulated predetermined^to the lamps H and T only when the switch HL is in the ON condition. During day time when the switch HL is in OFF condition the regulator RE will not function thereby eliminating power loss during day time running,. We Claim : !. A improved lighting circuit for two and three wheelers, comprising a magneto driven by the engine; arectifier circuit and a regulator circuit connected to the magneto and to the load, the said rectifier circuit and the regulator circuit being connected in parallel, the rectifier circuit being connected through the ignition switch to a first part of the load while the regulator circuit is connected through a control switch to the second part of the load, characterised in that a control switch is located between the magneto and the regulator circuit, said control switch connecting the magneto to the regulator circuit for switching ON and OFF the regulator circuit. 2. An improved lighting circuit for a two or three wheeler motor vehicle substantially as herein described with reference to and as illustrated in the accompanying drawings. |
