Title of Invention

A CHIP SEALER VEHICLE WITH A COMBINED AGGREGATE BIN

Abstract Synchronized chip sealer vehicle includes a truck chassis, an asphalt tank, a chip hopper, an asphalt spraying system, and a chip spreading system. The combined aggregate bin includes two parts: a stationary hopper and a moveable bin, which are connected by using a rotating shaft. The lift mechanism is connected to the bottom of the moveable bin. The chip sealer vehicle does not utilize the traditional dumping method used by conventional chip sealer vehicles by raising the entire hopper body for dumping. Therefore, the chip sealer vehicle can properly work under height- restricted conditions, such as when under an overpass, cable lines, or inside tunnels. In addition, its center of gravity also is moved forward to ensure a more safer and stable drive condition. Moreover, the hopper can also be designed to be bigger for meeting specific requirements.
Full Text BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to a road maintenance equipment, and in
particularly, to a hopper system for a chip sealer vehicle.
The Prior Arts
For the sake of progress and economic development of society, transportation now
plays a very important role in every part of our lives. A good road pavement
structure usually consists of subgrade, prime coat, seal coat, hot mix asphalt
(HMA), and surface course. The seal coat and the surface course application
procedures are vital to the pavement quality. Synchronized surface dressing
technology is the latest technology. The asphalt and the chips are sprayed and
spreaded at the same time to achieve a maximum surface wrappage to the chips for
improving wearability, skid resistance, water-proofing, and consequently
prolonging the road's service life, and achieving cost reductions. The chip sealer
vehicle utilizing synchronized surface dressing technology is currently the more
advanced system used today. In Europe, above 95% road pavements have adopted
this synchronized technology and machinery; the chip sealer vehicle includes a
truck chassis, an asphalt tank, a hopper, an asphalt spraying system, and a chip
spreading system. During use, the asphalt system sprays the asphalt
simultaneously as the hopper raises one end to dump the chips under the control
of the chip spreading system. When the hopper is raised to a 45°angle in order to
completely dump the chips, the center of gravity is shifted to the back, and is
normally led to weight imbalance and thus creating trouble during driving. On the
other hand, the raised hopper during operation has a relatively substantial height;
therefore, it is also not suitable for used under overpass, cable lines, or inside
tunnels.

SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
The chip sealer vehicle according to the present invention overcomes the
shortcomings of the existing synchronized surface dressing equipments to provide
a safer drive, and a broader application range to more construction sites.
The present invention improves upon the hopper system of the traditional chip
sealer vehicle. The hopper, according to the present invention, comprises a
two-part hopper system, which includes a stationary hopper and a moveable bin.
The moveable bin is placed inside the stationary hopper; and they are movably
connected by a rotating shaft. At the bottom of the movable bin, the moveable bin
is connected to the lift mechanism.
Usually, the moveable bin is placed at the bottom of the stationary hopper. During
use, chips are loaded to the hopper; and the truck is driven to the construction site.
Later, the chip spreading system is then started. The chips inside the stationary
hopper ar3e dumped to the chip spreader. As the stationary hopper is approaching
empty, the lift mechanism is actuated, and the moveable bin is raised to dump the
chips into the stationary hopper slowly until the moveable bin is empty. At the
same time, the asphalt is sprayed to the road.
The advantage of the present invention is that it changes the dumping method for
the aggregate hopper of raising the entire hopper body. The chip sealer vehicle
according to the present invention can work in reduced headroom. In addition, its
center of gravity is also moved forward to ensure a safer and more stable drive.
Moreover, the hopper can be designed to be bigger for meeting specific
requirments of the user.
The chip sealer vehicle according to the present invention can be used for the seal
coat, surface course, anti-wear material paving, layer paving, and the spraying or

spreading of asphalt and chips under certain specialized circumstances,
respectively. It is suitable for use for various grades of road construction, with good
quality and high efficiency.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE EMBODIMENT
The illustration of the present invention are provided in conjunction with
schematic diagrams hereafter:
A chip sealer vehicle according to an embodiment of the present invention
comprises of a truck chassis 1, an asphalt tank 2, a stationary hopper 34, a
moveable bin 33, a lift mechanism 32, an asphalt spraying system 4, and a chip
spreading system 5. The "dustpan" shaped moveable bin 33 is disposed inside the
stationary hopper 34, in which the front and top portions are open (as shown in
4

Fig.3). The moveable bin 33 is movably connected to the stationary hopper 34 by
using the rotating shaft 35. And one end of the lift mechanism 32 (the main part of
the lift mechanism 32 is a hydraulic ram seat 31) is connected to the bottom of the
moveable bin 33. The other end of the hydraulic ram is movably connected to the
hydraulic ram seat 31 disposed at the side beam fixed on the chassis 1. The asphalt
spraying system 4 and the chip spreading system 5 are located at the lower back
portion of the stationary hopper 3.

WE CLAIM:
1. A chip sealer vehicle, comprising:
a truck chassis (l);
an asphalt tank (2);
a combined aggregate bin (3);
an asphalt spraying system (4); and
a chip spreading system (5), wherein the combined aggregate bin (3) is comprised
of a stationary hopper (34) and a moveable bin (33); the moveable bin (33) is
disposed inside the stationary hopper (34). the moveable bin (33) is connected to
the stationary hopper (34) by using the rotating shaft (35), and one end of the lift
mechanism (32) is connected to the bottom of the moveable bin.
6
2. The chip sealer vehicle as claimed in claim 1, wherein the lift mechanism (32) is
a hydraulic ram, and one end of the hydraulic ram is connected to the bottom of
the moveable bin (33), and the other end of the hydraulic ram is connected to the
hydraulic ram seat (31) disposed at a side beam which is fixed on the chassis (1).

Synchronized chip sealer vehicle includes a truck chassis, an asphalt tank, a
chip hopper, an asphalt spraying system, and a chip spreading system. The
