The present invention relates to a waterproof structure of a.meter panel for a vehicle, and more particularly, to a waterproof structure for fixing a member on a surface of the meter panel with a plug without breaking waterproof of the meter panel. [Background Art]

As a technology for mounting an object to be mounted, such as a decorative plate or a light guide plate, on a surface of a meter panel for a vehicle, the technology using a plug that passes through the object to be mounted and also through the meter panel is disclosed in Patent Document 1.

In the above-described related technology, since the plug passes not only through the object to be mounted, such as a decorative plate, but also through the meter panel to reach the inside of the meter panel, there has been a technical problem that there is a strong possibility that raindrops, or the like, on the surface of the meter panel enter the meter panel through a through hole of the plug.

Accordingly, it is an object of the present invention to provide a waterproof structure for ensuring the waterproof property of a meter unit and fixing a member to be mounted, such as a decorative plate, on the surface of a meter panel with a plug in order to address the above-described problem in the related art. In order to accomplish the above-mentioned object, the present invention is characterized in that a waterproof structure of a meter panel for a vehicle is provided with the following means:
(1) The waterproof structure is characterized by including
a meter panel, a member to be mounted on an exposed surface of the meter panel, a bottomed through hole bored in the exposed surface of the meter panel, and a plug inserted into the through hole of the meter panel through the member to be mounted.
(2) The waterproof structure is characterized in that the through hole is formed inside a columnar protrusion protruding on an unexposed surface side of the meter panel, in a recessed shape from an exposed surface side thereof.
(3) The waterproof structure is characterized in that the meter panel is provided with an opening portion for mounting a meter window, and a panel support portion erected at either edge portion on the unexposed surface side of the opening portion for supporting the meter window mounted on the opening portion, and in that the columnar protrusion and the panel support portion are separately arranged.
(4) The waterproof structure is characterized in that the

member to be mounted is plate-like and a flange for positioning the member to be mounted at an outer peripheral portion thereof is formed on the exposed surface of the meter panel.
(5) The waterproof structure is characterized in that the plug is an external thread and a tap is applied to an inner face of the through hole. [Effect of the Invention] [0006]
According to the present invention, the following effects are achieved:
(1) The through hole of the meter panel into which the plug is inserted is formed in a bottomed shape, and the exposed surface side and unexposed surface side of the meter panel are prevented from communicating with each other through the through hole, thereby preventing entry of raindrops into the meter panel through the through hole. Therefore, even when an-object to be mounted is mounted on the exposed surface of the meter panel by using the plug, waterproofing of the meter panel can be maintained.
(2) Since the through hole is formed inside the columnar protrusion protruding on the unexposed surface side of the meter panel in the recessed shape from the exposed surface side thereof, it is possible to ensure the bottomed through hole without the need to increase the thickness of the meter panel.
(3) The columnar protrusion in which the through hole is formed, and the panel support portion are separately arranged. Therefore, flexibility may be provided to the through hole formed in the columnar protrusion, thereby leaving room for an allowable deviation between the diameter of the plug and the inner diameter

of the through hole.
(4) The flange for positioning the member to be mounted at an outer peripheral portion thereof is provided on the exposed surface of the meter panel. Thus, it is possible to perform positioning of the member to be mounted on the exposed surface of the meter panel by using both of the flange and the plug.
(5) Since the plug is an external thread and the tap is applied to the inner face of the through hole, the plug can be surely screwed and fixed to the through hole.

The best mode of the present invention will be explained in detail below with reference to the accompanying drawings. Fig. 1 is a side view of a motorcycle according to the present invention.

A head pipe 23 for turnably journaling a pair of left and right front forks 22 is joined to the front side of a body frame 21 of the motorcycle 20. A front wheel WF is rotatably journaled to lower end portions of the front forks 22 that can be steered by a handlebar 24. On a lower portion of the body frame 21, an engine 26 driven by combustion of an air-fuel mixture of air and fuel sucked through an air cleaner 25 is suspended. The combustion gas of the engine 26 is discharged from a muffler 27 mounted on the vehicle body rear side.

A swing arm 28 for rotatably journaling a rear wheel WR is suspended by a rear cushion 29, and thus is freely swingable with a pivot shaft 30 as the center. The rotational driving force of

the engine 26 is transmitted to the rear wheel WR through a drive chain 31. A fuel tank 32 is mounted on an upper portion of the engine 26, and a seat 33 and a seat cowl 34 are provided in the rear of the fuel tank 32. On a rear end portion of the seat cowl 34, a tail lamp unit 35 in which a tail lamp and rear winker lamps are integrally stored, is mounted.

On the vehicle body front side of the handlebar 24, a front cowl 36 is supported by a cowl stay (not shown) connected to a front face portion of the head pipe 23. The front cowl 36 is provided with a windscreen 37 for straightening a traveling wind, a pair of" left and right front winker lamps 38, and a headlight unit 39 serving as a headlight device. A meter unit M in which a waterproof structure according to the present invention is. applied to a meter panel, is provided on a lateral central portion of the handlebar 24.

Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the upper surface of the meter unit M for a vehicle incorporating the waterproof structure according to the present invention. The meter panel 1 is used while being liquid-tightly fixed to an upper portion of a meter unit case 17 (Fig. 3) for storing instruments such as a speedometer, a rev counter and a fuel gauge.

The meter panel 1 is made of flexible resin material. On the meter panel 1, there are mounted or integrally formed a meter window 2a for the speedometer, a meter window 2b for the rev counter, a meter window 2c for the fuel gauge, and indicators,

such as a winker lamp 3a, a high beam indicator light 3b, and a neutral indicator light 3c. In addition, the meter panel 1 is provided with a trip reset button 9 to reset a trip meter (not shown) provided in the speedometer.

On the exposed surface of the meter panel 1, a plate-like or sheet-like member to be mounted, such as a light guide plate 4 or a decorative plate, is positioned to be fixed at a prescribed position. Also, a design ring 8 integrated with the meter panel 1 is formed on the periphery of the meter window 2a for the speedometer to improve the appearance of the meter panel 1. Furthermore, on the exposed surface of the meter panel 1, resin plugs 5a and 5b for fixing the light guide plate 4 to the exposed surface of the meter panel 1 while preventing positional deviation in the plane direction of the light guide plate 4, are inserted into the meter panel 1 through the light guide plate 4.

In the opaque meter panel 1 made of resin, the transparent meter window 2c is mounted on an opening portion 13 provided above a fuel gauge driving portion 11 and a pointer 10 thereof. The meter window 2c is supported by panel support portions 6 erected at the edge portions of the opening portion 13 on the unexposed surface side of the meter panel 1. The meter panel 1 is liquid-tightly fixed to an upper portion of the meter unit case 17

through a seal member 16, such as an O-ring.

The light guide plate 4 for guiding illumination light to the meter window 2c is mounted on the exposed surface of the meter panel 1. The outer peripheral position of the light guide plate 4 is regulated by a flange 7 formed along the end portion of the exposed surface of the meter panel 1.

The meter panel 1 and the light guide plate 4 are fixed to each other with binding material, adhesive tape, or the like, with sufficient peel strength kept. Furthermore, according to this embodiment, in order to meet demands for design and prevent positional deviation in the plane direction, the resin plug 5 (5b) for fixing the light guide plate 4 to the meter panel 1 is inserted into a bottomed through hole 14 of the meter panel 1 through the light guide plate 4.

In the meter panel 1, the through hole 14 is formed in a recessed shape from the exposed surface side, inside a columnar protrusion 12 protruding on the unexposed surface side, and the resin plug 5a is inserted into the through hole 14 through the light guide plate 4.

As described above, according to this embodiment, the through hole 14 has a bottomed structure, and the exposed surface side and unexposed surface side of the meter panel 1 do not communicate with each other through the through hole 14. Therefore, even when the light guide plate 4 is mounted on the

exposed surface of the meter panel 1 by using the resin plug 5 (5b), waterproofing of the meter panel 1 can be ensured. [0020]
Also, according to this embodiment, since the through hole 14 in the recessed shape from the exposed surface side is formed inside the columnar protrusion 12 protruding on the unexposed surface side of the meter panel 1, the bottomed through hole 14 can be ensured without the need to increase the thickness of the meter panel 1. Furthermore, according to this embodiment, the columnar protrusion 12 and the panel support portion 6 are separately arranged, and' a slit 15 is formed therebetween. Thus, flexibility can be provided to the through hole 14 formed in the columnar protrusion 12, thereby leaving room for an allowable deviation between the diameter of the resin plug 5 (5a, 5b) and the inner diameter of the through hole 14. Moreover, according to this embodiment, the resin plug 5 (5a, 5b) serves as an external thread, and a tap 18 is applied to the inner face of the through hole 14. Thus, the light guide plate 4 is tightly screwed and fixed to the exposed surface of the meter panel 1 with the resin plug 5. [0023]
Also, although the present invention has been explained in terms of the embodiment in which the light guide plate 4 is employed as a member to be mounted by using the plug 5 and is mounted on the surface of the meter panel 1, the invention is not

limited to the above-described embodiment. Any member to be mounted on various auxiliaries composing a vehicle may be employed in place of the light guide plate 4.

wherein: the meter panel is provided with:
an opening portion for mounting a meter window; and a panel support portion erected at an edge portion on the unexposed surface side of the opening portion for supporting the meter window mounted on the opening portion; and

according to any one of Claims 1 to 3,
wherein: the member to be mounted is plate-like; and a flange for positioning the member to be mounted at an

wherein the plug is an external thread, and
